“Beautiful place”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

I stayed at Abbey House hotel for a night when me and my other half was on a trip.
The room was beautiful and spacious, the bed was comfy and very clean, the staff where lovely and very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is beautifully decorated and the lands are stunning, perfect for wedding venues and photographs.
The food was awesome and extremely well cooked the bar was a nice place to sit and chat with a drink.
Breakfast was awesome and a good range of choices for breakfast and a little continental section also to choose from.
Highly recommend, perfect stay.

Room Tip: A suite is the best room to have as you have all round views but all the rooms look pretty stunning.

I did not stay at the Abbey House as it was full with wedding guests. I stayed up the road instead, as recommended by the receptionist. However I did eat and spend much of a beautiful sunny saturday in the hotel as part of a small but very happy wedding party. The building looks much larger from the outside than the reality inside. The design is very modern but perfectly in keeping with the building. The food, drink (fabulous cocktails) and staff were first class. The only negative was the slight lack of space in the bar, people hunting for chairs etc. But I guess thats a sign of success. I thought the place was delightful.

Thanks very much for your kind review.
I hope you will be able to stay with us next time, you're just far enough away from Barrow to feel as though you've been away so you must take advantage of our 'Mini Holiday' package, great for little getaways!
I hope to see you again soon.
Regards
John

We live in the midlands & decided to get married here over 2 yrs ago. We have stayed several times but the most recent was 4 nights for the wedding. It was fantastic, our suite was beautiful for the 1st 2 nights but even better was the honeymoon suite we had this for the other 2. We had 71 guests and have had very good feedback about the hotel. Laura and John were our planners who were lovely and nothing was too much trouble, Laura was there on the day and she did an exceptional job. We are so happy with how our day went. Can't wait to go back for our anniversary.

Room Tip: Winter suite, princess suite are amazing

attended friends wedding this wknd stayed the friday and saturday in the lodge part which is a separate building to the hotel stunning location, room was beautiful tea coffee facilities in the room. iron and ironing board also in room. bed was very comfortable. tv in bathroom aswell as in bedroom ideal if you take ages in the bath. will definately stay again. handy having ground floor room due to being eight months pregnant, and a stones throw to location of wedding. breakfast choices where great too. option to have self service in the rooms but we loved socialising in the breakfast bar. plenty of choices for all dietary requirements. because we where near the road you do notice slight road noise but to be honest it didnt make any difference to our stay or sleep. staff always around to assist with anything overall fantastic stay

May we offer our congratulations on your imminent arrival!
We were very glad to read that you had enough room and were comfortable in the Cavendish Suite, the Lodge in the grounds is an ever popular choice for many of our guests and a nice retreat away from the party!
The refurbishment has seen some great changes to the main house bedrooms with some very well appointed family rooms that you should try with our compliments to celebrate your new arrival!
Kind Regards & Good luck!

Went on a groupon champagne afternoon tea bed and breakfast offer. Disabled room so got one in main building. Lovely room. Couple of issues though which I mentioned to reception so hope they get sorted for next occupant.
Restaurant and bar nicely decorated. Afternoon tea was ok...... had an issue with the gluten free option though even though I had called only last weekend to re clarify....
Bar was quiet in evening but all empty glasses were left on end of bar next to where we were sitting... its the little things I notice that spoil a place.
Breakfast was disappointing. I had the full English... but.... as we dined towards the end of the session got the impression that all had been cooked earlier and kept warm.. apart from the poached eggs which were fine. Lady next to us complained about her eggs benedict for the same reason.
Staff were lovely though and genuinely seemed concerned about any issues.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor in old building and could hear the people in room upstairs walking around... a...

I was sorry to read that you didn't enjoy aspects of your recent stay at Abbey House Hotel & Gardens.
The well-appointed disabled rooms in the main house are indeed a delight, the issues you raised have been rectified for all on-going bookings.
The Hotel and Oscar's restaurant have just come to the end of an exciting refurbishment and were working through some snagging points that have come with the new design, I'm pleased to say the glasses are no longer a problem.
We offer a vast array of breakfast options and I am sorry you were let down on this occasion. Please do come back and join us for a complimentary B&B stay, I'm sure you'll agree that your issues were an out of the norm faux pas, on a normally faultless service.
Kind Regards
John Horton
