we have been on holiday in the lakes for 2 weeks and have now gone out of our way to eat here twice, the first time when we stumbled upon and the second to make a special out of the way journey. The welcome we got here was superb, the staff and service was fantastic and Tom (behind the bar) as well as being a very capable barman was exceptional in his manner and welcoming nature.

My son had left his sunglasses there the previous visit and they were duly looked after for a number of days and handed back safe and sound - thanks Tom

the food was superb, if you are expecting hail and hearty maybe not the place for you, this is top quality food to appreciate, not the cheapest but you are paying for homemade quality not out of a packet .

Only gripe - put some darker ales on please !

Well Done Mason's Arms and to all your staff - a definite must go and visit.

Great food - need to book or get there early. Speaks for itself really. Atmosphere lovely - roaring fires & great service. Ideal place to drink and chat ( if you can get in ).

We have eaten here before... A few years ago and have stayed many times at the sister hotel The Tempest arms. All been good. We booked a table at 7 last Thursday. We turned up, the place was busy. Things didn't start well when we had to wait 5 mins at the bar before being acknowledged. Lots of staff, no managers all running around but actually not getting anywhere. The dining room upstairs was extremely stuffy and hot. The down lighters made it unpleasant so we eventually moved . The place was noticeable by a lack of atmosphere. Service was slow, although the waiting staff were pleasant and apologized . Food was ok... Nothing special. We ate at the nearby punchbowl in crosthwaite the next day and would recommend it.
