“If it was socially acceptable to lick your plate in public I would have done!”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

Had a great meal here while on a trip to the lakes. Its a lovely pub and even though it was a bit busy at the bar (it was a Saturday night) the little area we ate in was quiet and cosy in front of the fire. The food was fantastic - some of the best mussels I've ever tasted in an amazing Thai sauce, wonderful lamb and a perfectly cooked steak. While it took a little while to be served at the bar because it was so busy, the service once we'd ordered was great, fast and very friendly. We wish we'd have eaten here on the first night as we'd definitely had come back and eaten here again. Thoroughly recommend it!!

“A Godsend”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

We hadn't booked anywhere for New Year's Eve and travlelled around many of the hostelries and restaurants with the kids in tow. Thank goodness for the Albert which serves basic but very eatable food. On that evening the floor looked like it needed a good hoover but I guess that is to be expected on one of the busiest nights of the year and bearing in mind the extreme weather conditions.
We were seated in a bar area and in a tight corner that was too dark but I guess we got served and that is the main thing!

“A very good Sunday lunch”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

Having just spent a week in Bowness we ate here twice. We had a very reasonably priced Sunday lunch where the mains cost between 9 and 10 pounds and 3 pounds extra for starters and desserts. The Roast Beef was cooked excellently and was served with a large Yorkshire pudding and plenty of vegetables. The Pork was also cooked very well and served with the same Yorkshire and vegetables. the food was served quickly and the staff were very pleasant. The meal was sufficiently nice for us to visit again later in the week. This time we ate of the menu and the food was still very good with ample portions. Between the five of us everyone was more than happy with the meal.
The prices are reasonable and the quality fine , I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for an unpretentious meal at a reasonable price

“Bad attitutude”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

Visited on Thurs with partner and friends and was served at the bar by an ill mannered lad who clearly has issues with his premature baldness.I asked politely for some ice in the wine and he snatched it off me with a scowl and slammed it back on the bar nearly spilling it.He seemed preoccupied with serving his underage mates, shame really as the young girl behind the bar was most polite and the place was fine
