We were recommended to eat here by a local.Sorry our standards must be a lot higher than his.
The restaurant upstairs rather than the bar at street level was our choice.
Thirty minutes passed before we were given a menu and if it was not the fact that everywhere else we looked was busy,we would have left.
To be fair there was only one waitress serving several tables.
Reinforcements arrived in the form of a "Waiter" who came upstairs, looked around, attended to no one and continued to go up and down stairs doing nothing. After another long wait our food eventually arrived by which time we saw eight people walk out because no one had come near to take their order.
The people at the next table to us were visitors from Canada. They ended up serving themselves with drinks from the bar downstairs as they were fed up waiting to be attended to.
Our food was advertised as beef but there was no resemblance to this.It was of very poor quality and lacked any taste. The trend was the same in most of the restaurants we visited during our stay at the Lakes.Terrible sevice, overpriced food of very poor quality. This place ticked all these boxes and was voted the worst eating experience we had encountered during our holiday.
If you are planning a holiday in this area beware of shoddy service, overpricing and poor standards in most of the restaurants.

“The best pub grub perhaps in the lakes?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2013

From the outside you would think its your typical local, however the food is both plentiful but secondly just amazing. Been on several occasions and cant fault it. The fish and chips for 9.95 is just amazing value given the portion size.

If in Bowness and need some food, then this is your place

“Above expectations”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2013

We ate here in the summer (30th July) as everywhere else we wanted to eat was fully booked. However that's not to say it was quiet here, it was packed. We got one of the last tables upstairs and picked from the 3 course meal option menu. We were told at the bar that there would be a long wait for food but were pleasantly surprised when the starter arrived very quickly. Bit of a longer wait for mains but, given we'd been warned, it wasn't too bad. The food was much better than many standard pubs, there was a nice blend of flavours and textures. Staff were very pleasant considering that they were probably under pressure on a very busy and hot evening. Would definitely eat here again and would recommend it to you. £48 for 3 courses for two people including drinks.

“Friendly, cosy and dog friendly! Can't ask for much more!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2013 via mobile

After a chilli evening wandering round the village and not being able to go into some pubs due to having our Chihuahuas with us, it was lovely to stumble across The Albert Hotel. Welcomed by the staff and shown a comfy and cosy area to sit with the dogs, whilst having a drinks was just what the doctor ordered. The staff even came over with dog biscuits to make sure our dogs felt welcome too. We didn't eat as already had plans but will be sure to visit again to sample the delicious food we saw being served!

“Excellent value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2013 via mobile

We went here because we saw the specials lunchtime menu of baked cod on crushed new potatoes peas and lemon and parsley butter , the food was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection and the pub had a friendly atmosphere , I would definitely recommend this as a place to eat as it was excellent value at only 6.25 per meal
