“Recommended and not disappointed”

Staying in Bowness for a couple of nights - looking for good eating places. Was recommended on here and by our B&B. it was pleasant, food well presented and tasty in surroundings that are effective. Reasonably priced and food tasted well. Would have preferred not to have seen our diet cokes being poured from an already open 2 litre bottle into the glasses whilst waiting in the bar area. ( was flat as well!) However they did turn a specials board starter into a main pasta duh for my wife at her request. Pleasant experience.

“Bellissimo!”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

After spending the afternoon around Keswick & Derwent Water we had worked up an appetite and our 11yr old son wanted nothing more than Spaghetti Bolognese with Garlic Bread. As we were staying in Windermere, we decided to head back and eat a little "closer to home". We rang ahead and Villa Positano were happy to take our booking, even though it would be after 9.30pm when we arrived.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly, did not rush us to order or during the meal and the whole place had a very cosy, authentic Italian atmosphere. As for the food, it was fantastic. Our son commented that it was the best & tastiest Spaghetti Bolognese he'd ever had,

My husband had Pasta with Chicken livers, tomatoes & chilli whilst I had the Stroganoff. Both were excellent - the fillet steak in the Stroganoff was cooked to perfection & melted in the mouth.

I would heartily recommend checking out this little gem, tucked away at the top of a little passage off Ash St, Bowness-on-Windermere. We will certainly be going again.

“excellent italian food”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

On a whim we found ourselves in the lake district 2 days after our wedding anniversary, to busy to celebrate at home, we thought we would take advantage of the lovely bank holiday weather and head off to the lakes, i am so glad we did, my husband is italian and a chef and we had heard a few comments about this place from people we know, we were not dissapointed, the meal was lovely with only one slight criticism, my husband is a coeliac and finds it hard to eat out, we did ask if they did gluten free pasta but they told us there was no call for it,i think if they advertised that they did indeed do gluten free pasta and maybe pizza they would find that more people would come and enjoy the lovely food, there is a demand for this type of food and we noticed that no one actually advertised the fact that they did cater for coeliacs. Maybe they could be the first to do this.

“Wow!”

Excellent, efficient service, fabulous food and friendly staff. What more could you ask for?
The restaurant was very busy but each course was freshly prepared, delicious and was perfectly timed to follow the last.

“- and I'm not a special lover of Italian cuisine!”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

- but our friends are, and always happy to visit somewhere different.

At short notice we managed to reserve a 6.30 pm table, earlier than I would have liked but reassuring that later tables were fully booked.

On a Friday eve the place was buzzing.
Not surprised that the music was a bit loud but from my experience that''s norm for Italian restaurants and it was pleasant atmosphere

Importantly - the food was superb

Starters for three of four of us were grilled scallops - fantastic

To be English and boring in an Amali restaurant I ordered Bestec
ca Del Contadino [sirloin steak with a brandy etc sauce] It really was very good.

I am certain the other Italian choices on our table matched it.

Our meal was complimented with their House wine.

We did indeed order sweets -- Italians enjoy ice cream and so do we

So, hard to find fault -- so what more are we looking for?

It's a busy place but we were not rushed.
The food was excellent and the staff were helpful and friendly and fun

Suppose for most of us importantly, how much did it cost?.

At about £30 pp plus grats -- I think it was vg value

Have to say -- highly recommended and a memorable occasion
