“Great restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

This is a traditional Italian run family restaurant. If you are looking for good food, great service and a buzzing atmosphere this is the place. I have eaten at virtually every restaurant in Bowness and Windermere and this place beats the lot. That's why it is the restaurant of choice for the majority of locals. Ignore the ridiculous negative reviews. If you want city slick then stay in the city. If you want a true taste of Italy get yourselves to the Villa. Fantastic choice of fish and steaks as well as tasty Italian dishes all at the right price. Good wines at good prices. That's why the Villa is open long after everywhere else has closed.

“Brilliant night”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

What a little gem of a place. Angelo and his team were so welcoming when we arrived and from start to finish, the service, food, drink and hospitality was brilliant. When the bill arrived, we were pleasantly surprised as it was such great value for money. We had a lovely table in the corner on the left near the stairs. We told Angelo we were doing an Italian road trip in July and he suggested some small villages to visit which would probably not be in any tourist guides so great to have some inside info! He even recommended some lovely restaurants to visit. What a lovely guy! My hubby would definitely recommend the fillet steak and the pasta is lovely and fresh. Great antipasto too and the tiramisu was heavenly. We had a great night thankyou Angelo and your team!

“Very overrated and stuck in the 70's”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

We booked here about a month ago after reading all the reviews. We walked around bowness on the Monday to find a restaurant but we couldn't find villa positano. We ate at Jacksons bistro the Monday which was excellent and decided to eat there again on Tuesday but after we talked to the hotel reception they said it is up a side street and the food is fantastic so we thought we would give it a go.
We arrived early to have a drink in the bar which was like a watering hole and to stuffy so left for a quick drink at the pub next door.
We went back for our reservation at 8.30 and was took to our table. I order calamari and veal in white wine sauce and Julie ordered the prawns and the steak in a pepper sauce. We also had a bottle of rosé wine.
It was as though out table was booked out for 9.30 because we had eaten both our courses for 9.10. It would be harsh to say that the food wasn't good because it was. With Julie's steak she loved it until she got near the end which was very tough and fatty and had to spit it out.
We don't complain but when you pay top money for places with top reviews you except top food and service. The plates were cold and everything was so dated. It was a classic Italian but stuck in the 70's.
The waitress came up after our meals and asked was everything ok with our meals. We mentioned about the steak but she just looked clueless and never replied.

She asked if we would like deserts but after spending £65.00 for a 45 minute meal we declined and asked for the bill.
I have never done this before but we went back up to Jacksons bistro and apologised for not eating there that night and cheekily asked for the sticky toffee pudding desert. The owner invited us back in even though they had closed and was clearing up and prepared us 2 deserts.
Never have I had to leave one place and return to another for desert but we could kick ourselves for not eating there again.

Overall villa positano is overrated, overpriced and we would certainly not recommend.

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2013

Villa Positano is a hidden gem in the heart of Bowness. we felt lucky to find somewhere just that little bit special for a authentic Italian meal .We were celebrateing my husbands birthday that evening
It you want somewhere just that little bit special for a authentic Italian meal this is the place to choose. Hidden up a narrow alleyway entrance you will be given a very warm welcome from all the staff and with excellent cuisine on offer the night was perfect .
With a welcoming smile and a rich and varied menu to suit all tastes. Steaks cooked to perfection and a varied reasonably priced menu .The staff were very efficient and attentive. There is a range of pizzas, meat dishes and fish coupled with an extensive Special's Board that has appeal for everyone.
Will be going back for a return visit next time in Bowness

“Excellent Italian. Great atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013

Just back from a having a great meal. My wife and I shared a pasta and pizza and both were lovely. The pizza however was especially brilliant. The best part of this place though is the atmosphere if you get a table downstairs. Felt like I was back in Italy.
