Description: Linthwaite House Hotel restaurant overlooking Lake Windermere in the sublime Lake District is a very special place indeed. With views that would have thrilled Wordsworth, Linthwaite House Hotel has chosen luxurious, tasteful interiors to please even the most jaded urbanite and the kitchen, under chef Simon Bolsover, is daring and modern too. Fresh, local ingredients conspire in a signature dish like 60 Degree Herdwick Lamb with braised neck kataifi, cep and kidney risotto. Choose from light lunch menu on the terrace, daily changing table d’hote menu or simpler a la carte in the elegant dining room, with its vast mirror collection, in the evenings, vegetarian menu, or trad Sunday lunch, all accompanied by a blistering global wine list.

Fabulous spot, luxurious dining rooms , sumptuous service, ingredients matched perfectly , flavours very well defined and technically flawless presentation of every course we ordered. On the minus side we think the portions are far too small. We appreciate the style of cuisine ( "modern" British ) is in vogue at the moment but we felt Linthwaite took this cue too literally and if it wasn't for the very generous bread basket, we would have come away feeling distinctly unsatisfied. We also felt the experience represented relatively poor value ( £133 for 2 with only a half bottle of house white, 2 aperitifs and a small port at the end ) , probably as a result of being part of a luxury hotel where prices tend to be a few notches up on equivalent restaurants which don't offer accommodation.

Delightful setting for afternoon tea on a Spring day
Party of four, having visited Linthwaite house several times previously. This time enjoying their afternoon tea.
Lovely fresh sandwiches and delightful scones and lovely varied cakes.
Maybe a stronger balance in savouries would achieve perfection.
The teas were delicious and as always the service impeccable !

Just spent our first one night stay at the hotel and while not cheap it is worth every penny.

Location, food, staff and hotel are all fantastic.

Great stay and a big thank you to all staff

Certainly the chef at Linthwaite is on trend with the latest techniques and flavour combinations, Champagne foam, confit duck, etc etc. The fixed price four course menus is excellent value at just £52 with a lovely restaurant area tastefully decorated in a classically modern style. Prior to dinner drinks are served in their sitting rooms in front of open fires. Well worth the 15 minute walk from Bowness or 5 minute taxi ride. Book ahead though as the hotel guests will have first priority over tables.
