We have been coming to the Lake District frequently since before we were married 30 years ago and stayed in a number of locations but none better than The New Hall Bank. Doug and Ivy are excellent hosts who are very helpful in all aspects of your stay. Ivy is always busy and Doug is most helpful with his knowledge of the area and his friendly banter is great. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well equipped, the breakfast is lovely and you can help yourself to as much cereal, fresh fruit, etc as you like and if that is not enough Doug always asks if you would like more tea and toast. The breakfast room is very nice and has a beautiful view of Lake Windermere. The New Hall Bank is in a quiet area with good parking. The Location is perfect to access shops, restaurants the bay and fantastic pubs the best one being The Hole-int-Wall which is within stumbling distance. We have stayed here about six times in the last couple of years and we cannot wait to return.

The location of New Hall Bank is perfect - close to the lake and all its attractions, yet set back enough to enjoy peace and quiet if you wish to. Doug and Ivy are the perfect hosts - warm and friendly people who are full of helpful tips about places to visit. They also have the balance between being welcoming yet not too intrusive just right.

Our room was perfect and the service was excellent, as was breakfast! We will definitely be back and have recommended New Hall Bank to all our friends and family. Thanks for a lovely, much-needed break.

Thank you for posting your review - we welcome feedback from our guests and have a feedback programe in practice- It is nice to be appreciated for all the hard work we put into our home and endeavouring to make your stay as enjoyable as possible - we have been running our guesthouse for 14 years and still get a buzz when we here we have got it right something that we aim to do always however we are not naive enough to assume we will be able to please all our guests all of the time but we aim to come very close to it!! we look forward to seeing you both back with us in the not too distant future -

We spent five nights at Newhall Bank - our first time in the Lakes!

Being early season and Mon-Fri, we were given a choice of rooms on arrival - the one we had booked or one with a lake view - we opted for our original choice with the four-poster bed.

The room was pleasant and the bathroom good - the shower was better than some 4 star full-blown hotels we've stayed in! The in-room tea and coffee making facility proved very useful when we got back from some of our longer walks and the breakfast room is very pleasant with a really nice view - the breakfasts were good, with lots of choice.

The location is really good - close to the tour boats and to the main town with lots of pubs and restaurants (try the Albion pub for drinks and for meals - its much better inside than it looks to be from the outside).

Newhall Bank is also a good starting point for many walks in the area - ask and Doug will give you details but you can also buy copies of walks in town for less than £2 if you prefer to have your own copy. Its also well placed if you want to jump in the car and drive somewhere else - no need to drive through the town itself (unless you want to).

It about a mile walk along the lake to the car ferry, which is only 50p each way as a foot passenger - its worth a look at the other side of the lake - we did a couple of nice walks there too.

Thank you for your remarks regarding your recent stay with us - we are always greatful and thankful when people take the time to post their review - Many people do not appreciate just how much hard work we put into to ensuring your visit is a pleasureable one and that you may in the future wish to return - although our establishment is the size of many small hotels we are a guesthouse and try to offer all that is required to make your stay comfortable - we hope to see you guys again sometimes in the not too distant future -

This bed and breakfast is highly recommended. You get a wonderful welcome. Location is perfect, rooms are excellent and the breakfast is great. Everything is spotlessly clean and tidy and we will certainly be visiting again.

After the very frosty welcome we were shown to a very small room ,the bath room can only be discribed as a small plastic box , with a toilet that was almost impossible to get to ,cant belive they get away with it .
The room was clean ,but the bed did lack soft pillows ,and a good quilt.
Room serivice could be more frequent, we didnt get clean towels and our stay was 3 days!
On a good note doug was a lovely friendly man and made breakfast a very nice experience ,
the cooked breakfast is ok but if you want anything othere than a full breakfast the lady who cooks can be a bit to busy to change the menu.
The b&b is in a great spot ,but there are lots to choose from dont just jump in,and the price is expensive for what you get or not in our in our case .
Totally spoiled what could have been a lovely holiday.

Let us just clear up a few points - This review insinuates that this guest had a thoroughly miserable stay with us - I have to say that this appeared not to be the case when on several occasions we had cause to exchange words and had a laughed and joke had they not been happy surely they would not have stayed 3 whole nights - it was only on the departure day that you seemed to take offence when it was pointed out that our checkout time was by 10am and that at that very time you were still in the dining room (all be it in conversation with Doug) I asked could I strip your room of linen whilst you finished your conversation and there was no objection on your part- my Laundry is collected at 10.30am and by now it was about 10.10am upon you returning to your room you then asked for clean towels to start showering!! - some establishments charge for late departures to encourage promptness we do not - we take it on mutual understanding that our timings are in place for a reason and that is namely to give me enough time to prepare for incoming guests. Regarding the comments on the servicing of your room over the 3 night stay - On day one, your room was prepared in readiness for your arrival and with extra teas/ coffees milks etc. to cover day two with extras available on request - on bank holidays our bedrooms (on day two only) are left un-serviced (most people prefer not to be disturbed) unless you ask for it to be done when we are happy to oblige (this is stated in the information provided in your room) on day three the room was serviced and tea trays topped up for your use. With regard to the comment on change of towels, this is done in accordance with the guidelines of the tourism industry to lessen the impact upon environmental issues our towels are changed after every 3rd day of your stay - as you stayed just 3 days then a change was not necessary however had you wanted clean towels you could have asked and they would have been given to you or they are changed beforehand at the discretion of my cleaning staff! Our bathrooms may not be the biggest in Cumbria but the meet all the criteria of the Visit Britain inspection team to enable us to maintain our four star status - we have no baths here all en-suites are showers. The en-suites are of the type installed on the P& O Cruise lines I would not say that these were mere “plastic boxes” maybe the reviewer is not aware of this - I have used the en-suites many times myself and I am size 18 (no skinny Minnie) and have no problem using the toilet or shower - again we take environmental issues to heart and showers are more environmentally “friendly” - The cooked breakfast is prepared in the morning by me and if I am not advised in advance that a guest may want something other than full English then that is what is prepared for them, - given advanced notice I am happy to do whatever the guest fancies (within reason) but a little advance notice is appreciated. Pillows = there are six pillows in your room which I would have thought at least one was to your taste if not then had you asked I would have tried to find somthing more suitable!
Our tariff is in line with our competitors and we are far cheaper than many others offering a lot less.
I also note that no time was wasted in writing this review - checked out on 31st joined trip advisor on the 1st and posted the review on the 1st it was certainly a mission to get this out there - what a pity the reviewer fails to mention their very early arrival on arrival day (check in is from 2pm not 11.30am) and the fact that an upgrade was given free of charge to a room with four poster bed and lake views !
