We had a lovely stay here in January. Although the weather was not the best the warmth from inside the guest was more then we needed. What a great location wih lovely views of the lake, The room had everything we needed with a four poster bed which was the most comfortable we had ever slept in, We would recommend to anyone. Will definately be back!

If you want a B&B smack in the centre of Bowness, that is clean, friendly, well ran, with surperb hosts, then this is the place for you.
Doug and Ivy are a lovely couple, that will help you enjoy your stay in The Lakes. Wether that be from being served a great full English or with help choosing a restaurant for the evening. Help is always at hand.
Beautifully kept rooms, many with a lake view are all you could ask for, from this reasonably priced B&B.

This was our first visist to The Lakes and I'm sure there will be many more to follow. And we'll be staying with Doug and Ivy as long as they can fit us in.

New Hall Bank is a stones throw from the lake side and is close to the centre of Bowness and all it's amenities. A beautiful georgian property tastefully converted into a warm and welcoming Guest House, all rooms are clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished and the view of the lake from our room was second to none. Adding to this Ivy and Doug served you with a breakfast that would see you through to your evening dinner. There was so much choice from cereals to fresh fruits and yoghurts followed by a Full English breakfast all made from local produce. This was our first stay at New Hall Bank and we can safely say it will not be our last.

Just come back from a short weekend break with Doug and Ivy. A really nice break. The accomodation is really well placed. Within walking distance of all facilities. Only thing to stop it getting top marks is the size of the toilet/shower room but to have a decent sized bedroom this has to be done. Doug and Ivy are both genial hosts and provide a cracking breakfast. Bowness itself is a perfect location with nice walks, good places to eat (recommend Fat Olives) and good places to drink (Hole in t' Wall (20 yards away) and the Stags Head (2 mins). I suppose the biggest compliment you can give is - would I go back and would I recommend to a friend? The answer to both is a definate - Yes!

A big thank you to Ivy & Dough. We really had a fantastic time. Our room was so romantic, loved the lake view. The whole house was just so cozy, the breakfast room was ever so peaceful with the lake view. Very friendly people. We would love to go back.
Oh, and thank you for your co-operation with our late arrival. ;-)
Thanks again so much.

We had the unfortunate experience of staying here a few weeks ago. I say ' stay ' here but we found the way we were treated so inexcusable that we left within about 3 hours of checking in..!
Just after checking we, quite innocently, decided to check out where the dining room was where we would be having breakfast the following morning. On finding the room we were then met by the proprietor (Mrs Wilson) who then rather abruptly told us this area was 'out of bounds' to the 'guests' during the day.
With our tail very much between our legs a short time later we were perusing some tourist information leaflets of which were situated just near the reception area. A little girl (which we discovered later was the proprietors granddaughter) then emerged from a door marked 'Private' and casually chatted to us. Mrs Wilson then appeared, and I quote, said; " You're nosey aren't you..."
Finding the atmosphere and unwelcoming tones displayed by Mrs Wilson unbearable, we decided we didn't want to continue our holiday here and decided to leave.
As a gesture I decided to leave a payment of half a nights stay with the keys at reception (having already paid a £50 deposit).
A rather disgruntled Mr Wilson then accosted us in the car park and threatened us with the POLICE unless we paid the FULL amount of the WHOLE stay!
Whilst I appreciate that the terms and conditions on the website state that payment in full is required for cancellations/no shows, surely there is a duty by the owners to be courteous, welcoming and hospitable to guests, thus not causing them to want to leave within 3 hours of arriving.
In fact surely they could be in breach of their own contractual statement on their site which asks the reader to ‘give them the opportunity to make you very welcome in our home & extend warm hospitality to you’.
On my son-in-law telephoning the establishment , Mrs Wilson referred to us as " Oh, the couple who were POKING AROUND...? "
At this point my wife was becoming upset with the whole situation and have it had not been for a nearby, much friendlier and hospitable guest house which we managed to get checked into, our much anticipated holiday would of been in effect, ruined.
We have since received a letter from New Hall Bank in which they are still more or less accusing us of entering ' private' areas of the 'guest' house, and still with no hint of an apology for the way we were treated.
As a reader of this review I ask you to draw your own conclusions from this, however, I would certainly not recommend this establishment to stay in. There are plenty of other guesthouses/hotels in Bowness that I know of who are much more welcoming and would treat you, as a paying customer, far better.

Well a lengthy review deserves a lengthly reply-Yes it was an unfortunate experience for all (us included) - never have we had anyone ignore the notices clearly displayed regarding accsess times to certain areas (namely the dining room) which by the way also leads directly onto other private areas of our home and therefore it is necassary to have these limited times displayed so that we are on hand at times when the guests are using this area (we cannot allow guests just wander freely in our private quarters) it is also a question of security, After you found your way into the dining room passed the door displaying the dining room open times and which is also next to my kitchen where I was in private conversation with my daughter it was then pointed out to you that the dining room was closed untill breakfast the following day. with no hint of apology forthcoming from you for not having seen the dining room opening times notice just a reply of "oh we just like to look " the way this review is written it sounds as though you had been told to Get out of the dining room- this was definatly not the case - as we had seemingly got off on the wrong foot the next unfortuate incident was when (as you tell it) you were chatting to a small child who had come from the door marked PRIVATE in the main hallway by the information leaflets - this may or may not have been the case and is not in dispute but no explaiation came forth as to why you were standing holding the door open to our private bedroom quarters - upon my approach and shocked response by stating "you like poking about dont you" you made a move back toward the leaflet stand -
As for us demanding full payment upon your decision to cut short your 4 night booking this I strongly dispute and deny this was most certainly never the case - as per our cancellation terms state, full payment could have been asked for by us but this we would never demand - you were asked and agreed to pay for one nights accommodation as you had availd yourselves of some of the bedroom facilities - however after your speaking to a 3rd party for advise your departure was marred by way of not personally handing back the keys or making the agreed full nights payment - instead you left the keys with a portion of the payment for us to discover later, unfortunately for you you were spotted getting into your car and attempting to drive off -this was when you were asked to settle the agreed full amount of ONE nights room rate - In the 14 years we have been happily running our gusthouse we have never come across anyone who has taken such umbrage at it being pointed out that certain areas of our home have to be off limits at certain times! For anyone reading this response may I point out that the review posted befor this on and titled "Make your own opinion" is written by this reviewers son in law -
