“Friday 13th? What a gem!”
Reviewed July 17, 2012

I was late booking, last minute as usual, but Ivy couldn't have been more helpfull. A great welcome, despite arriving over a hour later than I stated. An excellent room number 3, even had extra beds!!

Good food, good service and always a cheery welcome. Even remembering my extra toast to round off the excellent breakfast.

Overall, a brilliant place to stay. I'll definately visit again - hopefully soon.

Thanks for ensuring my break was 'a gud un'.

We recently had the pleasure to stay at New Hall Bank and could not recommend it enough. New Hall Bank is a lovely building in a great location and run by the very friendly Doug & Ivy.
The room we had was large and well decorated with large TV and plenty of tea and coffee.
We did not have an ensuite room or much of a lake view but Ivy had contacted us to let us know that beforhand so it was not an issue and we did have our own toilet and bathroom which were convenient and clean. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice and Doug was there being a very genial host. If we go back to the lakes New Hall Bank will be the first place we check to look for a room. Many thanks.

We have stayed a number of times in Windermere over the years in different B & bs. I have to say Doug and Ivy are very friendly people, we had booked on the internet only a couple of hours prior to us arriving. We did arrive early then we had said. Doug and Ivy had nipped to Kendal but spoke to us on the telephone telling us that they would be back in a little while. We didn't mind this as we could leave the car on their car park and have a stroll to the lake. When we arrived back to the New Hall Bank, Doug and Ivy meet us, they were both very friendly and helpful, showing us to our room, and chatting to us as if we were old friends.
The room was lovely clean, tidy and had a great view of the lake. Breakfast was great a lovely selection of fruit, cereal and then a full english lovely.
Doug and Ivy were always delightful and helpful, I had left my phone charger at home, Ivy was more than happy to let me use her phone charger on a couple of ocassions.
We will go to Windermere again I am sure, but we will stay no were else now other than the New Hall Bank. Its brillianlty situated for pubs, restuarants and shops. Doug has a wealth of information he is willing to share about the area, and any interests that you may have.
See you soon Doug and Ivy hopefully September, but we willl let you know. Thanks again Allison and Paul from Ince Wigan.

We stayed here in June for the 4th time. We come once a year to do the sponsored Row for St Gemma's Hospice.

It's a lovely B & B with an excellent breakfast served every morning. We stay here because the hosts are exremely friendly and the location is excellent for the nearby pubs and eating places.

We have stayed in quite a few B & B's in Bowness, but overall this one is hard to beat.

Room Tip: Room 10 is very nice.

I have never written a review on here before but felt the need to in this case.

We stayed at this guest house for two nights as we were attending a wedding nearby.
As the wedding was at 1pm we requested an early check in to enable us to get changed and freshen up after a 3 hour journey. This was agreed prior to our arrival, however when we arrived we were told by the hostess to go and have a coffee 'somewhere' and return at 1pm as the room wasn't ready. She appeared quite irritated and flustered by our arrival as had obviously forgotten about the arrangement. When we mentioned that we were going to the wedding she invited us in and after asking her if we had called at an inconvenient time, she replied 'well that's why we have a 2pm check in!' Not the answer we wanted to hear or expected from a hostess. After a bit of tutting and huffing and puffing, she showed us to our room which was ready for us after all. I must say the room had a lovely view of the lake but the bathroom wasn't large enough to 'swing a cat' and was probably more suited to an oompa loompa or munchkin. It reminded me of a bathroom that you would have in a caravan or motorhome (no exaggeration). Also there was a sign saying they do not normally clean the rooms on a Saturday to allow us to relax but would do if we requested them to. I have never heard of this before and after the frosty reception thought it was more like THEY wanted a rest on a Saturday. We did not find the hostess approachable to ask for fresh towels etc. Furthermore, there was another sign advising us that if we required further sachets of tea, coffee and milk, we would be charged!!! When we were paying £98 per night, I would have thought they would have provided this at no additional cost. On our departure, we rang the bell for assistance to settle the bill as there was no one around and true to form the hostess appeared again huffing and puffing. Strange, I thought, as we were there to give her money!! Having said all that, the host was friendly and pleasant and almost made up for the lack of customer service skills that the hostess portrayed.

Thank you for your comments - we expected a review of such content after your much earlier than agreed time of arrival on the day of your visit , this obviously put us on a wrong footing to start with and once that happens then every little thing that can be used as a negative is collated by the guest to then later post as a review on such sites - may I state that even though your arrival was much earlier than agreed in fact not much after the last guest had just checked out and yes it had slipped my mind for a moment as your booking was made several weeks in advance, hench the suggestion that you may like to go for a coffee until we were ready for arrivals but once you had jogged my memory we were happy to check in and allow you to get your selves ready for your wedding event at the Old England hotel who by the way charge far more per night than we do hence most people attending weddings etc. there look for more reasonable accomadation rates close by - by the way our tariff is within line with other guesthouses in this area hotels may charge a lot more we also do not charge extra for replenishing you complimentart tea tray regardless of what youmay think you hve read somewhere and if you had asked for your room to be serviced on Saturday it would have been done no question but then you where still in bed until well after lunch time as I remember and servicing is usually done in the mornings but then we do give you the choice to ask - throughout your stay you where treated with respect and in a curtious manner by the hostess and the hostess is not in the habit of tutting and huffing or puffing - as for the en-suite in your room and the referance to caravan or motorhomes have you seen the en-suites in those these days? thay are very stylish and functional - most of our guests are of a normal size and find that the en-suite in the room that you occupied just fine however anyone who is on the large size may find it small if you had let us know in advance and we could then have given a room with larger bathroom - we are not sure what an oompa loompa or munchkin looks like so we cannot comment as to wether the en-suite in the room that you occupied would be suitable for them, perhaps they are something native to Walsall we may never know -

I don't generally take the time to complete a review however this trip absolutely demanded one. This hotel is set in an amazing location with stunning views of the lake and a fabulous base. Doug was a legend and you couldn't ask for a warmer or friendlier welcome and host during your stay. We are regular visitors to Bowness, but this was our first stay at New Hall Bank - we will undoubtedly stay here going forward. Cheers. Paul & Debbie

Excellent Hotel in a fantastic location, with amazing views over the lake from some of the bedrooms and the breakfast room, the hotel is very very clean and and the hosts are lovely friendly people, Doug give us plenty of information every morning to help us get around the area so we could cram plenty in and see all the local beauty spots, while ivy made us our lovely full english breakfast..The hotel is a 2 min walk from the local resturants pubs/bars but tucked away in a quiet spot so ticks all the boxes for location.. We will be back to stay again, bowness is a beautifull town in a beautifull part of the country and the New Hall Bank Hotel is the perfect place to stay... Angie + Ian from doncaster

Room Tip: Ring Doug and ivy at the hotel direct for a great price and to see if a room over looking lake is av...
