“Breakfast as amazing as the views”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

Fantastic stay, Maxine and Graham are the warmest and most welcoming hosts. Barely watched the tv in the room because the views were so amazing. Breakfast made from local produce was a nice touch, and Maxine even packed me a slice of delicious home made cake for the long journey home! Will definitely be back.

Some surprises end up being truly pleasant ones. We ended up here by chance as our room booking was not honoured by the booking website and we were offered the Bay House as a replacement.

The location is fantastic ... minutes walk from the Macdonald Old England Hotel and Spa and right across the Royal Yatch Club. The Pier is easily accessible and so is the town centre for restaurants and shops. Yet the streets is serene and peaceful.

Our room window had a beautiful view of the lake. The room was cosy for two, quite comfortable. All the expected amenities were included. Breakfast was great. The owners, who we understand have recently taken over, looked after us well thank you Graham and Maxine.

There are no rooms at the ground level so it may not be ideal for those who struggle with (normally very manageable) stairs.

I would definitely go back to Bay House and recommend it to those looking for a comfortable, well-located, value for money lodging in this stunning part of the UK.

New owners Maxine & Graham had only been in one week when we arrived. The extensive breakfast catered for all tastes and was excellent, home made cake in the rooms daily which we have never experienced before (thanks Graham), beds were comfortable and we slept very well. The whole place is clean and comfortable but unfortunately the previous owners had let it run down. Maxine & Graham have plans for extensive renovation/modernization and the determination to provide an attractive, warm, friendly and comfortable place to stay and the hope that many will return. Ignore the old and give the new a chance ... you won't be disappointed. We would have no qualms about returning as we know we would receive a warm welcome, fabulous food and a good nights' sleep! Will be interesting in 6 months time to see how they WILL have turned this B & B around. Good luck to you both.

Some of the previous reviews did worry me however when I arrived to find the new owners Maxine & Graham all my fears went away.
The owners make this place. They are so welcoming and keen to make your stay the best it can be. Breakfast was varied and used local produce and there was homemade cake in the room, what a nice touch. The rooms were spotless and the location is really perfect.
I understand that they had only moved in three days before my check in and had spent it cleaning the whole house (which is over 4 floors!!!). They have grand plans and im sure that they will be THE place to stay so book early people!

Having read the previous reviews since booking I did approach this with a little trepidation. First thing to say is that there are new owners in who are keen to turn this place around.

Plus side: didn't smell of smoke at all. The room was clean and pleasantly furnished with nice touches such as some home made cake. Breakfast tasty and owners keen to oblige. Good location close to centre amenities.

Minus side: The place in general is a little tired and clearly needs some work which I hope is high on the agenda. Was a little chilly in the evening with no heating but this seems to have been rectified in morning.

Has potential and would urge the owners to fix the basics including the odd front door lock!
