“Unbelievable.”

I really thought that the value website we booked this hotel through was worthy of respect until we saw what you lads said on this site. Still, we thought we would give it a bash...you were all right!

We have never stayed in such an awful place in all our travels.

The room was awful - the smell of smoke, the beds were not changed, the shower was more like an elf pissing through a hole than a shower, the staff were more like day release than staff, the alleged 'real ale' was more like the remnants of a CAMRA night out and to top it off we had the joy of a drunken women (to call her a lady would be a crime) on Sunday night challenging other guests to a game of pool as, in her inimitable style, she was "fg great". We heard her all night and believe me, she was simply a peasant.

The rooms are awful, the food fatty, the staff simple and the price ridiculous. DO NOT VISIT unless you are a stag or hen do.

Other than that....great!

Room Tip: Do not eat here. There are great restaurants around...in fact, stay in these places!

Upon our arrival and spending a fortune in car park fees as the hotel doesn't have a car park and managing to get through the cloud of smoke from the staff all standing outside smoking (and a lad scraching his ging gang goolies) we went in to the hotel to find a free standing till and no reception area, my wife then went in to the crowded bar to check in, at this point she was advised there is a live band on till 11pm then the night club in the basement will be open till 3am (having a 2 and 4 year old i couldn't see us partying on through the night)
The room itself (up 2 flights of stairs and no lift so a problem with a buggy, and next to a small room used to keep tools and paint with no door on it) had a very snazzy new bathroom but the main room had a leaning wardrobe that looked like it was bought from a carboot sale and as for a room with a view... well the building work at the back of the next hotel was far from the lake view we expected. within hour 1st hour we had the surround sound of people making love and a good argument in the pub toilets that are situated below room 16 the family room, my mrs booked this and we thought we had a bargain reduced from £160 to only £80. with breakfast i'd be pushed to pay £40. This hotel would be perfect in ibiza or Kavos, definatly not the lake district, its more like a stag and hen resort. Breakfast was average but sharing the room with so many hungover people swearing about there night around my children did not inpress me, This is not a hotel, this is a pub with a late licence and a nightclub that isn't mentioned in the description

Room Tip: There isnt a swimming pool or fitness center, thats a seperate hotel that the staff don't mentio...

Stayed here with my young family and as it isnt stated on booking.com it turns into a nightclub at night whichs finishs at 3am so it was very noisey and kept the children up all night also it didnt help that the people above us were arguing. No car parking either and no lift so we had to carry the pram up and down 2 flights of stairs. It isnt worth the 80 pounds we paid.

I stayed here on Saturday 02/02/13 with 10 mates and i have to say i found this hotel to be excellent value in an excellent location. Of the 11 of us who stayed here not one person had a bad word to say about this place. The rooms were spotless and the staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome, the food was first class and they had a great variety of beers to choose from, an added bonus was the discount card we received on arrival which allowed us 10% off all food and drink until midnight which i have to admit we really took advantage of, the card also allows you free entry into the nightclub downstairs. The entertainment provided in the lounge was a singer/guitarist which made our saturday night, he performed a variety of songs and catered for all age groups, he was excellent. Also i have to say all the locals we came across were friendly and welcoming to us. On the Sunday morning we were treated to a hearty home cooked breakfast which is just what we needed to help with our hangovers. I will definitely be coming back here again, i had a first class weekend with some excellent company. Thanks again to all the staff at the Stags Head Hotel.

A group of 11 we stayed here on 2nd feb celebrating our mates 40th. From the moment we checked in to the time we checked out we were made to feel very welcome-the service was excellent and very friendly. We booked 6 rooms-17 and 18 were the only two I went in and they were ideal, spotlessly clean with what looked like recently upgraded ensuites. Onto the important bits-this place was just what we were looking for-excellent beers , great food and even better entertainment-superb singer/guitarist. An added bonus is the 10% discount on all drinks for residents which we took advantage of on a few occasions between 1:30 and midnight when we then went down to the nightclub (free entry for residents). All in all I would say this was a first class destination and does exactly what it says on the tin-if you want a quiet break with kids don't come here but if you want a friendly welcome, lively atmosphere, great entertainment, great beer and home cooked breakfast to cure the hangover then this is the place to come. Definitely recommend and we will be back. Thanks guys for making our weekend

Room Tip: I only went in 17 and 18 but they were spotless with new showers

We stayed in the Stags Head Hotel for a friends 40th and were made very welcome by the staff who were all friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and the bed was comfy for the one night spent in it. I must point out if you are looking for somewhere that is quiet this is probably not the place there is a night club underneath the hotel and some of the rooms above can here the music, but if you like to have a dance then it is ideal. The hotel is situated yards away from the main shopping area of Bowness and is less than 100 meters away from Lake Windermere. The hotel provides food and i would recommend the Beef Baguette. We all had a ball and have the pictures to prove it.

Room Tip: Room 24 is were i stayed, No noise very quiet and has a new shower unit.

Not a great experience in the Stag's Head unfortunately. Made to pay upfront on arrival (which in hindsight, I should not have agreed to). Parking is in a public car park a few minutes walk away (£13 for 24 hrs) and contrary to other reviews, no one offered us a free pass for this. To get into the hotel you must pass multiple staff smoking at the entrance, which isn't the nicest way to enter a hotel with small children. You have to check in at the crowded, noisy bar. The man who checked us in did carry my suitcase up the room, which was kind. But the decor is dreadful, old, smelly and in urgent need of improvement. The carpets are worn. The nightclub in the basement has noisy revellers departing into the small hours. The whole hotel is very noisy at night (room 16 has the pleasure of being above the toilets where all sorts of bodily functions can be heard into the small hours...). Staff put the tumble dryer on at midnight, and again at 4am - Who would do this ??? Our door had a 1 inch gap below it which shed unwanted light into the room for most of the night. Arguments, singing, all can be heard at unsociable times. There are several doors to storage rooms (one housing a selection of tools etc, which was open the entire time we stayed there.). There is no security stopping anyone from the club / pub from wandering upstairs to where the rooms (and indeed tools), are !
On the plus side, the bedlinen appeared to be clean, and our bathroom was nice (but small). Breakfast was okay, but eating breakfast at 8am in the shabby pub would not be my first choice. I cannot imagine who would rate this 'hotel' as excellent. It is without question a pub with rooms. It should be the choice for a stag / hen / boozy weekend but definitely not for anyone who a) wants a good nights sleep, b) has children, or c) is interested in cleanliness.

Nobody asked if we enjoyed our stay, there seemed no interest in customer service, no attention to detail, no pride, no service whatsoever.
