Being a biker you look for somewhere that is secure for your bike, and also good value for money

My bike was put behind the gate out of sight, for security reasons, even though the main car park is massive for a Windermere Guest House - an extra bonus for sure, which of course you have to pay extra for as you dont get these facilities with cheaper places do you !

Due to the immense heat that night i even had a fan in my room which was excellent

The hotel is very well presented, and extremely comfortable, and i was made to feel very welcome indeed

The breakfasts menu the following morning was HUGE......which is also top notch

Overall you will never be disappointed here, and the hosts are the friendliest people you could wish to meet

Biker or not - stay here OK

My husband rang and booked this for a one night stay as a surprise for my 40th birthday.

Upon arrival we were lucky to get the last parking bay and checked in at reception. The lady who greeted us was friendly and helpful and explained about breakfast times etc and where our room was located.

My husband was told when he booked it was the Executive Suite and at £140 for one night we expected something a bit special, especially as we have stayed as smaller guest houses and self catering lodges in the area before. Our room was only slightly larger than average with the main extra space being in the bathroom which had a separate bath and shower. The usual mod cons were provided ie hairdryer, iron, tea, coffee, tv etc however there were a few cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, a socket was loose when I attempted to recharge my mobile phone from it and there were a couple of bulbs off. The paintwork around the door was chipped and tired looking also. Really disappointing for what we were expecting to be an executive room on such a special occasion and definitely not worth what we had paid.

Later in the evening we asked the girl on the reception desk if she could recommend anywhere nice to eat in the local area. She looked blankly and said she couldn't and didn't understand (possibly Polish?). We were lucky however to find a lovely bistro in Bowness and enjoyed a delicious birthday meal which made up for the earlier disappointment.

Breakfast was nice, and served without too much of a wait which was good.

Overall, while we expect to pay extra for Lake District stays we felt £140 for one night in this suite was too much as the room was nothing special and hotel not 5 star as claimed. After reading reviews we were expecting more.

We feel there are a lot more hotels/guest houses in the area which offer similar or better accommodation for a lot less.

Booked through Booking .com
The web page gives an impression of a boutique style hotel with flattering photos, In fact the guest house is shabby rather dusty & as other guests would testify is run by the staff who are very pleasant but can only do so much, We didn't see the owners during our stay. we booked a family room which had a -put you up style bed which was very uncomfortable, the bathroom was large but had a ridiculously small shower cubicle The restraunt is very tatty, the cooked breakfast was ok but the other options very limited, the bar was deserted all day & evening but could be manned if you rang the buzzer in reception but was closed by 10.30 as was Woodlands Guest House

We decided to spend 4 days in the Lake District, in windermere, a destination we have been to before some 5 years ago, looking for accommodation we chose the Woodlands, the location was exactly what we wanted, less that 1/4 of a mile from Windermere and about a 1 mile from Bowness and we are very glad we did, our room was modern and clean, with a nice bathroom with shower, the breakfast choice and quality was also excellent, with the cooked breakfast being served on hot plates, something very simple but unusual these days, there was a small bar, which experience now tells me was well stocked! But special mention has to go to the staff, who were at all times welcoming, helpful, courteous, and all this with a genuine smile, there were a couple of these which for us outstanding Ana & Kate, but it must be said those we didn't see must have done a good job as well, the owners of the Woodlands surely must be both pleased and confident in their staff, well done!!
We can whole heartedly recommend the Woodlands

This was mine and my partners first weekend away together and we have booked back there every year since. This is lovely boutique hotel where they can not do enough for you. You have to remember this is a b&b and not a hotel so the rooms will not be massive but you should not expect this. Every time we have gone the staff and friendly and knowledgable about the area. We have been upgraded twice on arrival due to spare rooms with no extra charge and we have also been greeted with homemade scones and cream. The breakfasts are lovely and the rooms clean. This is a perfect base to explore the surrounding area. Will be booking again this year.

Booked this as a 60th birthday treat, I was very disappointed in the shabby look as we entered the hotel, we were given room 10, room of poor standard tired and uninspiring certainly not what I expected looking at their web site,in fact I have difficulty reconising it as the same hotel. The en suite was tiny and cramped not very nice. Can not believe it has 5 stars. I did notice some of the other rooms looked much better such a shame, as I had requested on booking, a nice room as it was a special occasion.
Staff very good also breakfast.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back quieter.
