Woodlands Windermere
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 30, 2012

We (my wife and 2 children) stayed over the Christmas break as a treat! This is the third time we have stayed at the woodlands purely because, we cant match this hotel anywhere in Windermere. Value for money is excellent as too are the rooms and breakfasts! The staff are so helpful and the owners Alan's and Sarah genuinely care about your stay.

There is a cosy lounge with a bar, perfect for winter nights and a glass of red! Its really modern with hits of tradition with an open fire and Chesterfeilds. The decor can not be faulted and we even got to seek a peek at one of the rooms renovated earlier this year ( we stayed in it pre renovation and was still agreat room!).

There is so much to do in the area with cafes, boat trips and 'The Potter' experiences. There is even a salon in Bowness to take a few hours to be pampered.... Truly perfect!

The care and pride shown by staff and owners is clear to see and there is nothing that I can say other than great things for this hotel... Other than thank you for a truly fantastic time!

Had a couple of nights at this lovely guest house. We were the only guests there & were very spoiled as they let us pick any room we wanted. We chose room 6 which has a super king size bed & large bathroom. The only problem was the shower was very small, but the water was lovely & hot |& good pressure.Very nicely decorated. Very very clean
Alice, the receptionist & Alan, the owner, looked after us very well, lovely cooked breakfast & as we were on the Travel Zoo package we had mulled wine High tea ect.
Walked into Bowness a couple of times,15 mins. 10 mins walk to Windermere so very well placed.
Will definately go back.

Room Tip: Room 6 was great, also the garden room around the back looked lovely

We stayed at the Woodlands for two nights at the weekend. The hotel has a little car park and if your room is situated at the front of the hotel. Lovely hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were comfortable and well decorated with mini en suites. The hotel provides you with a key so that you can let yourself in at night. Great choice provided at breakfast, both hot and cold with as many rounds of toast, tea and coffee as wanted. Fruit and yoghurts were also provided. The hotel is just a short walk downhill to the lake. We would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for the room in the loft area, you then are above most guests, you have a big room and will hear...

Great location, rooms average. Wifi excellent. Lounge area closes promptly at 11pm (we were told in no uncertain terms which we found slightly irritating having just bought a drink. Huge hint made that we should be taking to our room). Breakfast tasty but menu quite limited (beans on toast an option?!).
Sadly I concur that there are other, possibly better B and Bs nearby for the same price.

We recently stayed at the Woodlands and we could not have asked for more. The staff were brilliant and attentive, nothing was too much trouble.
The room was of a good standard and with the window slightly open at night we could hear the gentle burbling of the stream.
Breakfast was really good with plenty of choice. The afternoon tea was delicious and was included in the price.
Use of the fitness and spa centre at The Old England Hotel nearby is complimentary.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Windemere.

Room Tip: Room 1 on the ground floor is spacious with a bay window and a good en suite

This guest house has a 5 star AA rating and this being true ( I checked with the AA) then the standards in this country have, like most things, gone rapidly downhill. I booked as a special treat for my husband's birthday through the Travelzoo offer. and was told that as I had booked so far in advance of our visit that a free upgrade "should not be a problem".
On arrival we were shown to our room (No 2) which though pleasant enough was nothing special, having only what you would expect from any average Guest House at half the cost. The en-suite was very small with a cloakroom sized basin with a hot tap that was very loose, and towel rail which was coming away from the wall one side. These were repaired very quickly. Also no shaver point. The sound insulation was very poor and we could clearly hear voices in the room next door and from the room below. On our first night we were awakened by a baby crying in the room below (website states that "we cannot cater for children under 5 "). We had to ask for our bottle of wine and vouchers for restaurants advertised in the offer and were told that the vouchers were only for restaurants in Ambleside. When we enquired about upgrade we were asked what the problem with our room was as David Cameron had stayed in it. Was that relevant?. On our 2nd morning we were told we would be moved to a superior room only soon after to be told it could not be done after all. The afternoon tea was nice and the breakfast was well presented but not a huge choice. Is all this really 5 star service and accommodation?
