“Very noisy at night”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2009

Arrived for one night. Easy to find and parking whilst difficult was OK. Nice picture book website but found tht inside in parts the decoration was a bit tired. It is a bit of a rabbit warren inside and the accomodation stretches into adjoining buildings and this was our problem.

Our room (number 16) was almost over a local bar that because of the fine weather was a haven for all types of rowdy behaviour. As the night went on, more and more noise, breaking glass, cheers and smoking that drifted into our room. We had to switch rooms to avoind this noise. THe room was very clean and tidy but very small. THe bathrom was tiny and if you are over 6ft, you willnever be able to sit on the toilet as your kneews would be jammed into the radiator.

Breakfast was good but again cramped. Again guests have to leave by 10.00am. Where is the customer focus? This B&B has all the attributes of being a good cosy place but the good old English sod the customer attitude and take the money rule survives alive and well.

Thanks for your review and we are very sorry that you were disturbed during the night. We are located in the centre of Bowness, surrounded by Shops, Restaurants and some Bars. There is a limit to what we can do about the noise created by a few idiots late at night but we will monitor it and speak to the local authorities. We are glad that our night manager was able to move you to an alternative room. Regarding the checkout time - we need to have the time to fully service all the rooms ready for the incomming guests at 2 pm. We can hold luggage and many guests will stay later and leave their cars even later still - as long as we are aware that is fine. Apologies if you feel that you were not looked after, but we can assure you that we are very concerned about customer service and do our best - it seems we did not get it right this time.

My partner and I stayed at Laurel Cottage for two nights for out two year anniversary after having read some very good (and a few bad) reviews but I can without a doubt say that it was the lovliest place we could've stayed.

We were greeted with a warm welcome and were allowed to leave our bags in the cottage as we had arrived much earlier than our check-in time. The cottage is in the perfect loactaion too, close to everything you'd want in Bowness!

We were very pleased with our room, it was tidy and clean and had a big window with lots of light pouring through. It may have been a tidge on the small side, but it is a cottage afterall and makes it seem all the more cosy!

Breakfast was delicious, we had it served to our room and on the second night we requested some more tea bags and then the next morning they sent up more tea bags but also a big pot of piping hot tea, lovely!

We were sad to leave, but no doubt will be returning again. Thanks to all the cheery and helpful staff there

Stayed at this b&b for one night with my boyf, it's right in the centre of Bowness and is only a minutes walk from some great restaurants and also the front. Lady that runs the place was lovely, very welcoming, Room we stayed in was very clean, pleasant and had lovely fluffy towels! There is limited parking on site but they have another car park across the road which was great.

Please, please, please ignore any bad reviews about Laurel Cottage. We stayed for 4 nights and had a brilliant time. The owners, John and Syma could not have been more accomodating. When you stay in the Lakes, you get what you pa for. A cosy quaint B and B. If you want flash, modern and a buffet breakfast, go and stay in the flash hotels by the lake. Laurel cottage is in the middle of the village, a 2 minute walk to the bus stop, Costa Coffee and Tesco Express open from 6am - 11pm. It was clean, comfortable and easy going. You can get free leisure passes to the local leisure centre at the Burnside Hotel. Its a five minute walk and you can swim, use the jacuzzi, steam room, bar, snooker table etc. We will definately book again to stay here.

This cottage guest house looks delightful from the outside and is in a great location in Bowness. Unfortunately, once inside, the reality was rather different. The welcome was lukewarm at best, bordering on the frosty and the rooms were small and basic in their functionality with untidy workmanship in the bathrooms and mouldy walls. Breakfast has to be taken in a 45 minute window between 8.30 and 9.15 and then everybody comes at once so the service is slow. Then you have to leave by 10.00am so you need to be quick after breakfast to make this deadline.

There is a minimum stay of two nights, so even though we only stayed one night, we had to pay for two and even if we had only paid for one night, it would have been expensive for what it was. We really got the impression that commercial gain mattered more to the couple running this B&B than their customers. They justed wanted to get people in, take the money and then see them on their way as soon as possible. I wouldn't recommend it.

We stayed for 2 nights in the cottage room which was cosy and comfortable. The breakfast was great. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. On our day of departure they let us store our bag all day and even let us borrow a couple of towels to take to the leisure complex. I would recommend staying here.

Stayed a couple of nights at this B&B to look around the area. This is what I found:
- Had originally booked for a single room without ensuite (25 pounds) but when I arrived, they decided to suddenly upgrade me to a double bed with ensuite for no extra cost, which was a very nice surprise!
- Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
- Good location - very central to shops and everything, esp the post office which was very handy for me as I needed to send home a few XS baggage items I'd bought whilst on holiday!
- No wireless internet available (bit disappointed about that)
Otherwise a nice good value room, which I'd recommend to others.
