We bought a combined Lake Windermere and Lakeland Transport Museum ticket and set off on one of the large motor launches for the forty minute return trip to the museum. Excellent commentary and facilities on the boat with a well stocked bar. Dramatic scenery in not too clement weather was added to by the spray from the choppy water. Very exciting. Arrived at Lakeside and met by free bus trip to the museum. The transport museum is a little gem with many rare, but familiar exhibits topped off by the Sir Malcolm and Donald Campbell exhibition. Very poignant. Return to our hotel on return leg warmed by hot alcoholic beverages served on board our boat. Excellent value. Very interesting and another must do when visiting this spectacular location.

The first boat to Ambleside from Bowness and it was pouring ! The cruise was pleasant and upon alighting at Waterhead we were informed it was a 15-20 min walk into Ambleside ( so a slight misrepresentation )......we were not however informed that there was a shuttle bus between the pier and the village ( whichever we saw whilst waiting for the return cruise. It would help to have the commentary pre- recorded as the narrative was not very clear

Thank you for taking the time to review our attraction. It is approx less than one mile from our pier @ Waterhead to Ambleside village and the time it takes to walk can vary depending upon individual abilities.
The shuttle bus is not affiliated with Windermere Lake Cruises & does not operate a regular service in conjunction with any of our sailings. Therefore generally we do not know if & when it will be running & what its times are.
Our skippers like to make their own individual commentaries on our smaller launches so that they can be more personal & make more reference to what they see & are experiencing at the particular time & moment. They like to inject their own personality so although the cruise route may be the same, the passenger can have a different experience by way of the commentary on each occasion.
We are pleased to read that you found the cruise pleasant & hope you can join us again.

I've just been on a cruise across to Bowness from Windermere on Christmas Eve. It was very windy and a little choppy but that did not stop a lovely trip. The boat was warm with a bar serving drinks. Hot chocolate and Baileys went down very well. Clear vision through the large windows made it thoroughly enjoyable.

We visited between Xmas and new year 2013, sailed from lakeside on the first sailing in the morning at 10am we had promised my son - 3years old - that we'd take him on a boat while we were on holiday, he loved it!

We went from lakeside to Bowness and upon arrival the captain said that anyone going on to Ambleside could stay seated - having not read the timetables etc properly we hadn't realised that we could have gone all the way, we'd bought lakeside to Bowness return tickets. These were quickly and cheerfully exchanged for day rover passes, for the difference in cost from the fare we'd already paid to the one we wanted.

So by the end of the day we'd done a total of four sailings, each on a different boat. Each crew were friendly and polite, offered to help us on with the push chair etc.

Along each ride there was a commentary about the lake, houses along the shoreline and other interesting points.

I would highly recommend this attraction, even if you don't want to get off and wonder around the shops at the destinations, the boats were clean, warm and in good condition, a great day out.

The cruise trip was nice, albeit not very cheap. Ambleside is a little village which really has nothing much. Would prefer to have stayed in Bowness more.
