“Beautiful scenery”
Reviewed September 11, 2012 via mobile

A very beautiful place indeed. Took the morning yellow cruise which covers around half the lake and takes around 20 mins. Then followed by the steam railway train ride. Both are good experience and worth the time and money spent. Will recommend this indeed.

Many thanks for your lovely review & for recommending us. If I can just clarify a point for future visitors. The yellow cruise takes 40 mins each way between Bowness & Lakeside & the train journey between Lakeside & Haverthwaite is 20 mins each way. It is a beautiful trip & the first couple of sailings are usually the quietest of the day so its worth aiming for this if possible. thanks again for the review & recommendation

“Bowness to Ambleside”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

We weren't aware of what Brockhole was, it was a stop on the boat journey, so didn't get off the boat for a look around and return on a later boat. Well worth stopping here as its free entry and looks amazing from the roadside, the boat guide didn't really elaborate on it.

Many thanks for your review & four-star rating. I trust you had a pleasant day out. What I would say to anyone reading this review is please ask any of our staff for recommendations & advice about whats on offer around the lake. All our staff have been on reconnaisance visits to the attractions in & around the lake & spend their free time there with their friends & family. We're more than happy to help you plan your day out & answer any queries you might have.

“Cruise and Walk”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

Great value 'walkers Ticket' excellent day out with brilliant views. Cruise from Bowness on Windermere, lunch in Ambleside, ferry to visit Wray Castle and an easy walk south on the lake side to catch the ferry back. Highly recommended.

Great cruise although there wasn't much to do at Lakeland unless you wanted to go to the aquarium or the steam train.

Thanks for your review. There is the Aquarium & Steam train at Lakeside as you mentioned but also you can also catch a shuttle bus to the Motor Museum at Backbarrow from here. In the summer season, you can catch a little ferry across the lake to the award-winning Fell Foot park, perfect for picnics, paddles & the fabulous adventure playground. In the summer school holidays, the Freerider bus service operates from Lakeside which offers free transport to a number of other attractions & villages in the area (see our website for more info) Or as another reviewer suggested, pick up a copy of our Walks Booklet & set off on one the lovely walks, set out in the book.
I would definitely recommend anyone who isnt familiar to this area or maybe just need some new ideas, have a chat with any of our staff, who will be more than happy to make suggestions of whats on offer.

“Steam boat down the lake”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

We took the steam boat (converted to diesel) down the lake in conjunction with the steam train. It was a great afternoon activity on a rainy day. You can get the steam train and combined boat train ticket from a few of the stops in town. We went from Newby Bridge station and took the train two stops to the lake. Then changed to the boat for a ride down the river, 45 minutes each way. It was very fun and the kids enjoyed it. It was pretty reasonable with a family ticket. In the 45 pound range for two adults and two children.
