A lovely little pub with local ales and good food. I have found it by chance as a place to get out of the rain but it a lot more than that. Service was excellent the staff are friendly and always smiling. The food is good value for money and appears to welcome all young and old.

We always visit the John peel when in Bowness it is a great place to go you always get a warm welcome from everyone the food is typical pub grub but is excellent cannot find fault with anything we have had families are made welcome and service is second to none you don't have to wait long at either bar the only thing I would say it could do with decor been brighter. We will be going back soon

We decided on the old john peel after hearing from a family we met while there ,on a short break to the lakes ,how good the meals are and what good value for money, got to say we were not disappointed although it was quite busy we found the staff really helpful, the meals we saw coming from the kitchen looked delicious I decided on a steak pudding, then I saw the steaks served on a sizzling platter, finally decided on the lamb shank, out of this world, probably the best meal I have ever tasted (how do they do it at this price.? £12-95) Good selection of beers as well ,must organise another trip just to go.to the john peel again it,s well worth it

We had no food but the ale was great and the staff kindly went to get some plasters for my wife who had developed blisters due to insisting on wearing wedges for the 4 mile walk from our B&B.
That was all that mattered to us
