“Great pub - shockingly bad barman.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2013

Nipped in for a pint into this lovely pub - but witnessed an appalling barman. Some poor chap ordered a pint, barman pulled it, then let it settle and accidentally topped it up with another ale. The customer enquired whether he'd just put topped up with the wrong beer, barman said he had but that "it'll be fine, adds to the flavour". The guy accepted it and walked off. One of the other bar staff then questioned how he'd got away with that, to which he responded "ah its fine its only ****** tourists". Pretty appalling really. Hope the barman gets moved on by the management. Poor attitude.

“Hole in t'wall”

Called in for a couple of pints, good selection of real ales, we liked the quirky environment though appreciate having dead animals on the walls aren't to everyone's taste, friendly pub worth a visit

“weekday lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

My family and I had lunch on the 2nd of November at this pub, the food was good and the beer was a fair price. One thing about it though was the décor which was a bit olde worlde with animal heads up on the wall and advertisements for cigarettes adorning other walls, if they brought the pub up to date a bit it would make the inside look very good. All in all though a good pub to eat or just have a lunch time drink at.

“A Little Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

A proper Pub with proper beer, didn't eat there but the food looked good. It is supposed to be the oldest pub in the area and looks like it, however the staff must have many years of practice.

“Most traditional pub we found in Bowness”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

This pub is tucked away in the side streets of Bowness. We came across this whilst searching for local ales and were pleased with what we found. The food is average, but the ales and atmosphere were very enjoyable. Would recommend for an afternoon or early evening drink if you're looking for something a bit quirky and a real fireplace keeping drinkers warm from the Lakeland weather!
