The Burn How Garden House Hotel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 6, 2013

We booked up a two night stay for Burn How House with Travelzoo as part of our honeymoon. Everyone was really lovely right from the moment we arrived. Our little girl had been sick in the car about 15 mins away from the hotel and they helped us out with buckets of disinfectant to clean the car (in the pouring rain!) and then kept checking how she was. The room was lovely - like a little chalet overlooking the gardens (which were lovely even in the rain!). We had a double bed and one single bed and the bathroom was small but very clean and looked quite new. Lovely powerful shower. We ate in the restaurant on the first night as it was included in the Travelzoo deal (with a bottle of wine included too!) and the food was very nice. My husbands salmon was overcooked but everything else was lovely. My creme brulee was to die for!!!!

Breakfast was lovely with a wide range of cereals and fresh fruit and a lovely choice of freshly cooked English breakfast treats!

The hotel is very close to Lake Windermere which is only about a 5 minute walk and very close to the town centre and the restaurants and pubs. Would definitely stay here again when we return to the Lake District - I just hope we get some sunshine next time!!!!!

We are pleased to read that you managed to enjoy your honeymoon break even though it didn`t start very well with you daughter not being well. We hope that you had mentioned the problem with your salmon and apologize for this. It`s lovely to read that your creme brulee was to die for.

Four people visiting for 60th birthday. We had a very special time. Lovely room in the big house overlooking the garden. Beautiful gardens. Had three course meal on the evening, very nice. Breakfast very good, loved the variety of fruit, fresh berries strawbs, followed by a cooked breakfast. Would definitely recommend. One very minor criticism would be not to take away crockery whilst still eating but that was the only fault. Very central and close to the lake.

We are glad we were able to make this special day even more special to you. Thank you for letting us know you had enjoyable meals. We were sorry to read that some some crockery was cleared inappropriately as this is not generally the case. We hope this won`t stop you from returning to see us.

Great little hotel, in a fantastic location. We stayed in a chalet room which overlooked the gardens, the room was modern and very clean. The staff are fantastic and the evening meal and breakfast are out of this world. I strongly recommend this hotel if you intend to stay in Bowness.

2nd time we have stayed here. This time in a slightly smaller rose garden room, that was just as comfortable as the superior room we had before. Good location. Excellent, friendly staff and 1st class cooked breakfast for which the Hotel has won an award.

the view from the dining room window into the garden was delightful in the warm sunshine, watching the wild birds on the feeder.

Room Tip: Rose Garden rooms are nice, ground floor has easier access than 1st floor.

We booked this hotel as a Travel zoo deal for a couple of nights break. We had a lovely garden room which was clean well equiped and overlooked the picturesque garden. The deal included a 3 course evening meal and wine as well as breakfast. The evening meal was from a limited menu as part of the deal however the choice was excellent and the food was superb! The breakfast was also excellent and very plentiful with a great choice. I read a previous review that said they were made to feel 2nd class because they were TZ customers. This is not the case the staff were always helpful and friendly. The hotel is ideally situated, only a short walk form the centre of Bowness and I would throughly recommend the walk up to Brant Fell behind the hotel which has a 360 degree panorama view.

What a lovely hotel and chalet lodge. The room was very spacious with new en-suite. The hotel is in a quiet area but within 10 mins walking to centre of Bowness. The evening meal was of good standard and plenty. Breakfast was very good with a variety of fresh fruit. The staff are very accommodating and nice. I would recommend this hotel ask to stay in the chalet.

The food is excellent and the breakfast is outstanding. We were really looked after by very friendly staff. Excellent service. The rooms are a bit tired, this is the only reason why I do not give 5 out of 5.
