The Burn How Garden House Hotel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 16, 2013

We had a wonderful weekend stay here in April 2013. The Burn How is a beautiful place to stay and relax. Beautiful Gardens and lovely comfortable and peaceful rooms, all a couple of minutes walk from bustling Bowness and right on the doorstep of the Fells. The Breakfasts were delicious and set you up nicely for a good walk and the dinner in the restaurant was a good treat too. We had wonderful service and a great stay, can't wait to visit again soon.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 18 which was very quiet and had a four poster bed.

Just stayed at the Burn How for one night. It was brilliant.

Location is ideal - just a short walk from Bowness and lake Windemere. There is a nice little pub in case you want to have a drink in the evening (as not much going on in hotel bar) which is short walk away.

The food was outstanding - we had breakfast and evening meal here and if really was impressive.

The room was nice - nothing fancy but a nice room and very clean.

The staff are lovely and really helpful.

Would definitely return to this hotel!!

Our last visit was with our aged parents, 94 and 88 years young. They have loved coming to the Lakes since their honeymoon in 1945. We have visited this really comfortable and friendly hotel since 1991, when we celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary with 30 family and friends. Nearly every year we have managed to pay a visit, sometimes with family and sometimes on our own to experience the hospitality and wonderful food which Mike and his team always provide.
Special occasions and just popping in for a couple of days have been a must. What more could we want. Just Perfect.

It is always nice to welcome guests back and have their feedback, we were sorry that you found the bed uncomfortable as well as the pillows, as we could have changed the pillows for you if you had mentioned this.
We do have a large selection of bottled beers, which we find gives the guest more choice than only being able to accommodate one on draught.
We hope to we will see you on a 5th visit

Stayed on 1st April as part of a TravelZoo promotion deal. A very large comfortable room (a twin proved us with a double and single bed) overlooking the garden. Good facilities in the room. Dinner with 3 course menu and bottle of wine was provided as part of the deal. The meals were excellent and not rushed. A good base to explore the southern Lakeland or the local towns. Made to feel welcome throughout our visit. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't be put off by the appearance of this being a chalet style room - you get a good sized room...

Stayed lastnight 2/4/13. In chalet no.9. On the plus side, the chalet is good value as it can sleep 5 for £95. The meal me and my 9 year old daughter had was top notch. the steak and chips were the best i ever had (£23/£24) but with it tasting so good you do not care. yum yum. and the breakfast was realy nice . very good service and helpful staff. downside. our room d/bed very uncomfortable. had to sleep in single. the ceiling looked like it had been patched up in places. the socket for kettle was in the wrong place, and was hard to plug in. and the wall next to the door had a few dents in the wall.. and could not lock the windows on the main window when pulled close, you could not lock the handle down.. just simple things to put right but things you notice. plus side again rooms very warm pillows were lush and soft.. plenty tea and coffe and other hot drinks in your room.. bathroom had all you needed.. would i come back again.. yes yes yes need more of that fine food and lovely breakfast.. i would give this hotel 8/10 but if it dose them few little jobs in room 9. Then it wolud get 9/10.. Food. 10/10. Oh yes the puddings are to die for...... :-)

Thank you for your review, we are pleased that you had enjoyed both your dinner, and breakfast with us. We will be looking at the points you raised, the windows are lockable but the last guest must have locked the handle on leaving, we do keep a key for this at reception and we would have happily sorted that out for you if you had mentioned it.
We look forward to welcoming you back in the future
