“Just lovely!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

We come to Bowness once a yr for a mini break & this hotel has been our favourite so far & our first visit. 5 mins walk from centre of town literally, so great location. Easy to find. Room had the comfiest bed with big thick duvet, lovely white clean bathroom with warm towel rail, v cosy! Fab breakfast, lots of choice of entrees so wasn't just a typical English breakfast. Lovely staff, family run so u can tell the difference with service. They also have little chalet rooms as well which looked v sweet. Will def come back. Thank u!

My partner and I are frequent long weekenders and stayed in this hotel in late November 2011 and found it good value for money with good food and friendly staff.
We had a garden room which was nice and cosy. For the money we thought it was good value compared with other hotels we have tried in the area. Would go back.

Spent 4 nights in the Burn How in August. A nice stay in a nice friendly hotel. The breakfasts were absolutely brilliant! Not good for the waistline though. :-) The weather wasn't that wonderful but we enjoyed the walking and the area in general. Would definitely visit again. Maybe even next year.

We hope our breakfasts did not do too much damage to your waistline, and it is nice to know that even though the weather has not been at it's best you were able to get out and about around this wonderful area.
Hope to see you next year

13 of us gathered for a family celebration this summer and we had a celebratory dinner at the Burn Howe Hotel. The staff couldn't do enough for us and made us feel very welcome and the food was well presented and very tasty. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Burn Howe.

It is so nice to receive feedback from your family gathering, and I have passed on your review to the kitchen and let all the staff know that you had enjoyed your celebration meal.
We hope we will be able to arrange another similar celebration for you all in the future

Just returned from a weekend at this hotel. Found it on the internet so wasnt sure what it would be like. Didnt have to worry - food, staff and location was brillant. Within easy walking distance of all the pubs and resturants and the lakeside itself. Breakfast was a feast and the evening meal just superb. Will be going back!

I visited Burn How with my wife and two sons (22 and 14) for a long weekend. The accommodation had several good points - the localtion is good, being easy walking distance from the lake and the centre of Bowness. Service was excellent, everyone being very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was cooked to order (rather than the awful buffet approach) but for two out of the three meals the eggs were overcooked - nearly good but not. The rooms are spacious, but are tired and in need of renovation - nearly good but not. The beds were comfortable. We booked two rooms and one of the rooms had a musty smell which was most unpleasant - in addition this so called garden room did not overlook the garden (and several others in the same row were the same). It was clear to use that there had been a leak in the roof of the room, as the ceiling tiles were distorted and there was a tell-tale hole where someone had punctured the ceiling to let water out - however the staff did not seem to be aware of this. The owner gratefully changed our room after the first night and the second room was much better - however it was on the ground floor in a two storey block of eight rooms and you could hear every footstep of the people in the room upstairs - as a result we were woken up around midnight by guests returning to the room, and again at around 7 a.m. when the guests above got up.

The photographs in the Hotel's brochure are misleading as the garden is much smaller than the photo suggests, and the quality of the bedroom was not accurately reflected in the brochure picture.

In practice this is motel style accommodation with old outdated rooms around a lovely house with an excellent lounge for guests.

We would not visit Burn How again and cannot recommend it.

We are looking in to the points that you have raised as we do for all reviews and this helps us work on keeping the hotel we hope to guests expectations. As our photographs on the web-site were only taken earlier in the year it is difficult to see where they are misleading, our garden is spread right around the property and has 2 different lawn areas as well as a patio next to the restaurant.
But we thank you for giving us your view on this.

It was not our first selection but we happen to be there because it was said the hotel allows kids in the same room than parents altogether, without any extra charge (we have the same problem in all our trips right now, with 2 small kids)... Although the rooms are old and simple, it's a perfect place to be in Windermere if your accomodation election consider as important the service (personalized and very nice), the dinner and breakfast (varied and exquisite) as well as the location (very well position in the center of Bowness).

It is always a pleasure to read that the guests have enjoyed their breakfast and dinners, and it is good to be able to pass on your comments to the team in the kitchen.
It can be difficult arranging a room to have your children with you, but we do have 10 family rooms which families appreciate
