“Wonderfully refreshing and relaxing overnight stay”
Reviewed March 4, 2011

Returned to Lindeth Howe after first visiting this delightful country hotel in the 1980s. Big changes and even better welcome and value. The hotel is in a splendid setting above Lake Windermere and offers very comfortable accommodation. The staff were welcoming, cheerful and very efficient in catering to our every need. Comfortable chairs, log fires and a terrific afternoon tea were followed by a table d'hote dinner - part of the overnight stay package - which was one of the best meals I have ever had. Breakfast was equally good and a step up from any other I have enjoyed in the Lake District. My only criticism was of the room location with a low level constant hum in the background - rather like being on board a ship and probably from some sort of power or air conditioning plant. Slightly disconcerting but apart from that it was an absolutely perfect break, and terrific value.

Dear Trafalgar56,

Thank you for your fantastic review of Lindeth Howe. We are so pleased you have noticed massive improvements since you stayed at Lindeth Howe in the 80’s especially better welcome and value. We apologise your room had a constant hum in the background; unfortunately a fan had been mistakenly left on.

I have passed your very kind compliments to the team for their welcome, food, service.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Lindeth Howe soon.

Kindest Regards,

Alison,

I booked this hotel through an offer on the internet and I wasn't disappointed. I brought my boyfriend for a birthday treat, he is a chef and was very impressed with the food.
Fabulous value, room was perfect as was the view. Service excellent, staff friendly and the afternoon tea was a lovely bonus. Agree with other comments about the pool, it seemed to be closed when we were there, but the walks round and about made up for this.

my husband and i have previously stayed at Lindeth Howe on many occasions, and we have always enjoyed staying there. The food as always been fabulous, with lots of choice, so we thought we would splash out this year and spend christmas at Lindeth Howe, what a waste of money it was, the christmas dinner was no more than a caterers Bernard Mathews Turkey roll, a slice of processed meat, with sour cranberries over the top, this was supposed to be the TRIMMINGS.The christmas pudding was of the same quality, with instant very sweet brandy sauce, the only good thing about the meal was the soup. we complained to the maitre di, his reply was i have no idea what a traditional christmas dinner is, i am from Jamaica. There was no one to complain to as they all disappeared, and no one seemed interested. There was no buffet or snacks in the evening, no staff to be found anywhere, not a bit of christmas spirit about the place, it was like a morgue. We were not alone in our feelings of everything being done on the cheap, the menu throughout our XMAS stay was very poor very limiyed choice and not of the usual Lindeth HOwe standard. This is the and last time that we will go away for christmas, this was a very exspensive Bernard Mathews christmas lunch, and the only time that we have only had a bowl of soup for our christmas lunch and left the table still hungry, and we had to wait until breakfast the next morning before we could get something to eat.We did complain, but they didn't seem interested, we were going to speak to Alison the manager but it was her day off on the day of our departure. We would recommend Lindeth Howe, but not at christmas, we felt very let down by them, and certain members of staff, whom were not interested when we tried to complain.

Dear fruitpies,

I have noted your comment on 23rd February, my only response is we totally disagree. We are very proud of our Christmas package including our food and service at Lindeth Howe and we have received numerous compliments and return bookings through this. I am concerned why any of your issues were not brought to my attention when I did my satisfaction checks throughout this period.

Had a three night break at the hotel as a result of Air Miles. The hotel is elegant and has a relaxed atmosphere - the staff are wonderful and teh service is excellent. We had two dinners at the hotel and the food was simply wonderful - everything you would expect. We had a room on the second floor over looking the lake which was extremely comfortable and homely - being on the second floor It did mean having to carry my suitcases up several flights of stairs. I didnt see any porters at the hotel and there was no offer of help when we arrived. The only downside along with the 'leisure' facilities. The Hotel has been decorated with so much style and yet the pool area has been decorated like a childs nursery - bright green!. The pool is small - very small and the exercise room seemed somwhat outdated. There were no drinking water available and the cheap white plastic chairs and tables simply didnt match the rest of the hotel. This hotel would be perfect if they invested in the leisure facilities.

Dear trevor6410,

Thank you very much for your lovely review of Lindeth Howe. I am so pleased your enjoyed your room, the food, service and the elegance of the hotel.

Please accept our apologise for not taking your luggage to your room. We do not have allocated porters as such, however every member of the team at Lindeth Howe is very happy to transport all luggage to and from rooms. We normally anticipate guests’ needs and unfortunately have missed it on your occasion.

We do have a small pool which is for our residents use only and we decorated it the style we thought Beatrix Potter would have painted it of her interpretations of the lakes and views surrounding Lindeth Howe. We are at present having discussions for improvements in this area, but have not finalised anything as yet, so please watch our website for developments.

May we look forward to welcoming you back to Lindeth Howe soon.

Kindest Regards,

Alison,

My husband and I stayed here to have a weekend away before our first baby arrives. We got an offer which included a 5 course dinner, afternoon tea and breakfast.
We seemed to get an upgrade and we were staying in the Potter Room. It was lovely...huge bed, two plasma TVs (!), lovely views although the weather was a bit poor.
All of the food we had was lovely and we had a very relaxing time. I would definately stay there again.
The only downsides (although these are very minor) is that the pool was small, our room was too hot during the night and the service at dinner was a bit quick ( we had to ask for a break or I was going to pop from all the lovely food). But don't let these put you off staying as we had a fantastic time and really enjoyed our weekend.

Dear BeanyB,

Thank you very much for your fabulous review of Lindeth Howe. The Potter Room is one of our suites and we are so pleased you enjoyed it. I am sorry we missed explaining the room temperature control points in your room including under floor heating in the bathroom, which could have been turned off for you.

We are pleased you enjoyed the food and had a relaxing time. I’m sorry you felt the service in the Dining Room was a bit quick, I have mentioned this to the team to watch, to ensure this does not happen again.

May I wish you all the very best for your first baby’s arrival, its an exciting time for you both and hopefully you will be able to return soon and we can meet your new arrival.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

All the very best,

Alison,
Hotel General Manager.

We had a lovely break here, small swimming pool for a lively teenager but so colourful and clean. The room was well presented and the "turn down" service a nice extra. The food was exceptional and the library and sitting rooms extremely relaxing. Good central location to South Lakes.

We felt very welcome at the Lindeth Howe from arrival to departure. The lady on reception made us welcome and showed us round the public rooms on the ground floor before showing us to our room on the second floor. This was spacious and comfortable with a view over the gardens to the Hawkshead ferry. We had been looking forward to the dinner and were not disappointed: excellent food served in the elegant dining room. We will return.
