“Friendly service, comfortable rooms, recommended!”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

We were part of a group that took over a part of the hotel for the weekend.
The staff could not be more helpful. If in doubt, ask.
The public rooms are comfortable, the dining room has been refurbished, has a very civilised feel and the chef produces excellent food. Front of house service in the restaurant is professional and relaxed. Exactly what one would expect in a Country House Hotel, but does not always get.
Our room (111) was spacious, had the merit of having real coffee available rather than just the horrible instant granules, a vast reasonably firm (but not hard) bed (I dislike the soft mattresses found all too often, particularly in French hotels), free Wi-Fi Internet connection and attractive views from the windows over the gardens in the direction of the lake.
We have used this hotel on a number of occasions - we would not return if we did not think it was good.

We chose to stay here as a family and celebrate my husband's birthday weekend. I will say that while we enjoyed the hotel, we have payed similar prices to stay at 5-star hotels like the Ritz Carlton hotels and this is nowhere near that nice of an experience. So value for price paid is something to consider. I would say it was a 4 star experience (5 stars for the dinner restaurant portion). Overall, the hotel was pretty nice and we really enjoyed some features of the hotel.

Now I'll summarize with pros and cons for a family with kids:

Pros:
> There is a large garden for that is lovely with plenty for the children to explore. The gardener took time out to show my children the apple and plum trees and allowed them to eat some of the ripe plums. He was very kind and helpful to all the children. If you have young children be aware that there are some ponds onsite so children need to be well supervised.
> There is a small aviary/bird area which delighted my daughter.
> There is an indoor pool open from late morning to late afternoon. We swam there and I found it to be suitable enough for families to enjoy.
> The breakfast was delicious the whole family enjoyed the selections of yogurt/cheese/bread/pastries plus you could order hot items (anything english breakfast-oriented)
> Rooms were large enough and suitable for families.
> Dinner was outstanding - for adults. If your kids are old enough to watch a movie or read/sleep upstairs while you dine downstairs I would definitely recommend it. Compliments to the chef!

Cons:
> A few of the other guests at breakfast both mornings gave us dirty looks because we dared to bring our children in to dine. The children were not running around or being disorderly. I think it stressed a few of the diners out to think what the children might start doing at any moment (we have four kids in our family). However, the waitstaff/restaurant were kind to us and the kids behaved well. I would say to be aware of this if you have loud and/or small, active kids. Overall it was still a good dining experience.
> The restaurant at dinner is very formal and a great dining experience for adults - but definitely don't bring your children. They don't even allow kids under 7. We enjoyed dinner very much without the kids but the kids and ourselves agreed it would be torture for them to sit through a quiet 3 hour affair. We fed our kids take away from Bowness and then ate in the dining room on our own to celebrate my husband's birthday.
> One of our rooms (Room 115) was directly above the kitchen. We heard the piano playing until the restaurant closed at night (maybe around 11pm and also heard the staff making breakfast in the morning (started around 7am). Just something to be aware of if you have light sleepers and/or small kids.

Room Tip: Room 115 had restaurant noise, but a nice view. You can hear dinner until around 11pm and breakfast...

This was our second stay at Lindeth Howe and I have to stay that this visit exceeded the last which at time we thought was brilliant. On this occasion we booked the Potter Room and what a great choice as it certainly ticked all the boxes for comfort and views. We received a great welcome from Liz on arrival who then went out of her way to making sure we had fabulous stay. The food was as good as ever and on Travelzoo promotion offers great value for money. Only downside was they did not have the resident pianist during our evening meal as he was supposedly held up in Cambridge although this did not spoil our evening it's always great to have live background music. Mr Tony has assured me he will be back for our next visit. You really can't fault this hotel for great service and food. If you're wanting a great location for your stay in Bowness choose the Lindeth Howe as you will not be disappointed. They regularly have great late deals on their website which offer great value for money.
We're hooked on this small hotel and can't wait to return around christmas or early next year. Thanks to Mr Tony and his team for another fantastic stay.

This was our second visit and did not disappoint, we had a standard room rather than the superior room for our stay in 2012 but we where not disappointed as the view from room on the second floor was over the gardens with lake Windlemere in the distance. We ate in the restaurant for just the one night and found the food good but portions quite small. overall was excellent once again and we are looking forward to returning again maybe in 2014.

Room Tip: 111 is a corner room with dual aspect over gardens

Had a lovely couple of hours having afternoon tea. The food was well presented, tasty and fresh. The setting lovely. The only thing I would have liked is the waiter to have asked if we wanted any more of anything - I always think this should be mandatory as you don't want to appear cheeky

Arrived at this beautiful hotel and were immediately made to feel completely at home. This is definitely a 5 star experience and this hotel is such a beautiful place to stay. Our room was beautiful and very well appointed as were all the facilities. Dinner in the dining room is definitely a 5 star experience, be aware, you get a number of complimentary dishes along with your order. Staff were very professional but at the same time very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend a stay here to anyone - probably not too suited for young children.

Room Tip: There are stairs in this hotel so if you have issues with stairs (as we did), let them know at the t...

We stayed for one night and on arrival had a tasty afternoon tea for two, followed by a delicious evening meal in the restaurant. The lounges and restaurant were lovely, comfortable spaces to relax but we found that the bedroom, swimming pool and gym were all a little tired. Overall it was a nice place to stay for one night but didn't quite live up to the level of luxury we'd hoped for.

Room Tip: There is no lift so if you have trouble going up three flights of stairs you might want to request a...
