“Classy base for a Lakes holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

The short break price was higher than our usual range at £140 per night for two persons, but well worth it. The hotel is 15-20 minutes quite easy and pleasant walk from the centre of Bowness and boat piers, initially through its own gardens. The deal included a 1 day "freedom of the lake" ticket each, valid on all the Windermere boats so we could go all the way round. The main boats have a bar and toilets, and choice of outside deck or inside sheltered seating.
Back to the hotel.... fine breakfast, 10m indoor pool satisfactory, but the sauna took 25 minutes to make it from warm to properly hot; no steam room or jacuzzi. The highlight was dinner: true AA 2 rosette standard, with setting, food quality, presentation and service all on the fringes of fine dining. We were there only for 2 nights as a stopover between north and south, but definitely want to stay again for longer.

Just arrived home after organising my mums surprise 50th at the hotel. All the staff were helpful and went out of their way to help us make the surprise extra special (Alison and Warren to name just 2). Afternoon tea under the gazebo was lovely it did help that the weather was on our side. Evening meal in the library. We all had a brilliant stay and would love to go back. Again a big thank you for helping us make it so special for my mum xx

Just had a beautiful stay sadly only for one night.
Hot weather (hottest day of the year so far!) so would've appreciated air con in the room but this is a beautiful old house so torn between wanting mod cons and old world charm.
Enjoyed a dip in the indoor pool and then lounged in the garden soaking up the last of the afternoon sun.
From champagne afternoon tea on arrival to supper to breakfast the food quality was fab although hubby had tasting menu for dinner and would've liked bigger portions. His mistake ... The tasting menu was just that!!!
If you're into Beatrix Potter there's lots of artwork and memorabilia ... And for us this was a memorable stay (my 50th - eek!) Best birthday yet!!!!!

Firstly, before you read the negative points I believe that this hotel is ideal for any time of year other than summer and I would definitely go back during winter. The housekeeping staff also did a great job and the beds are comfortable.

The building itself and grounds along with the views are great but unfortunately the hotel is severly let down but a lack of investment with respect to coping with hot weather. We stayed during the recent heatwave and the lack of air conditioning in both the bedroom and dining areas made the stay largely uncomfortable which is not what you would expect from a hotel of this status. As has been mentioned in other reviews on this site, the windows can only be opened by around three inches and so the bedroom was essentially a greenhouse. Whilst the lake district isn't generally associated with hot weather the management needs to realise that this is likely to be the case during the summer months which is the peak season. If they aren't willing to invest in temperature controls then they should not charge the rates that they currently do. In addition to this, upon arrival we found that the central heating in our room was switched on despite the fact that the previous days had been the hottest of the year!

Both the breakfast and afternoon tea were of a good standard and the staff were attentive.

The menu for dinner was varied and the food itself was of a generally good standard although I am not convinced that it deserves the double rosette from the AA which it currently has as we have been to other hotels with restaurants of higher standards without this award. Whilst the staff, as previously mentioned, were attentive we found it a bit strange that they were not refilling our glasses of water which would be expected in such a hotel.

Room Tip: Don't book during the summer.

Have always wanted to stay at this hotel and the perfect opportunity arose. We were not disappointed. We stayed in the 'Potter Room' which was just perfect in every way. The hotel has some wonderful links to the Beatrix Potter story and we felt so price lived to stay here. Would love to come back here.

This quaint hotel was pure luxury. My room was very comfortable with a big bathroom. My bed was turned down every evening and a chocolate left on my pillow. The breakfast was average. There is a pool there where I went a few times. The place is just so relaxing. There is a library, dining room and a bar. Afternoon tea there is a must.

We stayed for two days at the end of June on a Travelzoo break which included an all day ticket for the Winderemere Lake Steamers and a packed lunch. Hotel is 15 mins walk from the steamers. The packed lunch provided included generously filled sandwiches, thick sliced home home cooked roast beef and ham. No plastic supermarket meats! Fresh orange juice, fruit and a 'quality brand' yogurt were also included. The only disappointment was the fruitcake, which although it was homemade and very tasty, it was miniscule! It was barely an inch and a half square! Had we been charged for the packed lunch priced at 'from £8.50' I would have complained. It just seemed as if cost conciousness had gone mad.
Everything else about our stay was perfect, as usual. The breakfast is generous, if you ask for two sausages, they are provided without question. The evening meal, which is included as part of the deal is delicious. It is a little disappointing that the menu does not vary each night unless you select the chef's reccomendation for which there is an extra charge.
Despit these minor niggles Lindeth Howe remains a lovely hotel in which you can have a lovely relaxing stay in an excellent hotel. The staff smile, are attentive but do not bother you every 5 minutes asking if everything is alright!
Would recommend
