Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 20, 2013

This was our second stay at Lindeth Howe and after a very enjoyable first stay last year we had high hopes. We were not let down. We enjoyed and excellent afternoon tea, wonderful scones and carrot cake. This was followed by a dip in the pool and a quick spin in the fitness room. These facilities are a lovely bonus. Dinner in the newly refurbished restaurant was delicious with an excellent choice on the menu. Service was professional and at no point did we feel rushed. We had room 114 which overlooked the garden. It was spacious, warm and cozy, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The area is so peaceful what you cannot fail to have a good nights sleep. We had an enjoyable walk to Bowness and onto Windermere town the following day to work up an appetite for dinner that night. The hotel itself is lovely and relaxing, it is wonderful just sitting in one of the lounges and unwinding. We had a fabulous stay at Lindeth Howe and the icing on the cake was to wake up, draw back the curtains to see a wonderful wintry scene, the snow was fallingand everywhere was so picturesque. It was just a shame we had to return home, but we will certainly return.

We booked on the Travelzoo offer and paid the supplement for a Saturday night stay, it was an excellent deal and good value for the price paid, I am not quite sure if I would feel the same way had I paid the hotels normal prices, don't get me wrong everything was really good but not magnificent. Our room was lovely and spacious, with everything it there we needed it was almost spotlessly clean, the skirting boards and window cills needed a bit of attention, some maybe not notice but I like things perfectly clean at home. The bed was really comfy and linen crisp and white, we didn't have a fantastic view but the spaciousness of the room made up for that. The evening meal was a nice treat, plenty of choice, maybe could have done with some vegetables but we both enjoyed what we had. The dining room was nice and the service excellent, can't fault that in any way. The lounges are lovely to sit and relax in, plenty of room for everyone. As part of our deal we had a small afternoon tea which was nice and fresh and served with a glass of fizz, a lovely start to what was a great overnight stay. The breakfast was also very good and again the service top class. All in all I would return but it would have to be on a deal offer again as personally compared to other places we have stayed it is a bit overpriced.

Stayed here on a "deal" very expensive otherwise. Our room was a superior, its size was about 20ft x 20ft & with the biggest bed I have slept in. Everything was in the room, flat screen 32" TV, trouser press, iron & board towelling dressing gowns as well as the usual hair dryer tea & coffee tray etc. This is the second time we have stayed here & will definately be returning. Our deal included afternoon tea & glass of sparkling wine on the first day with a 7 course evening taster menu. The following evening meal was 5 course from the Table d hote menu. Food fabulous & out of this world. breakfast on both mornings excellent, plenty of choice & nothing is too much trouble to them. We walked into Bowness about 15 mins. Gardens & views amazing. Superb break.

Room Tip: All rooms I have seen are great.

We've stayed here more times than we can remember. Every time we go it is amazing. The location is fantastic, Bowness and Windermere are beautiful, and the hotel overlooks the lake. The staff are all really nice and always make you feel welcome. We've stayed in many different rooms and even the cheapest standard rooms are large and well equipped.

We had dinner in the restaurant both nights, as we always do, and the food was delicious. We have never had a bad meal in all the times we have come and dinner is one of the highlights of our stays. The dining room has just been redecorated and is beautiful. If you're lucky they occasionally have a pianist play the grand piano while you eat.

While the prices can be quite high they are well worth it, and they have such great deals that you can often get dinner, bed & breakfast for half the listed price. We heartily recommend Lindeth Howe to anyone looking for a relaxing, romantic break in the Lakes with some great meals.

Room Tip: The garden view rooms are lovely and cheaper than the lake views. The Potter Suite is expensive but...

We stayed on a Travelzoo deal which cost £150 for an overnight stay, small afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast - excellent value. From the outside, the Lindeth Howe doesn't look overly special - however the grounds are amazingly well tended and I imagine in spring / summer, they'll look wonderful.
Inside, it is warm and snug with an abundance of real fires and comfortable seats in the bar and sitting room areas. We paid for an upgrade to a deluxe room with a lake view. Other reviewers seem to have had dressing gowns and the like - we didn't so I'm not sure if 'deluxe' is the right description but it was quite spacious and the view was amazing, despite the February fog. The bed was standard size and quite soft but comfortable and the bathroom looked very new. The small afternoon tea was really good - just enough food to keep you going - definitely worth the money if you have to pay seperately. The Lindeth Howe is renowned for its food and dinner did not disappoint - excellent presentation, helpful waiting staff and a really tasty, imaginative menu. There was plenty of space between tables and a pianist playing - we loved it. Overall, we had a great stay with just one small disappointment. We'd pre-paid for a bottle of champagne to be in the room upon our arrival but unfortunately, they gave us prosecco instead - quite a difference in price. When we queried this the response was a bit 'oh ok we'll change it...' rather than any real sense of surprise or apology. As I said, a small point but a shame to leave any negative impression when everything else about this place is so good.

Dear SR73

Thank you for your kind words about the Lindeth Howe Hotel. I shall pass on your comments to marc our head chef who will let the rest of his team know how much you enjoyed the food. I would like to apologise for the mix up with the champagne and let you know this is not our usual standard. We at the hotel pride ourselves on a high standard and friendly service and are so disapointed in ourselves if we dont get thing right.
I hope this will not deter you from visiting the Lindeth Howe in the future.

Was very impressed with the food at this place and there is some real care and creativity in that kitchen. Hotel itself is ok, if a little old fashioned (but perhaps you like that kind of thing). Swimming pool/sauna is average. A little rough around the edges which is reflected in the lower price when you compare to top country hotel room rates. However, NO COCKTAILS! Unforgivable. ;)

Booked a night via travelzoo which was £150 for dinner bed and breakfast and afternoon tea and prebooked an upgrade to a lake view.

The room was really lovely with beautiful window seat overlooking lake. Touches like water, a filled ice bucket, dressing gowns and nice selections of teas were all great. Bathroom spotless and bed comfy. Afternoon tea with champagne was delicious - sandwiches freshly made and scone fab. We did the tasting menu for dinner - which was nicely presented and beautifully cooked and desserts were gorgeous though Brie mousse not quite to my taste, however steak was gorgeous.

My only comment would be the dining room could have be more cosy as it was a bit cold and brightly lit but that is a minor quibble - the lounge area is cozy and warm.

We slept well as it was so quiet and breakfast was lovely and freshly cooked.

In summary the deal represented great value for money and we felt very pampered and wished we were staying for 2 nights.

We stayed in rm 107
