Lindeth Fell Country House

I've stayed here three years running now, and I don't know of a nicer or better value small hotel anywhere in the UK. The Kennedys and their staff are utterly delightful. Nothing is too much trouble, everyone is extremely efficient, and there is an atmosphere of welcome and calm civility as soon as you walk in. It is in a most beautiful spot, overlooking Lake Windermere with the hills of Coniston behind it ,and and the garden is spectacular. The food, both at breakfast and later in the day, is consistently good in an unpretentious way with generous portions, and the wines are varied, well chosen and extremely good value. Some of the bedrooms are quite small, but the there are two extremely nice sitting rooms downstairs, one with a spectacular view and with some unusually interesting books to read. It has won many awards, both locally and nationally, and it absolutely deserves them. I strongly recommend it.

Room Tip: There are only 2 single room, and only one ("Loweswater" not "Derwent"), I think...

We have just returned from a short break at Lindeth Fell. A fabulous location with amazing views. The owner Sheena & her family are super hosts that cater for your every need. Expect to have your every need catered for but take some comfy clothes as the food is so good your waistline may expand during your stay.
The room was so clean & the views amazing. We stayed in Rydal room & the view was lovely.
Thank you to Sheena & her family and a special thank you to her staff. We will be back.

I first visited Lindeth Fell around 2 years ago and have not had the opportunity to repeat it since, spite visiting the wider Cumbria area at least monthly (work commitments dictate hotels in other areas). Then, it was excellent. I was therefore anticipating my return, and was not disappointed. It remains superbly well run, spotless, quiet and very welcoming and professional. It is a credit to its owners and its staff.

My friend and I stayed at Lindeth Fell in September 2012 for a couple of nights and had a enjoyable stay. Our "Rydal" room had a bay window with a distant lake view. The room was a good size with ensuite bathroom and made up with twin beds as requested. The sitting room had a wonderful view over the lawn, gardens and to the lake. The meals were excellent and every meal Diana Kennedy would wander around to make sure you had everything you needed, seconds were always offered. The one thing that we didn't like was that for your stay you were allocated a particular table so if you wanted to sit at a different table (say with a nicer view of the garden) you had to ask. We did ask to be moved from our original table as it was right next to a wall heater and this was uncomfortably hot for me. We didn't venture out one day because the weather was miserable and because we hadn't been out to get anything to eat for lunch Sheena was most concerned and arranged a tray of roast meat sandwiches with gravy left over from lunch for us. Sheena wasn't too sure about having gravy on the sandwiches but we convinced her it would be perfect. I wonder if this is now a snack menu item? Walking around the garden was well worth it, finding hidden spots of interest. I would definitely come back to stay if ever back in the UK in the area.

Friends and I have just returned from having a festive afternoon tea at this charming family run country house hotel. The hotel is situated in private grounds in Windermere and is thoroughly charming. The ambience is real log fires, old fashioned sitting rooms and wonderful attentive service. The food was beautifully served and offered plenty of choice. We stayed for nearly 3 hours and enjoyed every minute. The lady owners were in attendance and added to the personal touch that made the whole experience a Christmas treat. The cost was very reasonable and I will be returning in the summer to enjoy the enviable views this lovely old property provides. Please go and experience some customer service from a by gone age. Lovely.

Dear Helen C,
Thank you for your wonderful review.
We have just refurbished one of our lounges and discovered a beautiful wooden floor which is now polished and installed a log burner which all adds to the hotels charm.
We look forward to welcoming you back in the summer to appreciate the tranquillity, views and grounds, fingers crossed for some sunshine.
With best wishes,
Caroline

We spent a short break at The Lindeth Fell last weekend, celebrating our wedding anniversary. The hospitality, service and food was second to none. Our A la Carte evening dinner on the Saturday was one one the best meals we have ever had. Very extensive choice on the menu to suit all requirements and tastes. The chef here certainly knows how to cook very fine food. The breakfast in the morning gave us a great choice of cereal, fresh fruit etc from the buffet and an excellent choice of freshly cooked food including a grilled breakfast, smoked salmon and scrambled egg on a toasted English muffin etc, etc. The room was excellent, roomy, clean and very comfortable. The en suite bathroom was very contemporary, squeaky clean with bath, shower cubicle, toilet and sink. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and we certainly hope to return to this family run hotel in the future.

Room Tip: We had a Classic room which was more than adequate. There are more expensive rooms which do look fab...

Came across this hotel by accident because we walked out of another very expensive hotel in the locality ,because it was shabby and down at heel.
Lindeth Fell gave us a good feeling as soon as we walked in ; the place is so comfortable ,well furnished and not stuffy.
The bedroom was well appointed ,good linens ,large fluffy towels and tea making facilities.
Dinner was superb in a spacious dining room , immaculate tableware, good choice of food served by excellent staff.
We will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the lake
