“Return anniversary treat”

Not the cheapest one night break, but as the saying goes 'you get what you pay for'! Lovely place to visit with beautiful gardens to sit out and enjoy afternoon tea. The staff are really helpful and friendly, rooms more than adequate and the food to die for. Well worth a visit, we'll definitely be returning again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 20 this time which was great as it had a Juliet balcony so we were able to have th...

We booked this hotel on recommendation from friends and it is a very nice hotel indeed in a lovely quiet setting overlooking Lake Windermere. It is a fine old country house with a new restaurant annex and has been improved over the years I understand, to become a lovely place to have a meal and to stay. The staff are very friendly and work hard to ensure your visit is memorable. I would definitely return and hope to do so when and if they are not full up!

Having said that, I hope the bedroom refurbishment is going to be finished soon as the bathroom in our room was rather tired..stiff tap, a sink plug that didn't work, a weak electric shower over a high set bath and a shower head that only flopped down against the wall. Simple things..obvious but not corrected for some long time.

The meals were excellent and beautifully presented. That they are special is not in doubt but the menu is identical every night and I understand was the same months ago. We and at least two other sets of guests staying at the time could only find two choices that we liked and hence it was a challenge on the third and fourth nights...in fact one couple decided to go out for a meal in a local restaurant instead.

The Ryebeck us a GOOD place...please try it but it is a little tired in detail and that menu....not good enough I'm afraid..surely the chef get's bored stiff doing the same things day after day?

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room...they are working through them all as soon as they can! The Lake facing...

A delightfully extended Country House which is situated within lovely grounds and gardens. This was our first experience of staying and dining in this beautiful Hotel and it won`t be the last. It is fair to say you must have your own transport as it is a short joruney up from the Lake but on arrival there is plenty of car parking space. The day begins with an excellent choice of breakfast and the eveninhg meal is a sheer delight. Very pleasant bar area, beautiful dining area and two good sized rooms to relax and enjoy your after dinner coffee/drinks. The management and staff are friendly, helpful, and very efficient. I understand the hotelis open all year round and in my opinion it would be a wonderful venue to stay over the festive season. My wife and I will definately return in the near future.

Room Tip: The Ground Floor rooms have a very limited view of the lake so if this is important then better to c...

Lovely setting and very friendly helpful staff.
We stayed b&b on the hotest week of the year. Our room (18) was small, but very clean, there was no aircon or room fan so we had to have the window open and it was noisy with deliverys in the morning. The room was noisy till just after 10 at night as it was above and near the kitchen so you heard the extractor fans.
The hotel is in a lovely setting and it was very relaxing to sit outside and watch the sun setting in the evening.
The breakfasts were lovely and set us up for the day.

My wife and I had a two night DBB stay booked through Hotel Shop. Very friendly staff. Clean and adequately sized room with good bathroom and a shower that was simple to use (not always the case in hotels) The two evening meals were very good, and elegantly served. The fine, hot weather made sitting outside in the evening with coffee a real pleasure.

Room Tip: No lift so keep to first floor if you have mobility problems, though staff are very helpful with lug...

He stayed here on a 2 night deal that included dinner and breakfast.

The grounds were well appointed and the hotel being set up on a hill looked over the lakes at the bottom.

When we booked the hotel we put a note on saying we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and my birthday and if possible could we have a nicer room and the reception staff called my Husband to say if we want a nice room then we have to pay for it. I have been to many hotels around the world and I have never been asked to do this and they have always accommodated us where possible. It would have been a nice gesture if they could have accommodated us but if you are celebrating something special here do not expect them to go out of their way with regards to a nicer view etc

The check in was quick but there is no actual front desk so we were not sure where to go until someone came out of their office to check us in.

As many people have said the rooms are far too small and I completely agree with this. We stayed on the ground floor and with a suitcase it was quite tight moving around the room. There was very small TV in the room (19inch) and the cushions on the bed are feather (for anyone with a feather allergy like myself). The pillows and duvet were not feather luckily.

The bathroom was dated and the shower was run off the bath taps which is completely unacceptable for the money this hotel charges. Therefore the shower had very little pressure (room 3).

The best part about the room was the home made cookies each day as they were delicious.

The hotel is a 20 minute walk (downhill) into Bowness and a 25 minute walk back up the hill. It is a little dangerous as for part of the walk there is no path so you have to walk on the road.

The food was a whole other story. We have been to michelin star restaurants in London and The Ryebeck is not far off the quality and presentation of those restaurants. We received canapés, amuse bouche, starter, main and dessert included in the price of the room. The food was delicious and the service was quite good (the first night we had a long wait in-between our main and dessert.

The breakfast was good and is cooked to order, there is a selection of cereal, fruit and pastries on the buffet table. Unfortunately on the second morning it seemed like our order was misplaced and we waited 40 minutes for breakfast but it was worth the wait.

Upon checkout we were charged an additional £9 for drinks we did not have, on the bar bill they appeared as 3 dots (no idea what they had put through). I believe other customers have had similar issues with the bill so you must check the bill when you check out. This was rectified upon leaving.

The wifi is terrible as this can only be accessed in the lounge (not even on the terrace)

If I could have given this hotel a 3.5 then I would have done as it is better than 3 but not quite 4.

Overall the food is fantastic but the hotel does need some improvements.

My husband and I were invited to lunch here by some friends who were hosting a reunion. Our friends' hospitality was superb and we had a wonderful time. Drinks outside were plentiful, relaxed and informal. Lovely!
The hotel itself was in an attractive, peaceful location. As we knew, the room would not be ready until after the event, but there was nowhere to change, so we had to arrive in best clothes after a long hot journey, which was not ideal. We hung around the hallway for some time before being approached by a member of staff. However, our room was comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was excellent.
I would be a little concerned about eating here if we had booked in ourselves for a night, as the portions of vegetables were almost non-existent. We had to ask for potatoes, and were then brought two roasted ones on a table for six! The side vegetables were in a dish for one person only. We all laughed. We hadn't come for the food and what there was was beautifully presented, but it's definitely Nouvelle Cuisine and not for hearty appetites! I was given the wrong main course (I have an allergy) which no member of staff checked. Apparently, mine was handed to someone else on our table. We discovered this after we'd finished. Nobody approached us to ask if everything was OK.
It's very difficult to comment when one is being hosted. I have no complaints whatsoever about that, but I feel that the hotel misrepresents itself on its website. Walk-in shower and expensive toiletries there are not. I'm happy to give it 4 stars, as the ambience and location are really good, but for a few days away, it would be a bit disappointing.
