“Beautiful views and wonderful, friendly service”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

My son and I stayed for three nights on a last minute booking, great price for a beautiful hotel and relaxing stay. We had separate rooms, both beautifully appointed, bathrooms lovely with heated towel rack and gorgeous toiletries, spotlessly clean and fresh. Breakfast was fantastic, plenty to choose from and served with such courtesy and friendliness. Wonderful places to sit and enjoy the scenery of the grounds and beyond and the peacefulness, either in the sitting rooms with extra soft seating in large armchairs to enjoy afternoon tea or in the small, well stocked bar for warming mulled wine. Can not fault this small hotel, or the staff and food. A wonderful treat in such a beautiful place.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view room, although all rooms have a nice outlook

We only had time to stay for one night for our wedding anniversary and had a fabulous stay. We had one of the smaller rooms but it looked over the gardens and Windermere lake and had the weather been nicer, had doors leading to the patio with a small table and chairs which we would have used.

The staff were so helpful and the decor is wonderful; country house style (as it is an Edwardian house from 1904) but with a boutique feel in the lounges and bar. But the real selling point is the food - possibly the best meal I have ever had. The website says "Saturday £42.50 for three courses including coffee". The actual bill was £30 a head (probably discounted due to being hotel guests, I didn't ask) with canapes and a small soup before the starter, making this a five course, five star dinner and tremendous value. Everything was fresh, seasonal, beautifully presented and really delicious. I can't recommend this hotel and food enough and it made our anniversary even more special. Thank you Fayrer Garden.

My husband and I stayed at Fayrer Garden House Hotel from Friday 7th Dec until Sunday 9th 2012. We stayed in a double garden room and found the room to be spacious, spotless and with all the facilities you would expect. The staff were exceptional and nothing was of more importance to them than your enjoyment of your stay. The food, I can only describe as delicious, a wonderful varied menu to tantalise the taste buds and entice you to try something a little different. Wonderfully presented and again the service was outstanding. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Lake district, a short stroll into Bowness or indeed further on to Windermere, ideally located.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a larger double, ours was great, no19 garden room a large double aspect room with fabulou...

This is a lovely hotel with nice views of the lake from the lounges and restaurant. My wife and I stayed 3 nights b & b in a Garden Room which was spotlessly clean, sumptious with lovely cushions and bedding as well as nice views of the autumnal garden, the only gripe being the shower was a bit temperamental on temperature one morning no hot water and on another it was too hot as was unable to get sufficient running of cold. On our last night we decided to have an evening meal in the restaurant, this was absolutely delicious and well presented as are the breakfasts which are truly generous and have plenty of choice to fill you up for the day. It's worth bearing in mind when selecting this hotel that it is a little remote and if you wish to walk into Bowness on dark nights (appx 1.5 miles) be aware there is no street lighting on the main road down making it quite scary and dangerous due to the traffic, but if you are content to stay within the hotel there is a bar serving drinks to suit all tastes. The staff are excellent both friendly and courteous and overall I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel or returning ourselves.

Room Tip: you dont need to necessarily choose a lake view room,as you get the same views from the lounges and...

Stayed here in October our second visit but last time was 2008 and again it was a first class experience. Some of the Staff where still there which tells you something and nothing was too much trouble. The location is stunning over looking the Lake and the Food is exceptional. I would have no hesitation in recommending Fayrer Garden.

Warm welcome to comfortable hotel. Lovely gardens with terrace overlooking Lake Windermere- viewed from inside as it was very wet! We had a standard double room which was fine and had a view of the gardens at the front with beautiful Autumnal colours. Lounge has big squashy sofas & space to relax and read. The bar is cosy too with jazz playing. Breakfasts were well presented and tasty with a good choice of full cooked, continental, scrambled egg & smoked salmon, kippers plus cereals, & toast. The only slight criticism was the local radio station- would have preferred quiet music. The public areas were tastfully done but there were piles of washing on the landing almost every time we went through it and a vacuum cleaner- beyond check-in time which spoilt the appearance. We were given a voucher to use the Swimming Pool at the Old England Hotel in Bowness for free- great on a wet day!!

Room Tip: We were told in advance that the room we'd chosen didn't have a Lake view - but the view of...

We choose the lake district for a rare treat , a weekend away for just the two of us. The views of windermere from room 31 were perfect. The food was excellent. Breakfast was just right. The evening meal was delicious (one of those places where as the plate gets bigger the portion gets smaller! But the quality was outstanding). Not somewhere that I would have been comfortable to stay with the children, but excellent for couples. Our only winge was that we didn't have a 4 poster like the one in the pictures.
