I've stayed at this hotel once before, the rooms and public areas are really nice. We paid for a lake view and the room and view was really good. It's in the centre of Bowness so really handy for everything. The only downside to the weekend was the service, I wanted a drink in the bar and there wasn't anyone around for 10 minutes to serve me, when the bar staff arrived they where very helpful but the initial wait was too long. At breakfast the service was a bit slow and I overheard a couple at the next table saying they had waited for 45 minutes for a cooked breakfast. We had continental breakfast so helped outselves apart from tea and toast which was a little slow. Our room was in the older part of the building so when I wanted to connect to the internet I was told I would have to pay as the rooms in the older part did'nt have free wifi which the web site did not explain. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay again but be prepared for a few niggles!!

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel. The location is amazing, only yards from the lake with uninterrupted views, but only a minute's walk from both the ferry terminals and the town of Bowness. We had booked with Superbreak and were allocated a lovely big room with a view of the lake. The room was spotless, with large, comfortable bed, tea and coffee, TV and a big bathroom. Couldn't fault it. The hotel itself looks as though it has recently been refurbished and the public areas were all gorgeouas, again with great views over the lake. We had full English breakfast both day which was plentiful and freshly cooked and we ate this by the large picture windows in the dining room. We ate in the hotel both nights - the food was faultless, though I do agree with other reviewers that service is slow. This did not spoil our evenings, however, as we were content to relax and just enjoy our time. Bar food also was lovely - had a huge platter of pastries for just £3, could have served four of us!

The spa looks really nice, but the pool was freezing, which is perhaps my only real complaint of the time we spent. There is a little sauna and steam room which were nice, and my husband enjoyed the gym. Parking outside the hotel is a little difficult as the car park is a couple of hundred metres away from the hotel and not instantly obvious. However, if you pull up in front of the hotel, the staff will valet park for you on request. All staff we encountered were pleasant and friendly.

Bowness itself is a nice little town, with lots of little shops and galleries to visit. Various trips are available at reasonable cost on the ferries and we spent a day in Ambleside. All in all, we had a great visit and I would be very happy to return to this hotel. Thanks to everyone for such a great stay!

Room Tip: Views across the lake are stunning - would definitely request one of these.

Stayed here for the 2nd time on our wedding anniversary, booked a cheap deal for the second year running and was not disappointed, great location, friendly staff, good spa facilities and lovely breakfast. Bowness is an excellent place for a romantic break or as a family which we have done on many occasion.

Many thanks Griffith Family for your positive comments.

Many other guests have commented on how The Old England is an excellent place for a romantic break, we would have to agree, those stunning views across Lake Windermere, and our beautiful Spa to relax in after a hard days shopping/Walking!

We are delighted you had such an enjoyable 2nd Anniversary.

We look forward to welcoming you back to The Old England in the near future, and who knows, hopefully it will be to celebrate anniversary number 3.

Kind Regards

Edward Cross
