I booked my room through Otel.com for my daughter and son in law's wedding. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing for both the wedding breakfast and the evening buffet. All guests had a fantastic time. The weather was glorious and the views were amazing. The rooms were very large and well equipped. I would recommend this hotel to anyone ,especially if you are planning a wedding. Thanks to all the staff for making it such a special day

Room Tip: Rooms with a lakeside view. However family rooms are very spacious

We stayed at the Belsfield for 2 nights over easter. Good points - the hotel is in a wonderful position and we had great views of the lake from our window. The bed was comfortable. However our room was just not up to standard for a room which cost £130 per night excluding breakfast. It badly needed decorating, the furniture appeared to have come from a junk shop, the carpet needed replacing, and the shower room was so tiny it was quite difficult to get in.

Dear tripadvisor reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about the Belsfield Hotel, I am happy to see that you enjoyed the views from the Hotel and that the bed was comfortable.

Regarding your bedroom, as I am unaware which room you occupied it is difficult to pass comment on any specifics, however due to the historical nature of the property we do have a small percentage of shower rooms which are small, we are looking to address this in the near future.

Once again thank you for using tripadvisor.

Kind regards,

Richard

We stayed here for three nights on a bed, breakfast and evening meal deal through TravelZoo. Yes, the hotel looks a tiny bit tired in parts, but it is clean and full of character. We paid the supplement for a lake view and this was worth every penny. The hotel is full of history and this provides plenty of atmosphere making "dressing for dinner" essential to complete the experience. The location is perfect, three minutes walk to the ferry pier and only a few more to the centre of Bowness.

All the staff were great. From the lady on reception to the very helpful restaurant and bar staff. Actually I would like to give a special mention to the restaurant staff as they were very attentive and friendly.

Now onto the food. The breakfasts were excellent - a good range of cooked self-serve ingredients including eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, black pudding and fried bread. Also fruit, cereals and yoghurt, but we didn't get past the full English.

The evening meals were amazing. I wanted to lick my plate after every course. Nicely presented, but not overly pretentious with the emphasis on taste. In fact by the second day I decided to skip lunch so I could be extra hungry and really enhance the experience. Thankfully as we were in the Lake District, I was doing a lot of walking, so didn't put on too much weight. I didn't get the name of the chef, but apparently he only joined a few months ago and is clearly making a good job of it.

The only negative was the bed which was a bit soft for my personal choice, but would probably be fine for others.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a lake view if you intend to spend some time in your room.

Took my partner for a three night break over Easter this year to celebrate her birthday. Found this hotel to be of a very good standard with massive double bedroom and large sitting room all with excellent room facilities. The hotel has plenty of character and has an interesting history hence why the rooms are very large.
The breakfast is self service and if you do not like the typical english breakfast then choice is very limited with the exception that other breakfasts are on the menu but will have a supplementary charge to be paid. Evening meals are of excellent standard and staff are all very friendly and helpfull, and will go out of their way to help you.
Excellent views of the lake and hotel is set in lovely gardens which will probably be very nice in the summer

Room Tip: upper rooms which have lake views are very large and comfortable

What a location - one of the most beautiful views you could wish for and a great central location withing walking distance of most things but quiet enough to be a lovely retreat from the hustle and bustle down below.
The staff were most obliging at every opportunity, the room was very clean and had everything you could need, the breakfast was very good with so much choice and we sat in the bay window overlooking the lake for over an hour enjoying it!
The hotel may not be to everyone's taste as some of it is a little dated and tired in places, but that in no way detracts from it's splendid position, great service and fantastic value for money.
I would go back tomorrow and wish I was!

My wife and I stayed for a 2 nights deal through Living Social which came in at £149.00 for 2 breakfasts and one evening meal. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Great views from the dining room out over the lake to the surrounding mountains. The breakfast was adequate, no comparison with Spanish hotels in terms of the range of foods available, but we were quite happy. The evening meal was very good: great starter and trout/salmon main course which was spot-on. We particularly liked the desserts as well. There was a nice and comfortable feel to the place, it felt most relaxing. Only downside was the room (#63) was very hot during the night (even with the radiator turned off) in spite of the -2degC outside temperatures.
Lastly, a big thank you to the senior sous chef James Godfrey who took the time to write down the bread-making recipe - great bread by the way.

Room Tip: Ask staff about room temperature in the night time... A local pub in Bowness was very expensive for...
