“Simply Superb”
Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

Just returned from a 1 night break with evening dinner at this superb hotel. The hotel is in a traditional style but has a modern, clean and inviting interior. The room we stayed in was immaculate and the hotel staff ensure that the attention to the smallest detail keeps guests feeling welcomed and well catered for. The evening meal was quite simply the best we have ever experienced and certainly the most beautifully presented. The other meals we enjoyed here (lunch and breakfast) were equally impressive, again with the attention to detail making it something special.

Our visit was in celebration of a big birthday, but we will certainly be returning in the future. Ater we booked, the hotel offered a special reduced rate for the bank holiday that we were staying, but the staff still arranged an upgrade to our room for no additional cost. We cannot thank the staff enough for a wonderful break, and the weather (warm and sunny in the Lakes!!!) only added to our enjoyment of this superb hotel.

Called here for lunch as wife was interested in the look of his hotel on the Internet. This really is a gem of a hotel overlooking lake Windermere in an ideal setting. Food and service here are top notch but I suppose you wouldn't really expect anything else. We sampled the burgers and fish on the menu all well cooked and presented (with decent chunky chips). And on hot plates. They also serve a decent Merlot. We came with a dog and ate outside. They even provided the hound with water and a bit of sausage from the kitchen.
The overall impression we got here is that the management and staff strive to give a tip top product and service and take pride in what they do. Anyway well done - we liked it a lot.

Excellent review of al fresco dining; probably one of the best spots in the Lakes to eat your lunch on a fine day. Many thanks for your very kind review.

Before writing my review I have had a little read of others... I can say that on the whole I agree with the majority but as another lady has commented I would disagree with the review which says that you need to be a middle aged couple with a 4x4 to get the best out of the Linthwaite. As a couple of 25 and 33, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We were a little apprehensive at first as our normal holiday is staying in self catering villas. We have never stayed in a hotel like Linthwaite before because we were afraid that we would not fit in and that we would be looked down on. However we were extremely pleasantly surprised. The reception staff were amazing! I could not fault them. They made sure we had everything we needed and when asked if we could have extra tea making supplies they were more than happy to help. The housekeeping staff did a thorough job of cleaning our room and re-stocking what we were low on. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the terrace on the second and the waiting staff were extremely accommodating. The food was of the highest standard and the setting was perfect. We felt comfortable and at ease the entire time. I hope that the staff at Linthwaite read this as I can not praise them all enough!! We have not stopped dropping references to our stay into conversation since we left you and we both agree that it was a real treat. We made the decision to stay in the UK due to my poor health at the moment and our stay at Linthwaite was definitely the silver lining. Thank you!

Brilliant!
Yes we do get a lot of people other than 4X4 drivers of a certain age, not that there is anything wrong with that of course.
Anyway I am delighted we made your first foray into the wonderful world of country house hotels and I'm glad we didn't put you off. In the early days of these type of hotels they were very stuffy, but now everyone realises that it's important to be unstuffy and relaxed, without of course forgetting about the quality!
We hope to be able to welcome you back again one day,

Mike Bevans

My husband and I stayed at Linthwaite House for 2 nights at the beginning of August. We stayed in a Preferred Double room which was clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated and had a lovely view of the lake. The hotel is a short drive from Bowness - close enough for easy access to the town but far enough that you can get away from all of the tourists. We had the four course dinner on the first night and they were able to give me gluten-free canapes and gluten-free bread to accompany my meal. They also gave me gluten-free toast for breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. In the evenings we drinking tea and reading in one of the sofas in the sitting room as we looked out at the lake. They also have a great DVD collection. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend Linthwaite House to anyone looking for a luxurious place to stay in the Lake District.

Fabulous! Gluten free requirement re more and more common these days, but it is still something we have to be extremely careful about. Well done to all the team at Linthwaite.

Come back soon,

I suppose you shouldn't moan about the narrow windy drive up to the hotel. It is after all in The Lake District and what do you expect. This was our third visit and we love the evening dinners. The first time I've had foie gras two nights running in England. Every single member of staff we spoke to was friendly and eager to talk. We particularly enjoy a pair of European vegetarians in the dining room. Other high points are breakfasts - which start with the friendly offer of a glass of fruit juice - and life on the terrace. We will be going back.
