“Beautiful location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

Stayed here a couple of months ago. Yes it is expensive, we did a double upgrade when we arrived because we were a little dissapointed in the basic room. That made all the difference, it was only for 1 night and we loved it, for us it is a location for a special occasion, unless you can afford it on a more frequent basis. The location is gorgeous, food was excellent and would go back without doubt.

The only thing i can fault is that we were told that the staff woiuld move our luggage from the first room to our upgraded room when it was ready, so we could go off and enjoy ourselves. When we arrived at our new room a couple of hours later we found that the door was wide open with all our possessions in there, including my laptop. We told the staff when we went down for our meal, and we got an apology it was human error, but what if any of our possessions i.e. my laptop had gone? I guess that would have then been my problem through no fault of my own.

Putting the human error of someone leaving the door wide open aside, it was special and we would go back.

Many thanks for the well balanced review.

Regarding the comment if your laptop had gone missing; in such a case, if we had left a door open, we would most likely have been liable because we would have been found to be negligent. If you had left the door open it would be your fault.

Happily in 22 years of owning the hotel, the only things that have actually been lost (despite a few accusations) have been the hotel's property! Yes, some sad people actually steal from hotels!

We hope to be able to welcome you back again one day and sorry for the mix up!

Stayed in the Loft Suite for the second time and it was perfect. The restaurant is AMAZING with a great wine selection and fabulous food which is beautifully presented. The food was so nice we didn't eat elsewhere and even stayed on for Sunday lunch. The gardens are beautiful and a stroll around the tarn is a great way to walk your lunch off. Views from the conservatory are stunning, making it hard to look away. The staff and management were very accommodating and made our stay special. The loft suite is gorgeous - two very good night's sleep - just perfect.

Room Tip: All of the rooms look lovely - just book and enjoy a wonderful stay.

Wonderful! Thanks for the great review. New Chef Chris really is being highly appreciated and scored a big 5 in the Good Food Guide just out. If only the AA would actually visit he might get his 3 Rosettes!
Thanks for taking the trouble to review us and we look forward to welcoming you backa again to the Loft Suite.

My husband and I were looking for nice peaceful, relaxing 2 day getaway and Linthwaite House provided that and so much more. It is luxurious, charming, non stuffy hotel in a perfect setting. The views of Lake Windemere and surrounding mountains are spectacular and the hotel even has its own tarn which we really loved walking around.

The staff was very attentive to all our needs and helped us with every little request. We stayed in the luxury lake view room and we loved waking up every morning with a view of the lake. Our room was very stylish and modern, especially the bathroom that looked like it was out of a magazine. The dinners are a must if you stay here. They are simply amazing and were the highlight of our day. My compliments to the chef. Every single meal was "perfection-on-a-plate"

We took walks around the property, walked to Bowness one morning and even managed to play croquet one afternoon in the lower garden at the hotel. What a wonderful, special hotel! We are from New York and we would definately go back to Linthwaite House again.

with a stunning setting at the top of a hill and its own tarn the linthwaite hotel has a great deal of charm. It has a lovely mixture of old and new,the bedrooms are very modern and stylishly decorated with a choice of natural feather or fibre pillows and a big comfortable bed. Then when you can tear yourself away from the room, you can enjoy a pre -dinner drink and canapes, which give you time to try and decide from a small but very tempting menu. Each course was so delicious we had to stop ourselves from making too many noises of enjoyment.the staff our lovely too, which makes for an informal relaxed atmosphere. We had thought to visit the lakes quite a few times over the next year and try a different hotel each time, but now think why?Linthwaite House hotel is goin to be pretty hard to beat.

Room Tip: Make sure you have the pre-dinner drink, the lovely conservatory where to sit while you choose your m...

We were staying at Linthwaite Hall for a wedding and had a fantastic time. We arrived just before 2 as had read we would not be able to get in before then. It was quite busy in the reception area but we were able to check in with no issues and were in our rooms by 2. The hotel is in a lovely setting and although it was raining for most of our stay it didn’t bother us too much as the atmosphere inside the hotel was just as nice. The wedding party had taken over the hotel so it was like a home from home. They day ran smoothly and staff were very attentive. The wedding breakfast was lovely and different including gin cured smoked salmon with tonic sorbet and chocolate tart with marshmallow foam. More food appeared through the evening and was very good. We didn’t get much time to spend in the rooms but we had room 6 which was spacious, with it being over reception and looking out on the putting green. It did get a bit noisy later on with people walking past to their rooms after the party had finished but I don’t think this would normally happen if a wedding wasn’t on. I liked the Molton Brown toiletries and water in the room was a nice touch. My brother had room 12 which was smaller than ours but OK. My Mum and Dad had room 21 the suite with an outdoor hot tub looking over Lake Windermere-it was amazing. Very spacious suite with a bath and separate shower and a TV at the end of the bath. We used the hot tub on a Monday morning and it was a lovely way to start the day overlooking Lake Windermere, hot tub was nice and warm too. We had a self-service buffet I presume as part of the wedding deal but a nice touch was being asked if we wanted a smoothie or fresh juice when we sat down, tea, coffee and toast with mini pastries served to you. Selection of fruit, yoghurt, preserves and cooked items was good although I do like cold meat and cheese but I think breakfast is usually cooked to order. Weather wasn’t very good but not much you can do about that! All in all a very enjoyable stay, we were on a deal with wedding but it looks quite expensive otherwise but if you want a treat I would recommend.

Room Tip: room 21 with hot tub was excellent

Ah so true! Thanks for the great review.

Yes, weddings can get noisy, that's why 99% of our weddings are exclusive use takeovers of the entire hotel.

Weddings don't mix with couples trying to have a quiet break. Anyway, the exclusivity thing works so much better for the wedding party.

No we aren't cheap, but neither is a top of the range spec BMW. You pay for what you get!

We hope to be able to welcome you back again,

Our 4 night stay at The Linthwaite was our second in the area and our first at this lovely hotel. The accomodation was very comfortable and peaceful, just what we were looking for. Dinner was delicious and the service was very attentive, we will definitely be back next year.

If you want a beautiful, stylish and relaxed venue for a wedding, anniversary, special occasion or just to treat yourself, look no further than Linthwaite House Hotel!
Alex and I got married here on 31st August this year. I won't bore you with all the details of our wonderful day, but will highlight why this place has the rightful No1 spot on tripadvisor in Bowness. (And in our opinion the UK)!

Accommodation - Loft Suite (room 31) Bright, airy, massive and beautiful! Done out in Duck Egg Blue with caramel tones with co-ordinating accessories and bedding. Huge bed with Egyptian cotton sheets. The bathroom has a massive oval freestanding tub, his n hers basins, walk in shower with waterfall shower head, Molton Brown toiletries and a TV in the wall to watch whilst you bathe!
There is a lovely dressing table with mirror, sofa coffee table, BOSE sound system TV's and a writing desk. There is also a fridge with fresh milk and water. Oh, and a massive telescope to watch the stars at night!

Food - Had supper from the Terrace menu night before our wedding, the choices are well balanced and something for everyone, from the unstuffy burger, fish n chips, steak and the Lamb with couscous which I can highly reccommend! The Breakfasts are amazing, it's so difficult to make your choice as everything sounds great, and tastes even better! The full Cumbrian breakfast was delicious, freshly cooked (no greasy self service buffet in sight)! The roasted plums were absolutely gorgeous and were great with the natural yogurt!
Our wedding breakfast was truly delightful, we had a choice of choosing from the menu, a seven course taster menu or dishes of our choice, we decided on a black pudding starter and Chateaubriand as our mains, pudding was chosen from the menu all of which was delicious!!
Wine and Champagne were perfect, the wine menu has a massive choice and a budget to suit most pockets. The really good thing is that there is a detailed description next to each wine to help you choose what style you prefer!
I also organised a secret Picnic in the Summerhouse next to the tarn which was amazing, the hotel will organise this for you (make sure you give plenty of notice) we had smoked salmon, cheeses, cold meats, crusty bread, salads and chutneys, washed down by a choice of red and white wine! (I've attached some photo's.)

Staff - I've kept the best to last!! Andy, Kate, Rebecca James and the full Team here makes this hotel not only beautiful but friendly, charming and un-stuffy!!
Here's the thing that amazed us...... on the day of the wedding, every member of staff, (most of whom we had never met before)! even the lovely gardener wished us well for our big day! How on earth did they all know?? This is what I call first class customer care!! James was an absolute star throughout the whole day, always there to ensure everything went to plan, thank you so much!
Thank you all at Linthwaite for making our day so special! Alex & Maria Witt.

Room Tip: For a romantic getaway, choose the Loft Suite (room 31)

Very many thanks for the amazing review.

We are delighted the wedding came up to expectations; we appreciate how important such a special occasion is for you.

We've done many weddings over many years and are constantly trying to improve on what we do.

We have many brides and grooms who return regularly as guests, which is very rewarding. We hope you will too!

Thanks especially for mentioning some of the team's names; without them we couldn't do it at all.

Kind regards and very best wishes from everyone at Linthwaite
