This place is relaxed, warm, friendly and comfortable. The service is A1 too. I had the seafood platter which was excellent and very fresh. It was also large, and a bigger appetite than mine would have been very happy. Loved the wood burner too.

Thanks for your 'wonderful' review of the Village Inn! We are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed the atmosphere and service. The wood burner is our favourite thing at this time of year - perfect to snuggle up in front of with some mulled wine!
We hope to see you again soon for some more great food!

we were spending a couple of nights in bowness and had wanted to try the village inn for a more traditional evening meal. our timing meant we arrived when it was quiet, the tea time rush had thinned leaving just a couple of tables seated.
overall the initial welcome and service was good and we were seated in a window seat at our request.
we ordered the gammon and rib-eye steak [rare and unseasoned]; both meals are pretty identical apart from the meat content.
a young girl brought out the gammon with no explanation that my steak was to follow.
she then brought out the 2 starters for the table adjacent and indeed then proceeded to deal with clearing others tables nearby. i then got my steak!
sadly to compound problems, on arrival the gammon was only luke warm; mushrooms and chips almost cold - so it was sent back.
the original hostess explained that the chef had seasoned my steak so had completely re-cooked my meal [not sure why a complete recook was required; having been in the trade a Rare steak is a chef's dream compared to well done - for 2 almost identical meals both under the pass; swapping out a rare steak - especially a ribeye that was on the thin side - should not have resulted in any major issues to the timing].
so i ended up eating my meal pretty much on my own whilst waiting for the gammon meal to reappear; not an ideal situation.
the hostess did apologise that the young girl hadn't explained the delay, citing that she was a new member of staff. this was apparent as she managed to clean and re-set a couple of tables, before noticing that the table adjacent had finished their starters; which can impact on the flow in a kitchen. however perhaps with some training these hiccups can be rectified.

we were pretty much left alone whilst eating [!] and at the point of clearing the table the hostess advised us that she had removed x2 drinks from the bill.
overall we perhaps were just unlucky ?

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We can only apologise that you didn't get your meals together. We are currently training new members of staff as over the season we had problems with staff so I have taken on a number of new staff which we are investing a great deal of time into training to ensure service is improved. The girl in charge should have kept a closer eye on this new member of staff which would have prevented the issue over the timing if your meals. The member of staff in charge that evening did explain the situation to me immediately after service and she thought she had rectified it through the gesture of the free drinks.
As I mentioned we are concentrating heavily on improving our customer service, and hope this experience does not detract from enjoying the Village Inn in future.

My husband and I ate here last week when on a 3 day break in Windemere. The food was amazing and completely blew us away as we were expecting it to be more 'pub' type food. The staff were really friendly and very efficient !! Word of warning ...... the portions are HUGE which sadly meant we couldn't fit in a dessert which we we gutted about as they looked amazing !!! Would definitely visit again and recommend !!!

Thank Mandy S

Mum only wanted a small plate of food so had a ham sandwich and chips but the rest of us girls had main meals . All different but all excellent. Was hoping to be able to fit a dessert in but too full. Thank you for a most enjoyeble meal and will definetly come again.

I was out with family and friends and we called at the Village Inn without booking a table. We were seated at a very large wooden table near the bar area by a helpful waitress. The menu is very good; lots to choose from and it's not expensive! Four members of our group ordered the gammon; it was really nice. Luckily we didn't order starters; the size of the main meals are huge! The beer is also good because they serve Peroni on draught. You could happily spend all day in the Village the service and atmosphere are great. Outside there is a large seating area with umbrella's and heat lamps; perfect for winter warmth outside.
