“Could have been better”

Just returned from a short break at the Bowness Bay Suites. First impression was good, although it is starting to look a bit tired (light bulbs out, wall paper peeling, wall scuffs). The room was decorated beautifully. The view was great. The location is fantastic. A great base for exploring the lakes.

There were a few things that let the hotel down in my opinion for the price. At breakfast only one piece of fruit was suplied per couple. After an 8 mile walk we returned to find that the bed hadn't been turned down and there were no fresh towels, leaving us to dry ourselves off with the damp ones used earlier. The heating system in our suite was very noisey, so much so, that we had to turn the heating off in the night to get some quiet.

Now, I appreciate these are only tiny problems, but for the price paid I expected a little bit more attention to detail.

Unfortunately for us the 'little touch of luxury' describes the decor and not the service or value for money.

My wife an I have just returned from a wonderful stay in the Buttermere Suite, which I can HIGHLY recommend.

The hotel is situated in the very heart of Bowness, just a few metres away from shops, restaurants, bars, and the lake front itself. Having said that, the locality is surprisingly quiet and feels relaxing.

The rooms are beautifully appointed and absolutely SPOTLESS. Full credit to all the staff as the rooms are very, very spacious and it must be hard work maintaining them to that exceptional level.

The beds are extremely comfortable and the continental breakfast served to your room is also to a predictably high standard and is plentiful.

The staff are also WONDERFUL-very professional but friendly and extremely helpful.

We are also a fan of Gilpin Lodge in Bowness but that accomodation is a few mins drive out of town and therefore you would need to drive in to Bowness. When staying in Bowness Bay Suites, you are in the middle of town (with free parking at the rear!) so can enjoy a glass of wine or beer in the charming, old pubs and soak up the atmosphere of the town.

I can't imagine visiting Bowness and staying anywhere else now. Great value and worth every penny! Thanks to the team for a great weekend.

We are a couple of fuss-pots who rarely book into hotels or guest houses because, well, we are fuss-pots! However, we booked Bowness Bay Suites for my husband's birthday break away after reading all the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, and were not disappointed in the least.

The main reason why we never book into hotels etc is because we have our own tourer caravan. We love it for the convenience of taking our own home away to lovely places with its own living area, bed, kitchen, gas fire and large telly, which Bowness Bay Suites managed to deliver but on a much larger scale.

The rooms are enormous, dual aspect with the bedroom looking over the pubs and shops in the centre of Bowness, and the living/dining area looking over the lake. What a beautiful sight to see every morning, especially when the lovely owner delivered your breakfast at 9.30 sharp with hot toast, croissaints, fresh coffee and fruit. The living area was so comfortable, clean and easy to relax in with it's huge telly on the wall, sofa, electric fire, fridge and brew making facilities. The dining table was positioned at the patio doors of the juliet balcony looking over the lake. Perfect.

The bedroom area was just as big and again very clean. The bedding was obviously fresh and very good quality. The ensuite bathroom had under-floor heating, again very clean and modern.

All in all there is nothing negative to say about Bowness Bay Suites, and the location was fantastic, right in the centre, as in 30 seconds from the centre of Bowness. For those who have never been to Bowness, why not?! It's a stunning little town with an incredible choice of excellent restaurants, bars, pubs, cafes and shops. We have been many times and love it, a very beautiful and friendly part of the world.

Just returned from a long weekend and all I can say is, "Go there, you would not be disappointed". From the minute we arrived, Marie made us very welcome, a few hicups were remedied quickly and effectively. We stayed in the Hill Top, views were excellent, room was pure quality and the breakfast brought to our room was a touch of genius. We have stayed in some five star hotels and this one is certainly one of the best. Thank you for giving us a really special weekend and WE WILL be back.

It was my wifes 30th and we had never been away for NYE so we looked around and decided on the lovely lakes of Windermere.
Next came the decision to stay in Bowness, the quaint little town with lots of shops, pubs and restaurants with easy access to all the lakes had to offer caught our eye.
We used trip advisor to look for some accomodation which followed a few emails to hotels and B&B's. We had replies from all but none were as quick or kind in content as the reply we got from Marie at the Bowness Suites. They had the Buttermere suite availble and gave us a very good rate, it sounded and looked perfect and based on the reviews I booked it!!

As I was planning my wifes 30th and NYE night I sent Bowness Suites several emails asking on places to visit and where we should book to eat etc as I had never been to this part of England. Answering our emails was no trouble at all for Marie and Alex who couldnt have been anymore polite or helpful - so refreshing to have personalised responses that sound as if they actually cared that we had the best of times during our visit.

Upon arrival our bags were quickly collected from our car and then I was shown where to park, this was just around the back - ample secure parking..great!

We were shown to our room which was of the highest quality I have seen anywhere. A lovely suite with everything you could wish for and 100% clean and tidy.
We had continental breakfast brought fresh to our room each morning at a time of our choice, it was delicious and the Buttermere actually looked out over the lake as we sat each morning to admire the views. The room was turned out and cleaned everyday, such a central location and was only 30second walk to the closest restaurant!! and 10 seconds to the nearest pub :O)

What made our stay extra special was the champaigne truffles and crackers left for us in our room on NYE, a lovely touch.

All I will say is that there appears to be many B&B type accomodation places in Bowness, but if you want a personal touch, ultra clean, ultra friendly room with the friendliest of staff then i wouldnt even look any further. We shall certainly be back very soon.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing for a luxurious break away. Our large suite, both lounge and bedroom, was beautifully furnished and absolutely spotless. I had a bouquet of flowers on arrival to go with our very warm welcome from Marie and the continental breakfast each morning was faultless. The price definitely reflects the high quality service we received and we will be booking our return stay in the very near future. A really lovely hotel

I stayed in this hotel before it was refurbished, and was mightily impressed before. Marie has always as good a host as you could wish for. Previously, it was more of a bed and breakfast of the old style, now it is simply stunning. The welcome is still as warm, and whilst the cooked traditional english has gone (shame) the continental breakfasts are marvellous as well. What about the suites? They are like the Tardis, far bigger on the inside than they look before you enter. Everything you could want is there and the attention to detail is a joy also.

It is fair to say that the stay is a little more expensive than it was previously, but we were more than happy with the price given that we would have had to pay similar, or in some cases far more, in the same location for far inferior accomodation. having stayed in Bowness a number of times, I have tried larger places, The Burnside, The Old England etc, and their rooms are vastly inferior to Bowness Bay Suites. As others have mentioned, you do get use of the excellent leisure club facilities locally as well.

I love Bowness as a location, so stunning and picturesque, and I will not be staying anywhere else form now on other than here.

Room Tip: I would book well in advance, they must get very busy indeed in the season. Luckily, the season in t...
