While not up there with the best Indian food I've had, this restaurant was delicious and we really enjoyed our meal here. I had a vegetable dhansak, channa aloo and garlic/chilli rice, all of which was excellent.
The staff were friendly and the food served in good time.
Only thing I would say is that the chutneys that came with the poppadums weren't hugely tasty and a little bland......

Starters:1 mixed starter, menu stated "lamb chop, chicken and fish.
1 lamb cutlet- mixture of spices barbecued.

We were served with. One plate of mixed grill with 1 lamb chop, 1 50p sized cube of chicken coated in red colour and no other taste and small 50p sized cube of plain salmon. Second plate with 2 lamb chops tasting the same as lamb chop from the other starter expecting the lamb cutlets to be different from the lamb chop.

The waiter first said the cutlets should have been off the bone..then changed it to they are different tastes but infact they were the same.

Main: 1 lamb jalfrezi(according to the waiter enough for 2)- literally 4 small cubes of lamb in a sweet sauce, not spicy jalfrezi and not enough for 2, expecially as we asked for it to be madras hot.

Garlic and coriander naan bread was sweet and not garlicky!

Chicken biryani was ok, but more of a chicken rice and not a biryani.

Whilst we were having dinner the waiters were on their phone on facebook and as we were sat opp the kitchen..we could also see the chef doing the same.

For some reason I didn't expect an Indian restaurant in Windermere to be that great (I associate the Lakes more with British 'fine dining' or fish n chips), but we had a superb meal here. We regularly eat at some great Indian restaurants, but this is one of the best curries I've ever had! A little different, exactly the right level of spice, extremely tasty! Staff were very friendly and made a fuss of our little boy. Would certainly go back.

We went to the Mela in June 2012, it was a good meal and enjoyed it so decided we would go again in Agust 13.

Wish we hadn't bothered! My hubby ordered a chicken chili masala got a lamb one. They were constantly lurking so they could get you to eat up and leave for the next customer!

never again
