We had originally planned to go to Windermere tonight, but as it was raining, decided just to stay in Bowness.
After looking carefully at every menu at every establishment in a 1 mile radius, we decided to go to You and Me (formally The Royal Tea Garden).
WHAT A MISTAKE!
I LOVE chinese food, I could eat it every day for the rest of my life. But not this chinese food....

The restaurant was really quiet, so this should have been our first warning (we were the second table of 2 on a Friday night at 7.15) - but we just figured it was because it was raining people were staying in.

We ordered the Mixed Combination starter, which had prawn toasts (2), spring rolls (2), spare ribs (2) and chicken satay (2).
Prawn toasts and Spring Rolls were certainly edible. The chicken satay was tasteless and the spare ribs were not soft and melt in your mouth as I have become accustomed to in chinese restuarants. However they were edible....

We opted for Fillet Steak in Black Pepper Sauce ( a favourite of mine) and Chicken in Thai Sauce.
The fillet steak was chewy, and the sauce tasteless. 2 nights ago we had the SAME dish in Windermere and the Fillet steak was melt in your mouth, like fillet steak should be. This fillet steak was tough and chewy.
The chicken in thai sauce COULD have been nice, as the sauce was really nice, but the chicken tasted off, never tasted chicken so bad.
The fried rice was tasteless, hard and not as much as you normally get for 2 people.

The staff were permanently laughing and texting on their phones. Gordon Ramsey would have flipped his lid.

For starter, 2 mains, fried rice and a bottle of wine it came to £51. We had a meal in Windermere in "The Golden Mountain" and for a comparable meal, it came to £34 and was absolutely delicious.

I would not go here EVER again, as the meal was stinking and overpriced.

I took my four kids out for an evening meal last week we were shown us to a nice table by the window. Taking all the kids is a rare treat for them as it can be expensive for a large family. but the staff were happy for the two youngest to share one meal and we thought the price was very reasonable. They also open lunch time so maybe we will give that a go next time we are in the lakes.

We Thought we were getting a deal as we are from Canada and everything costs so much in Britain because of dollar conversion. The 3 course dinner deal came with egg rolls with some weird meat in it that we couldn't figure out what it was, cornsoup that consisted mostly of corn starch and a pork dish that was obviously the cheapest cut of pork possible baen sprouts and what I am almost certain was HP Sauce. We left and went somewhere else to eat. A pricey lesson indeed!!!

We choose to eat here cause it didn't come up on my trip advisor what's nearby list, so I thought it hadn't been reviewed, whoops for not spending more time looking.
I always think its strange when theres no chop sticks about, but like the look of the menu.
Went for a set meal at £35 for the two of us, bottle of blossom hill white for £13 and two bottles of Chinese beers at £3 a pop!
Wine turned up without a cooler, on looking around they didn't provide coolers... Poor.
Crab meat sweet corn soup turned up, it was nice. But the porn crackers that arrived with it were greasy.
Next course arrived very quickly, which was the chefs combination of spring rolls, seaweed, sesame prawn on toast, spare ribs and skewered satay chicken. These were all greasy and tasteless, very disappointing, infact I'm still looking for the prawns on the toast.
Again the main meals arrived very very quickly, but here's the surprise, they all tasted very good, the satay beef, sweet and sour chicken and the king prawns with Ginger and spring onion, and young chow fried rice were all tasty, a big surprise after what it had followed.
Total time for meal, 35 minutes! Which us why they don't give out wine coolers as it doesn't have time to warm up!
If you thinking of going here, don't! Walk a bit further down the hill to the other Chinese.
