“Great views, lovely accommodation”
Reviewed March 30, 2014 via mobile

Stayed here for a weekend at the beginning of March with our dog. This was our second visit.

The location is great and the cottage had a lovely view of the marina. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. The cottage had everything we needed and was nicely decorated and furnished. The only negative was the wifi which was very patchy and we had a bit of difficulty finding a signal and connecting.

We would stay here again and look forward to our next visit.

We really enjoyed Grange Cottage for 5. We thought it was well equipped, clean and well laid out. Bowness is just a 10 - 15 minute walk which is pleasant both by the lake and also fine by the main road. We enjoyed the walk to the Spa and then later food at the Angel Inn. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed in the Marina Village with friends and had a fabulous time! The cottage, stayed at Rydal 25, was very comfortable and had ample space for six. The beds were comfortable and the house was very clean. It was complete with cutleries, cooking utensils, even a hair dryer was available! The views from the balcony was beautiful and it was awesome to watch the sunrise and sunset.
The only thing was the staff at reception was not all that welcoming and helpful. Being new in the area, we would have wanted to be given tips on where to go, good restaurants and good souvenir shops. The staff however mentioned that they did not live in the area so they really don't know. After that we did not bother to go to reception anymore.
We had a great holiday though, and I would surely recommend the Marina Village to friends.

A group of 6 of us stayed in one of the Marina apartments for 2 nights in January in order to attend a Wedding and reception at the Old England Hotel Windermere.

The location is a bit too far from Bowness town (in winter) but a taxi is ony £5 (even after midnight)

The accommodation was clean, well presented and had everything you could need.

We decided to give the on-site restaurant a try and to be honest I wasn't expecting much. BUT the staff there were very friendly, efficient and each one of our meals was of very high quality whether it was a steak or a rather special burger.

The 6 of us all agreed it was a very pleasant experience.

A huge apartment with parking - I'll give you that - but a bland, cheaply furnished flat is not my idea of luxury. It would have been nice to make a cup of tea when we arrived after a fairly long journey but there wasn't a tea bag or a coffee sachet to be found so we went to find afternoon tea at the widely publicised restaurant. No food in sight - so we had some coffee - they gave us a few smarties with our drinks - strange. We were booked in for dinner but as the so called restaurant had all the ambiance of a motorway service station so we cancelled. The " luxury" continued as we trekked to a deserted Bowness to buy some tea bags. The luxurious bathroom contained two little, mean bars of soap - nothing else. Bizarrely you could have brought a month's worth of laundry - there was a washing machine and a full size drier. There was also every conceivable cooking implement known to man but no teapot. The deck was lovely but we couldn't enjoy it because of the rain (no one's fault). The beds were really uncomfortable and my idea of luxury certainly doesn't include polyester and cotton mix sheets. Oh and the spa is 15 minutes walk away - not at the marina at all. Maybe it's good for families - but it left me baffled.

Thank you for taking the time to review Windermere Marina Village.
I am sorry the apartment did not meet your expectations. I would like to assure you that the furnishings are of a high quality, many are made locally of solid oak, but I accept they were not to your taste.
Your comments regarding The Boathouse will be shared with the team.
Our website does state that the Leisure Club & Spa are not on site, I am sorry that you were not aware of this before your stay.
Bowness is quieter in the winter months - a relief to many visitors, perhaps you would rather visit in the spring or summer when things liven up. I hope you will try the Lake District again at some point.
Regards
Tracii

We booked in on 30th December for 4 nights. We stayed in apartment 16, which has 2 bedrooms, an open plan kitchen and dining and a large living room. (The rooms are a little bland and in need of ornaments and things to dress them out a bit.) There is also a fabulous large decked area with a table and chairs to seat 6. The apartment was spotless, and well equipped. The only negative being we had travelled for 2 hours, and there was no tea or coffee - a nice touch would be an arrival pack of this and perhaps a small carton of milk. Our only other criticism was that there was nothing to clean the bathrooms or kitchens surfaces with - cloths were provided but not spray cleaner - this is only a small grumble though as we really thought the apartments were fabulous, and would definately consider booking again. We ate at the Boathouse and found the food to be very good and well priced. Our cafetiere was leaky and we reported this to reception - this was quickly replaced within a new one - great customer service. The extra 10% discount is a great idea. Its also great that you can use the pool at the nearby hotel. Altogether a brilliant time and would recommend others.
