“Apartment 18 – Fabulous”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

As you can see from my previous reviews i have been coming to Windermere Marina for some time now with my family and our regular cottage being number 13. Since the apartments have been built and only myself and my husband were visiting we thought we would give them a go.
Having been made aware via the website that there would be building work on site my husband looked into which apartment was the furthest away from this and it was apartment 18. We arrived an hour early and we were able to check in, parking for the apartment is right outside of the door and upon entry the apartment is spacious, warm (cottages can get really cold!) and with an ideal of view of the boats. (There was a comment on here which stated the view wasn’t too great as no boats were going in or coming out! The view is perfect from any point at the Marina, even more so as the boats were not moving. It is very quite apart from the noise of the little bells on the boats which i personally find very peaceful.)
Cottage 18 – main door, double bedroom to the right, bathroom further down the hall, then lounge/ dining area with open plan kitchen. Externally there is a large balcony with modern seating and perfect view. This apartment, other than number 17, is the furthest away from the building work and we never heard a noise.
As usual we took advantage of one of the few dry days in the week while we were there to use the small beach and BBQ area even though it was October (we roasted marshmallows)
Although there will be no new pool built on site you can use the facilities at the Old England hotel in Bowness. Having stayed at the Old England before i know their standard is extremely high and i think that this adds value to your stay. You also received 20% off your bill if you have a meal in the restaurant or coffee etc in the lounge which we took full advantage of. Although, as stated in a previous review there are no parking facilities at the Old England you can park for an hour or so near Costa Coffee and the surrounding streets for free and you can walk there within 15/20 minutes. This is a lovely walk through the boat yard and along the water that takes you to Bowness.
We will be visiting here again and mostly likely book this apartment should there be just the two of us. We did have people visit for one night as there is a sofa bed and the apartment states on the website that it does sleep 2-4 people. I would suggest for any length of time over 1 night that a bigger apartment/cottage would be more suitable for 4 people. You are also charged an additional £20 for bedding for the sofa bed – questionable, i know!!!!!
Just on one last note – our electricity bill was included in our price, if you are to stay in the cottages you are charged and additional amount at the end of your stay for this – not sure why exactly but it is worth checking this when you book.

Room Tip: Apartment 18, other than number 17, is the furthest away from the building work and we never heard a...

Have stayed here on numerous occasions in both cottages and apartments. Both are superbly furnished and balconies onto the lake are something else to take in with a nice glass of wine. Shame they don't have their own pool any longer, but the facilities at the Old England are excellent. Only criticism from a recent visit is that the sofa beds in the apartments are really uncomfortable for two adults. Have a superb quality meal out at Porto's restaurant or an even better rib-eye steak from Richardson's butcher in Bowness. Follow either the next morning with Richardson's sausages, bacon, black pudding and free range eggs for a full English - wow!

Room Tip: Pay extra for a two-bedroom - don't use the sofa beds in apartments. Pull down beds in cottages...

Stayed on our new boat which is moored at the WMV so this was our first visit. Despite the construction work which didn't affect us one little bit, we found the village to be excellent. The public bathrooms are impeccably clean with great facilities. The village is exceptionally clean and was lovely and quiet. We grabbed a breakfast at the hut on Sunday morning which was great but look forward to using the clubhouse facilities in the near future. We'll be celebrating a big birthday in our family over Christmas and were so impressed with the place that we're booking the apartments for us all to stay in.

What a wonderful place this is! We sayed in apt 17 right at the end of the block!
The apt had three big double bedrooms two of the rooms had one suites with the other having a bathroom separate! Plus another room with a toilet in. The main room was a kitchen livingston which made it fab to cook and still be able to talk to friends while doing this!
Absolutely fabulous - I could have lived here!!! We stated for three nights and could of state a lot longer!
Everything in the apt was finished to perfection- from the fab bedrooms to the balcony looking over the marina!
Lovely walk down side of lake ended up at bowness (10mins) good to walk off any pub grub during day!
Ventured out onto the board walk to have a good nose at the boats one of the days- was lovely to just choice out and relax.
Anyone who is thinking of staying here- do it!!!! Wouldn't find anyway better for the price u pay!!!

Stopped from Friday to Monday in october and were very lucky to have beautiful weather. Perfect location with a lovely walk to bowness. We stayed in cottage number 21 and for two couples it was perfect two double bedrooms with one ensuite and a bathroom that linked to the other bedroom. Lots of space to cook and socialise so for us was perfect over a b&b where the costs of eating out etc add up. We took advantage of using the spa and pool at the local hotel and it was very nice. Having a swim looking over onto windemere was lovely!
Our dvd didnt work but within half an hour of reporting the fault we had a new one fitted.

One thing that i wish the marina would look at are the check in and out times 4pm to check in was late and to be out at 10am means you only have two full days in the cottage. I understand they have to clean them all but most hotels/b&bs are check in 3pm check out 12

Thanks for taking the time to review Windermere Marina Village. I'm really pleased you and your friends enjoyed your stay with us.
The presentation and cleanliness of our properties is a top priority and we do need the 10am until 4pm window to maintain our high standards across all our cottages and apartments. However, you can book a guaranteed early check-in ensuring your property will be ready for you at 2pm; there is an additional charge for this service.
Our customers are more than welcome to register early and leave us a telephone number so we can let them know as soon as their property is ready. We will always do our best to get you in as soon as we can.
We hope to welcome you back to Windermere Marina Village again soon.

We recently stayed for a week and I have summarised the positives and negatives
Positives
Pleasant reception staff at check in
Apartment nicely furnished with new oak furniture in bedrooms and modern bathrooms
Nice view and sitting out balcony
Apartment Cosy and warm and very clean
Very comfy beds with good quality bedding
Negatives
We had a hen or stag party next door to us and the racket from a Saturday night party was awful. Note that these apartments are let to all male or all female parties so it's a risk you run. We reported this next day to reception who seemed fairly disinterested and said there was nothing they could do- no apology which was disappointing
The view over the Marina in October in more of a view over a boat storage area as it's wall to wall boats most covered with tarpaulins for the winter. We never saw a boat move during our week there.
The shower pressure from Mira electric showers was poor
There is only one small tv in the lounge which is portable sized and far too small for the size of the lounge
The swimming pool is not being rebuilt and while you can use one a couple of miles away it has no parking so makes a swim visit tricky
The landscaping around the apartments in a bit scruffy
There was major building work on site and although the notice to builders asks for no noise before 9.30 we were wakened most mornings at 8 by hammering and banging
Our biggest shock was bring charged £42 for electricity in a week that was mainly sunny and warm and needed almost no heating. Lord knows what kind of bill you'd get for a frosty winter week so be warned. For some strange reason you are not charged for electricity if you stay five nights or less so my advice would be only to do a short break to avoid hefty charges
I feel we paid too much given the noise from building work and the disturbance from a party and the fact that the apartments have no washing machine
It was an ok week and the apartments may be more scenic in the summer when the Marina has some life about it
My advice would be make sure you know what you're renting, what additional charges you will have and how building work will impact on your break
We had an ok week but are unlikely to book a repeat visit

Overall we had an ok week but it's overpriced for what you get

Room Tip: As far away from building work as possible

Thank you for taking the time to review your Windermere Marina Village cottage. I am pleased you found the property well furnished and cosy, your additional comments have been forwarded to the relevant departments for their appropriate attention.
I am sorry you were disturbed by your neighbours. Although we do accommodate the occasional group, disturbance is rare. Our on-site security guard would have been happy to address the noise, the telephone number can be found in the guest information.
I do hope you consider Windermere Marina Village again in the future.

Our apartment ( no 25 ) at the Windermere Marina Village was a special place to stay because:

It had a luxurious feel to it ( especially the bathrooms ).
The view of the marina was inspiring to see on rising in the morning.
It was very spacious and modern
There were three bedrooms and 3 bathrooms so everyone had their own bathroom.
It was well equipped.
It was near to the attractive town of Bowness-on-Windermere.

Downsides to the accommodation:

There weren't any really but we were surprised that the 3 bed apartment only had the one television!

The construction work was a bit of an eyesore but as we stayed at a weekend there was thankfully no noise.

All in all I would recommend the Windermere Marina Village apartments and I hope to return there one day.
