Arrived at night...woke to find a stunning location (windy & rainy, but non the less) with first class interiors. Huge lounge, bathrooms lovely, a kitchen better than mine.

Perfect base for outdoors/walking weekend or total relaxing on the massive soft leather sofas

Will be returning for sure

After staying at the Lancaster House Hotel one night last November, we went for a drive along Windermere and decided to stop and have a look at the Marina at Bowness. We spotted the sales office so enquired about availability etc, as we wanted to stop somewhere for a weekend prior to Christmas for my wife, son, daughter and their respective partners to spend some quality time together. We stopped in one of the cottages which slept 6 people. The two bedrooms were really comfortable, both being effectively en-suite and the pull down double bed in the living room was ideal. The furnishings and overall layout of the cottage were excellent, with close attention to detail and superb finish. The upstairs living room with patio door to the balcony provided a stunning view over the Marina. Everything was provided for a superb stay, and we felt at home as soon as we arrived there. Bowness is only a 15-20 minute walk and there are plenty of shops to see and places to eat. There’s even a small Tesco for anyone self catering. All six of us would love to return, and this really did make our Christmas this year. Can't wait to go back!

Have stayed at Windermere Marina Village 20+ times over the years (the cottages used to be Timeshare). It is a great place to stay and the accommodation (both the cottages and apartments) are furnished / fitted out to a very high standard. Some of the original cottages (up to about number 17 I think) are a little on the small side inside, but this is not a problem unless you plan to have the maximum number of people staying there. The second pahse of cottages (number 18 onwards) are all about 50% bigger inside.

There is (or will be by next Easter) an on-site pool & bar / restaurant (both were present before, but the building has been demolished & is being rebuilt).

Bowness on Windermere is a leisurely 20min walk from the Marina and there is a wide range of places to eat here, all at pretty good prices. Roberto's on Bowness (reviewed on Trip Advisor) is a favourite of mine. If you are happy to drive from the Marina to eat out, then there are more good pubs & restaurants in the area than I can mention.

The only complaint / negative comment about the Marina Village is the electricity charges - they should include these in the cottage / apartment rental. The Marina Village have done their homework on electricity charges to see exactly what they can and cannot charge. It is illegal for them to charge the guest more than they pay for the electricity - so you pay a normal (or fairly competitive) price for the electricity you use. They can, however, add on whatever daily charge they like for providing the electricity supply to the cottage / apartment, so they charge about £1.50 a DAY just for the convenience of an electricity supply. At one time, electricity charges were (or are) included in the rental cost for weekend or short breaks, but not for week-long rentals - why?!

Thank you for taking the time to review Windermere Marina Village, I am pleased that you continue to enjoy the accommodation.
Our policy for electricity charges has recently been reviewed and we have incorporated the charges for a large portion of the year into the cottage rental tariff for all breaks.
Thanks again for your comments I will ensure they are communicated to the management team.
We hope to welcome you to Windermere Marina Village again soon.
Warm regards
Tracii

From the warm welcome by the friendly, efficient and informative receptionist to entering our spotless and well heated cottage our whole stay was excellent and good value for what we paid. We stayed at Grange Cottage quite close to the entrance and the main road but noise was not a problem as it is some distance from Bowness which to some would be a negative but suited our requirements as we enjoyed the 15 minute walk in, especially at night by the side of the lake (a torch comes in very handy) The cottage was well equipped throughout with quality utensils, furnishings and decor including a superb mural of Lake Windermere on the lounge wall. Our party of six found the sleeping accommodation to our satisfaction especially my wife who has walking difficulties but appreciated the upstairs en suite twin bedroom. We made good use of the spa facilities at the Old England Hotel and found the times for children to be very generous (10am to 7pm) unlike the restrictions at some other hotels I have stayed at. It will be interesting to see what happens in future at WMV, the shop is closing permanently and there appears to be no sign of building work on site as I understand a club and swimming pool is planned but whether this happens or not I would predict that most people would have an enjoyable stay in these bright and modern cottahes and apartments, the only downside was that due to the cold weather it was not appropriate to sit out on the balconies though that gives us an excuse to return in the summer.

Room Tip: Grange Cottage is excellent for families and older people who can sleep on separate floors

We stayed here about a year ago (only just utilised Tripadvisor!) but the apartments were very modern and to our taste. We had an apartment overlooking the marina with two bedrooms, one en-suite, with a gorgeous shower!
The pool was disgusting - a strong word but no other can be used here. Unclean, unloved na d untouched. We used it once, and not again!
Not much to do if your staying for a long time, but lovely for a couple of days

We paid £920 for '7 days' at one of the Rusland cottages... Check-in is 4pm, check-out is 10am, not quite 7 days in my book. Despite this high cost for an unserviced cottage, the WMV believe in charging for 'extras', such as electricity! We were charged for electricity, even though we ate out every night and didn't spend much time in the cottage. I was helpfully told they receive lots of complaints about these charges. A filthy high-chair was provided, with stains on the straps and crumbs on the seat, and we were charged £5 for the pleasure. Washing machines are in a separate block and coin operated. The marina village store does not sell a wide range of anything, contrary to the claims on the WMV website. If a pot noodle followed by powdered custard is your idea of fine dining, this is the store for you. A burger van is the only other facility available on site.. otherwise it's a 20 minute walk into Bowness on Windermere. We will not be coming back.
