The atmosphere as you enter was very welcoming. The menu was interesting and varied. The food was delicious. All this at a very reasonable price. We will be back.

we had a lovely meal at Jacksons, food excellent and staff cheerful and efficient. The restaurant was recommended at our hotel and it lived up to its reputation.

This is the 2nd time we have been to Jacksons in the last 3 years. The food and wine is excellent, it has a nice atmosphere and is always busy, the service was a little slow but the waitress explained they had sent another waitress home sick. The menu has excellent choice and so does the wine list. Overall excellent!!

We had a weekend in Bowness as a special treat. We did not book but we're able to get a table for 2 and were pleased as people were turned away after we sat down at our table. Oh, how we wished we had been 5 minutes later through the door!
It took a while to get a drink, it was really busy and to be fair, we were comforted by this. We eventually ordered our starters, simple prawn cocktail and scallops for the other half. These were beautifully presented and tasted delicious. We then waited, and waited.......and waited for our main course. By the time it arrived we had already drunk the bottle of wine ordered to have to accompany our dinner and felt obliged to order another!
I had cod loin. DO NOT ORDER THIS. It was disgusting, it tasted like frozen lumps of cod. It was not a loin. It was served on a bed of cold mash and the only way I can describe it is disgusting. To be fair to the overworked waiter he did ask if it was ok, but was so rushed off his feet he didn't push the fact that it was left on the plate. The waitress disclosed that several members of staff had gone home sick, by the standard of food I was served I'm hoping to get through the night!
We were so very disappointed, both by the service and the standard of food, that we did not have a desert.
Will not return, very disappointed and feel like we paid for a meal that just was not worth even half of what we paid, however, typically English, we couldn't bare a scene.
My advice is to avoid at all costs.
To the manager I would say... If you haven't got the staff, don't fill the restaurant.

as a fairly regular visitor to the area and this bistro, I cannot believe there are negative comments on here. this should be the no1 place to eat in Bowness. the food is always excellent and I have always found the staff to be utterly professional and courteous at all times. The owner has a little gold mine here, the few people who have complained about a wait for food should realise that a small wait is to be expected (and it is a small wait) when it is obvious that the food is fresh and cooked to order, if you want an instant meal try macdonald's not Jackson's but if it's quality you prefer then give this place a try you won't be disappointed. I have travelled here with many friends over the years and have introduced them all to the food here and all have returned here on their own visits this says it all really.
