We stumbled across this Bistro when one of the other restaurants was closed that we wanted to go to for my birthday so wanted something a little special, we therefore thought we'd give it a try. We were given an option of where to sit which was great as we wanted a window seat, which was set up quickly for us. We had the steak and salmon which were very good, although we both wished we had a bit more of each as the portion sizing was a little small. For dessert I opted for the chef's selection which comprised 4 mini desserts, this was especially good and I would definitely recommend if like me you cannot make up your mind when choosing desserts! The staff were attentive and friendly, would dine here again if we were visiting

We ate here on a previous visit to Bowness an thought we would try it again. Both times the service and the food has been very good. Also ate at the Porto restaurant after reading reviews on trip advisor and although the food was good this place has a better atmosphere

My husband and I ate here on a saturday night during a weekend away in Windermere. The atmosphere was calm and the service was great although we were not offered any butter with our bread it was not a problem. I had the green lip mussels to start which were delicious and my husband had the chicken livers, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We then had the steak in stilton sauce and chicken with parma harm for main, again both gorgeous. We finished with grand marnier & orange cheesecake (served in a cute little pot) and the hot chocolate brownie (so soft and gooey). We were not rushed and lingered over our meal without being pushed out (makes a nice change from other places where you feel you are on a timer to eat and leave). Andrew (the owner) came and asked us if we had enjoyed our meal, which was a lovely personal touch and made us both feel special.

We would both definitely eat here again when we are in the Lakes and both my husband and I cannot recommend it enough. A nice relaxed restaurant with beautiful beams downstairs and smashing food. We will be back!

The restaurant was fairly quiet so we couldn't understand how the chef could mix up mash potato with what should have been a butter bean cassoulet. We should have had scallops with the fish as well instead we got tiny prawns in sweet chilli sauce yuck!! We asked the waitress if the dish had been changed from the specials menu but she apologised saying the chef had got the dishes mixed up. Sorry to say we won't be back and if this is how they operate on a quiet Tuesday night it doesn't bode we'll for the rest of the season.

Have eaten here on several occasions over recent years and will not be returning. My son and I ate here on a Sunday evening a couple of weeks ago. The place was virtually empty and not at all busy. The food was ok - ish nothing special, but my son found two dark hairs in his sauce. He ate around the hairs as he didn't want a fuss and when the waitress collected the dishes she asked if everything was ok. We mentioned the hairs and she offered to get another meal which we didn't want however an apology would have been nice. They did knock the price of the meal of the final bill but didn't mention it. The worst part of the meal was the foul mouthed older chef who we could hear shouting for one of the waitresses who had gone down stairs. His language was disgusting and when one of the waitresses said him to keep his voice down as the customers could hear he shouted he didn't give a xxxx about the customers!!!! Says it all really.
