Good was generally good, but disappointed when the bread was served, cheap stale supermarket sliced bread. Not living up to the rest of the menu. Opted for main menu, and food was good, and served promptly. Service was average, and atmosphere lacking towards the end of the meal, mainly due to waiting staff calling on each other from the top/ bottom of the stairs.

Myself and a friend were in Bowness for the evening, and we decided to dine at Jacksons, as we couldn't recall the last time that we had eaten there. Wisely, we booked a table for 7.30pm as it was quite busy when we arrived. We were greeted at the door by a happy looking member of staff who seated us at a window table in the upstairs section. The wine list was very extensive, and grouped into price brackets, so there is something there for all tastes & wallets. As we had looked at the menu before we booked we already had an idea that we were going to have steak, so we decided on a bottle of the Pinotage, which was rather tasty, and a great accompaniment to our meals. We decided on the 3 course inclusive menu at £16.95 per person, which proved to be excellent value for money.

To start we had the Cajun spiced pancake & The stuffed mushrooms. Both dishes were a generous portion and very tasty, and we were offered sliced brown or white sliced bread with our starters which I thought was a bit strange and I would have preferred a bread roll.

For our main course we both had the sirloin steak which is on the inclusive menu for a £3 supplement. Both steaks were cooked to our liking, and were accompanied by an al dente vegetable selection and a peppercorn sauce. My friend asked if he could have a bowl of chips and was told no, so you have been warned that they don't serve them.

For dessert we both had sticky toffee pudding which was excellent and just enough to finish our meal.

I would highly recommend this restaurant to couples or groups of friends, not sure about families with young children as I couldn't see any children's options on the menu.

In the Lakes last week-end and lucky enough to vist Jacksons. Our party opted for the 3 course set menu which offered plenty of choice - steak well worth the small supplement.
The food and wine were excellent as was the service. Staff were all really friendly and helpful.
Overall excellent value and couldn't be faulted.

We enjoyed a fantastic meal for four. Wonderful seafood and not a crazy price tab either. Great wine list with good value options. Recommended to us by a friend and we will always go here for a meal when in the area. Make sure you book or you probably won't get a table!
