Sorry I'm a bit late reviewing our stay which was in September 2012. We had previously booked for May but on arrival I fell and broke my arm, ended up in hospital so never got to stay. Emma was fantastic and very helpful. So we booked again for our 2 night stay and it was perfect. The bedroom was very light and airy with a very comfy bed and the views were lovely. Breakfast was superb and Emma couldn't do enough for you. The weather was perfect and we had some lovely walks followed by some lovely evening meals at the Cuckoo Brow (best to book) and the Tower Bank Arms. Both pubs had very good menus and were within walking distance. My tip is to take a torch for walking back from the pub.

We stayed here for 3 nights as a special birthday treat for my partner and myself. We arrived quite late but were happy to find our key and a welcome note from the owners. We stayed in room 1 which was lovely, tastefully decorated and very clean. The bed was very comfy and had a good quality duvet and pillows. The ensuite was fine too with a large shower cubicle. The view from our room was spectacular, looking out over the hills and water. It was worth staying here for the views, peace and tranquility alone! It felt like the middle of nowhere and was so peaceful but all the local amenities were only 10 min drive away. Breakfast was also delicious with a full english and plenty of cereals, juice etc. Yes it is served quite early which after a late night wasn't ideal but to be honest it was great to get us up and out. No point in going away if you are just staying in bed! Be warned if you don't like windy roads and are coming from the south its probably best to avoid coming up on the west side of the water. Go up the east side and cross over on the windermere car ferry. From there it is only 5 mins drive to hawkrigg. We did however see many deer, sheep, pheasant and bunnies on the windy road so worth it if you can cope with the narrow twists and turns! We would definitely recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Room 1 has 4 poster bed and panoramic view over the hills and water.

Visited with my husband for two nights and absolutely loved it. We reached very late at night and found keys left out for us. The room was warm which was lovely considering The cold weather. The room was ok a home from home adventure. Cooked Breakfast was fine too the only negative would be the time given for breakfast which is 8.30-9 too early for some like me although owner was accommodating and prepared us breakfast at 9. also the breakfast room is a squeeze but accommodating. The b&b had the most lovely views and very close to the ferry. I Would love to return during summer with my boys.

We stayed at Hawkrigg in December 2012. It is a gorgeous little b and b and the setting is picturesque and the scenery is stunning. We actually saw 2 doe and a stag in the garden one night! It's a real taste of the lakes and is so peaceful. It is a relaxed and trusting enviroment, the key is left for you with a welcome and all the info you need. The room was gorgeous, modern decor yet welcoming and classy. Myself, my husband and our toddler were in room 4 and they provided a travel cot for the room. The room was of a good size and spacious even with the cot up. the big windows made a light and scenic room and at night the heavy curtains and well heated room kept us cozy. This room is not en suite but we had our own bathroom for room 4 with a bath which was great for a little one so didn't mind. The other rooms are all en suite though. The breakfast was great and as our family is vegetarian they made special efforts to accomodate us and got veggie sausages for us. The garden has a slide and swings, benches etc. Our daughter loved the slide! In summary we had a brill stay and I would recommend it. We have stayed before and look forward to our next stay.

Room Tip: All rooms lovely. Room 4 has seperate bathroom with a bath (great for little ones)

Just returned from a 3 day break staying at Hawkrigg, it really is everything a b and b should be. Great beds, great breakfast, great views and very friendly owners. Could'nt fault anything, we were in room two which has a great view over windermere, the room was very clean and well decorated. The bed was really comfy and the en suite was also very good. The full english breakfast was lovely and really sets you up for the day. Just down the road is a lovely pub, The Cuckoo Brow, we ate there every night and the food and beer were great. Hopefully we will get to stay at Hawkrigg again in the future and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the lake district.

Having just returned from our first visit to Hawksrigg 17,18,19 October 2012, it certainly will not be our last. A quick decision for a short midweek break to the area, we found what can only be described as a piece of tranquill paradise. Booking in time was 2pm however we arrived some 2 hours early and found to our delight that our room was ready and Emma our host waiting to see us settled in. We were allocated to room 4, lake view, a bed which made you feel at home, and a very delightful large bathroom some 3 steps across your landing. Whoever Marshyn is from a previous review was obviously having a bad day!!!! or blind. The room was immaculate in every aspect, taste, cleaniness, view, warmth, and decoration. The view was superb, with a herd of deer some 300 metres away grazing, every morning what a way to draw back the curtains. The hospitality was 100% throughout. The breakfast and service was outstanding, the portions as much or as little as you wanted. The area around the Hawkrigg was beautiful, local pub afew minutes walk, windermere ferry 10 minutes walk. Judy, who is Emma's mum also went beyond being a host, we had our pet Lurcher with us and she was made as welcome if not more than we were, with nice doggy treat throughout her stay. The garden is perfect for your dog as is the field Emma gave us for a quick exercise between excursions out. A perfect base for exploring from. The breakfast room is bright and great for meeting other residents with loads of room. We will definately be going again. Two little things to take a bathrobe for the 3 steps to your bathroom and a torch for the dark road from the pub. Excellent stay and would recommend this to anyone.

Steve, Andrea and Flo.

Room Tip: Get Room 4 - great views, seperate bathroom only 3 steps across landing. Take your bathrobe.

I must have been staying in a different place to where a lot of other reviews have written about.
When my partner and I arrived there was no body there to greet us and no key left for us, after trying to call the number on the website for half an hour without anybody answering the phone, we decided to go to the local pub for some warmth and food. We told the bar person our situation and they said Emma the owner and her boyfriend were sitting in the corner drinking, we were not very happy and just walked out and went into hawkshead. We came back 2 hours later and there was a key and note left for us welcoming us. We were in room 4 of the 4 rooms that are let and the only one with no ensuite, the room was damp and cold ,wallpaper peeling off, stains on the carpet etc breakfast was ok but breakfast room very small and cramped. We were booked for 2 nights but only stayed for 1 it was so disappointing. We won't be going anywhere near there again.

Room Tip: There are four rooms, don't choose room 4
