“great food and family friendly too”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

Stumbled across this place when looking for lunch and it was a great find. The sun was shining and we were able to eat outside. Ordered the roast dinner for everyone and the kids proclaimed that it was the best roast dinner they had ever had. It was good value for money too.

“Well!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

My Partner and I dined here a couple of years ago and were really looking forward to our meal as we were really hungry. When our meal came it was less than a childs portion and the price of it was well lets just say daylight robbery. We have not been back here since

“Fairly good food; poor presentation; comedy service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2012

So. Menu looked good. We walk through the open door marked "Restaurant". Hung around for a few minutes, noting one other couple eating. Eventually we walked through to the bar and asked if we might have a table for two, passing about 10 empty tables on the way, some apparently reserved. The waiter seemed unsure. "I suppose, so", he muttered. "Are you sure?", I asked. "Yeah, yeah - hang your coats out there". He carefully pushed a reserved sign aside as he seated us behind a pillar.
I could go on; but here are the highlights and lowlights:
Positives first:
Food was good (except for one item and one minor reservation - see below); Vegetables were perfectly cooked; baked Camembert was aptly gooey; Fillet steaks were good quality and cooked exactly as requested.
Areas for improvement:
A whole camembert for one person? It would happily serve four! Together with two mini french sticks this was not so much a starter (as billed) as an entire meal. (Minor reservation)
Ham hock terrine with NASTY CHEAP TOAST. And no butter :-( ... until after I waved and shouted (literally!) frantically to attract the waiter's attention after several minutes of avoiding my eye.
Mid-starter the candle ran out. This really shouldn't happen unless you are too stingy to replace the tealights each night; or haven't thought to light them as you seat people, rather than light the lot mid-afternoon. A new candle arrived after I left it pointedly at the end of the table.
Vegetables were served muddled together in a serving dish... but nothing to serve them with. Perfectly cooked; shocking presentation.
We opted for coffees rather than desert and asked for a taxi to be called. It nearly didn't come as the waiter declined to ask us where we wanted to go (we could overhear the conversation).
When the bill arrived, it was pretty incomprehensible, with some random numbers on a piece of paper and a total at the bottom. As it added up to a little less than expected, I opted against creating a fuss.
Thankfully nothing was quite bad enough to upset us seriously, but rather provided amusement value.
Oh, we noticed that none of the reservations had been taken up as we left.

“lovely family meal”

Within 5 minutes walk from the Macdonald hotel (turn left from the entrance and its on your LHS), it was a friendly family restuarant with very good food.

Price was reasonable and i would highly recommend
