“Love this place!!!!”

Me and some of my friends have stayed here several times now, we love the quite surroundings which make it the perfect relaxing break. The cottages are gorgeous, with everything you need. Whetherby is not too far away to pop out for a look around the shops and a nice lunch. Staff are really helpful and it's excellent value for money..... We'll be back again on the 31st of October!

We got married at The Priory 10th August 2013. It was the perfect place for us to marry and celebrate. Serena is a class act when it comes to weddings - she had everything under control ( my step mum and I even caught her replinishing tea lights to keep the ambient lighting going into the early hours of the morning at the reception)!!
As a venue The Priory worked perfectly for us for a whole host of reasons - its peaceful, relaxed, well maintained, historical and classy - just what we wanted.
We tried several other local wedding venues ( who shall remain nameless!). In terms of attention to detail, flexibility and overall customer serivce etc, nobody comes rempotely close.
ALL of our guests commented on how beautiful the venue was and how they would love to come back as holiday guests.
I can not recommend The Priory enough if you are considering it for your wedding venue :) We had the prefect day, in the perfect place. Mr & Mrs Haigh!

A few tips I would recommend:
-dont come overloaded with food etc as the local pubs and farm shop are great for getting to know the area and to also buy local ( the Fox & Hounds and The chequers Inn are fabulous).
- If you are marrying here come and stay for a night beforehand so you get a feel for how relaxing and peaceful it is & take a look around all the cottages to work out which one works for the bride and which one for the groom!!
- For additional wedding guests we'd recommend the local Mercure Hotel - they were very helpful in giving us an allocation of rooms at a reasonable rate.

These cottages are well located between York, Leeds and Harrogate.

We got off to a bad start. We arrived at 3.15pm and no one was available. I found the Cleaner who genuinely tried to be helpful in broken English. She couldn't find Serena or her father and the office was closed. Luckily I had a plan of the cottages (in situ they are numbered not named) and I found the key so let myself in.

Initial impressions were that the cluster of cottages looked pretty from the outside but that the cottage was a bit shabby. The kitchen is nicely designed but has been a bit knocked about, whilst the lounge carpet could do with a clean; previous guests have not treated it well. Upstairs was much better than downstairs. The beautiful chaise long had a broken leg so was lopsided - so we let the lighter children sit on it! I imagine that when the cottage was first finished that it looked amazing and to be fair, we slept well, the electrical equipment worked well and the kitchen was well stocked with all the equipment you need.

I hadn't noticed that our cottage was not described as having open views - this meant that our views included the car park and a fire escape. Everyone who comes into the complex walks past (and looks into) the lounge. The garden was fine but we couldn't eat outside because the garden furniture was dirty and had some impressive fungus growing on it.

We had children with us and found that the courtyard was unsafe for them because the steps have loose fairy light cables over them and there was a loose hosepipe into the water feature.

By the time we left we still hadn't seen the owners - so we left the key in the door on our way out.

I think this is primarily a wedding venue that rents out the cottages as side line during the week.

This is the most stunning place I have ever stayed at, it is very picturesque and a hidden gem in Yorkshire. The cottages are done to an amazing high standard and it is certainly a 5 star venue. The cottages are family run and are so well organised and highly professional staff. If its a holiday or a wedding I would highly recommend staying here as definitely the best place we have ever stayed.

A wonderful wedding, followed by a great nights sleep. The cottages are luxurious and the interiors are simply splendid. The venue is very pretty in the evening and highly romantic. It has an enchanting, magical and mischievous feel to the place. It's also great fun to stay in a group and the cottages feel ver cosy.

We have just stayed in one of the cottages as our good friends got married at this venue this weekend. All of them are slightly different, but all beautifully done. Ours was called Isabella and had a lovely French Country theme.
The beds were comfy, the kitchen was well equipped and it was just a fantastic set-up for the wedding which was literally next door!
The dog was made very welcome too - he loves a weekend away!
As a wedding venue it was just what our friends wanted - an intimate ceremony in picturesque surroundings then a bigger after party which was based in the marquee attached to the back.
Highly recommended- we hope to visit again sometime!

Room Tip: If you have a dog then request a cottage that backs onto the fields - perfect to open the patio door...

First class properties in wonderful location.Perfect for York, Harrogate and Yorkshire Dales.

We only live 45 minutes away but it felt like a world away and we would stay again without hesitation.

Nothing was too much trouble, even when the property was very cold, the weather was very bad, the owners came straight out with heaters for us.

Lovely home from home.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
ion: We have 7 newly built cottages, which are architecturally in keeping with the Priory, which is believed to have been built around 1160. We have named the Cottages after the Prioresses who ruled the Priory until the dissolution of the monasteries around 1536 when it had 12 nuns in residence. The building and estate was then bequeathed to Robert Tempest by King Henry VIII and is now a working farm.Creating a new complex of cottages, courtyard gardens, preserving a barn and a Priory has been a challenge but a worthwhile one as we are sure that you will appreciate the peaceful ambience that exists amidst a fascinating mixture of ultra modern amenities, contemporary furnishings and historical artefacts and architecture. All accommodation is professionally designed and each cottage is individually styled within a different theme. They are beautifully appointed to an extremely high standard with quality contemporary furnishings and close attention to detail. Each kitchen is fully equipped with every modern convenience, including electric and microwave ovens, ceramic hob, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and ironing facilities. ... more   less
