After reading all the hideous reviews I was regretting booking the Riviera w/o reading the reviews first. However I was pleasantly surprised. Initially when i bked i thought i booked a family room but on arrival i was told there are no family rooms so im unsure what couples do if they bring their very young kids ?? Anyhow my son & i had to share a bed much to his dismay but fortunately it was a 6ft & very comfy it was. The room was adequate with a large tv & a wall heater which we were grateful for as the nights are getting much cooler. The power shower was good & hot. Everything was spotless. Domestic staff helpful with giving us more of what we had run out of. The hotel is being refurbed at the moment & all the doors are being replaced imminently. It was lovely to be able to use a pool/sauna in November, the pool wasn't warm nor was it cold - just pleasant to swim in. Only complaint - the floor tiles on the steps down to the pool are missing & could prove dangerous if you don't walk slowly. Also theres quite a few mosaic tiles missing from the pool itself which were uncomfortable under my toes. Wifi not a problem here. Overall a very relaxing break with beautiful views over the bay esp the Weymouth lights at sunset.

Too little too late. should be knocked down and not rebulit, a very germanic feel, they maybe trying to reinvigorate the place BUT don't bother, time has taken what it wants and left the rest to fall to pieces, if anything should be closed and refurbed behind a huge wall then do a big reveal, Im sure the people living in the road opposite would be glad for the change of scenery, staff seem to put on a brave face as you walk in, main door is horrid all rusty and basically buggerd. good effort onthe bar area and restaurant but thats it, avoid this nasty eyesore.

Room Tip: anywhere other than here

Tried the Leisure facilities as a day member today. Broken and missing tiles around the pool area, steam room 'Out of Order', heating to pool not working, so was freezing. Dirty and unclean changing rooms and shower area, rotten timbers in Sauna. Missing part of suspended ceiling right above the swimming pool, concerns for swimmers at the stability of the rest of ceiling. In my opinion whole complex needs shutting for total refurbishment. Will not be returning.

Room Tip: Was not a hotel guest, a day member only for the leisure complex

Booked a sea facing room. Hotel is looking very tired, except the reception area. The receptionist was very pleasant, but our room was far from pleasant. The entrance door was like a door on a snickered shed, paint pealing all over. Windows were single pane Cristal, and literally had condensation running down them. Room was small, the front door opening into the bed and just enough room for two bedside cabinets. The bed itself looked like it had hosted a hippo fight. Bathroom had a small shower, sink and toilet. No room to get changed, this would have needed to be done in the bedroom in front of the crafty door and windows. The room was cold and smelt damp. The carpet felt like it was only a couple of millimetres thick and laid on concrete. We didn't even take our coats off, went back to reception and got a refund minus the booking fee. The room rate was £120 per night, so we expected a little better than a bedsit in this location.

We were not booked in for an evening meal but looking at the blackboard specials and decided to have the evening meal (27th October 2017). My wife had the steak pie and trimmings while I had the chicken pie and trimmings at £11.99 each. The meal was delivered and we soon found out that there was very little if any meat in the pies. We complained to the waiter who said he would tell the chef and offered a complimentary sweet each which we accepted, although for some reason we were not offered another pie? We estimated there was a tablespoon of gravy and less than half a level teaspoon of meat in each pie I anticipate the total cost of the contents of our plates was certainly less than £1.50.
On booking out of the hotel we also reported the lack of pie meat to the receptionist but I must say in our opinion neither the waiter nor the receptionist seemed to be surprised or genuinely sorry.
I have read some of the other Trip adviser comments and would generally agree with them. It could be an excellent hotel but still needs plenty of cash to restore it to its former glory.

Room Tip: Sea View is best but driving rain or wind could spoil the open corridor aspect.
