“Perfect in every way”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2010

We had a lovely weekend away in Weymouth. We stayed in Kelston House and it was perfect in every way. We were greeted outside and offered help with our luggage that was a perfect start to a perfect stay. Our room was lovely and the bed had a memory foam mattress, we found it very difficult to get out of it. The room was spotlessly clean as was the rest of the house not a speck of dust anywhere. The Breakfast was second to none lovely and as much tea and coffee and toast as you wanted, cereal, fruit juice and full english. Superb would definately stay again and woould recommend to anyone.

The Kelston Guest House is in an ideal location on a quiet street just off the seafront. The house has a warmth and friendliness and it's owner's (Karen & Martin) enthusiastically greeted us, assisted us and generally were there to help with any query that we had on our trip. The rooms are well appointed and the breakfast room, on the first floor, is big and bright and the service was prompt and excellent.
Just as an aside, I'd disagree with a previous comment and agree with the managements response. As a guest, I look forward to a clean room with it's clean amenities.

We found the couple running Kelston to be friendly but a stern note was left in the room regarding some small blackcurrant stains on the bedding threatening further charges. I was quite upset by its tone but apologised for this and some hair colour left on a towel when I saw the landlady. None of the marks were deliberate or extensive, just "normal" day to day stuff. The week after our stay I noted that a further £25.00 had been deducted from my debit card without any warning and/or consultation. I wouldn't have thought this is even legal. These minor laundry matters should be covered by the room cost. The whole business has left a very unpleasant feeling.

Thank you for your comments. I can assure you that the note left in your room was not rude, it was asking for consideration. You yourself apologised and said that it was hair dye. In our welcome pack it does state that we ask guest to take extra care with blackcurrant squash as it stains. Guest expect a decent standard of accommodation and the next guest after you does not want bedding with stains as you wouldn't. Unfortunately your hair dye did not come out of the towels and as you said if you have to charge me for this I understand, I was shocked to see your comments.

We didn't travel by car and were pleased to find this guest house so easily accessible by the X53 bus that goes along the coast (bus stop is one minute away) as well as the train station (five minutes' walk). We had a nice big en-suite room in a lovely quiet house. Karen and Martin were very helpful with their suggestions of places to visit, and on one of the days even took the trouble to find out for us how to get to Lulworth Cove, from where you can see sights such as the Durdle Door and see the beautiful cliffs along the coast. The guest house is a very short walk away from the beach and there are many good places to eat - as recommended in the file that was in our room with suggestions of things to do. There are also many leaflets available. The location was very ideal - you can visit the places mentioned above, take the open-top bus to Portland, walk to Bowleaze Cove, or if you prefer, just relax on the beach. The food was lovely too. There was a great choice from cereals, toast, fruit juice and delicious (particularly the sausages) full English breakfast. There were some surprising touches, such as a mini-fridge in the room! There was also the bonus of a parking permit and WIFI, even though we didn't need to use them. All in all it was a lovely guesthouse and we would stay there again if ever in the area. We do not normally take the time to review the places we stay at on our trips but had such a nice stay that on this occasion we will make an exception.

We were warmly welcomed and taken to our room, it was clean and well laid out, not a huge amount of space but contained everything we needed. The use of a mini fridge was a nice touch. The breakfast and service were fantastic. We would throughly recommend this b&b, and the bonus of the parking permit was like the icing on the cake.

We stayed in this Guest House for 4 nights and will be returning next year for a week.

While I have a bit of a love affair with Weymouth, I am not shy to give an honest opinion given my broad travel experience.

The guest House is a grade 2 listed Victorian terrace house which has been converted to a B&B. Nearly all the terraced houses here have been converted to a B&B and as such its a very nice and quiet area to stay. You are about half a mile away from the town centre and just under a mile to the harbour and Pavillion. You are less than a 100 yards form the shingle part of the Weymouth beach but about 1/4 mile away from the beginning of the sandy area. Lennox Street is half way between the harbour and Lodmour Country Park (where the Sealife Park is situated).

On arrival we were happily greated by the owners, shown arround and given our room key. The bedroom was En-Suite although was quite small. this is to be expected given the building so if your into ybig open rooms then you will be disapointed. The room was very comfortable with a shower, sink, toilet, tea and coffee making facilities and a digital TV/DVD combo.

Breakfast was excellent and made mostly from local produce. You could choose from a full english, vegi and healthy options as well as cerials, fruit juice and toast. The full english and vego options are highly recommended.

Overall, a highly recommended place to stay with very friendly owners. We will return!

One place I would definitely visit again. Perfect location, wonderful owners and great service.

Location
This place is tucked away on a nice little side road perpendicular to the beach front. From leaving the front door, a quick run and you could be the water swimming to France in under 120 seconds. As close to the sea as that. All places a tourist would want to visit are all in walking distance, no, make that hopping distance because the location is perfect.

Room
The room was spotless. I lay on the bed and instantly my nostrils were pleasantly greeted by the fresh smell of fabric conditioner. (Something I had never experienced in a hotel before!) I didn’t want to get up! There is a TV, towels, and all the other little pleasantries you would expect in a decent hotel/B&B. HOWEVER, one thing that some may find a put off is the toilets and bathroom. There is no en suite bathroom in the room. To have a shower or bath, (or even a poo) you would have to make your way to the middle floor...

Bathroom
The one bathroom is situated on the middle floor of the building. Depending on what room you are in, it may be quicker for you to run the beach and wash there. (see first paragraph) The bathroom is well kept and fresh though. Shower and bath are available for use – but I couldn’t help feeling rushed in fear of one of the other guests needing to use the facilities.

Pros:-
Complimentary breakfast was very filling and satisfying! Hmmmm!
Comfortable, clean place with wonderful hosts.

Cons:-
Rooms have single glased windows. At certain times the noise from outside could be heard. Good thing Im not too much of a light sleeper.

Bathroom was a little far away. Not convenient if you wake up in the middle of the night with a strong urge to pee... I did wonder how many people had peed in the bedroom sink I used to wash my face :-/
