Stayed at hotel 26th-30th april in single room on 3rd floor.on the down side, room uncomfortably hot although radiator wasnt on,cobwebs on top of window which were dirty curtains torn ,catch broken.old fashioned 70s furniture&carpets&bedding.in needof complete re-furb.lifts slow & not adequete for size of hotel.cleaners knocking door far to early 9am on just getting back from breakfast. On the plus side, staff helpful& friendly, food was lovely, hot & presented well.entertainment good, liked the idea of the quiet room by the lounge.downstairs decor was much better than bedrooms.if asked whether i would stay at this hotel again regretably would have to say no

I booked a weekend break at this hotel through Martynleisure I phoned the Russell hotel a week prior to going to enquire about Disabled Parking I was told to be there by 11am to ensure a space. I arrived there and found the parking space But to get into the hotel there is a high step from car park and then a steep flight of stairs to reach reception I asked a member of staff if there was a lift and was told I would have to walk around the block to front of hotel . So after dragging luggage around the fron we were confronted with another flight of steps which we had to drag luggage up. At the reception we were greeted by a rather rude woman who told us we were too early and wold not be able to book in until 2.30pm. I asked where we could wait and was told to go to hotel next door and get some food and wait in there, It was explained we were told to come early etc and were then told to take our luggage downstairs to the bar area and wait down there. In the bar area we had to move around so that cleaners could hoover floor We asked if there was any coffee and told not til bar opens . I was so disgusted that I contacted Premierinn and they fittedd us in with every assistance we could wish for. I have contacted MARTYNS twice and they never answer . Incidently they make you pay on booking so there are NO refunds

this is the third time my husband and I have stayed at this hotel with a coach tour.we had to cut our first visit short due to an emergency at home and the staff worked hard to find the cheapest and quickest way to get home and arranged it all and we were on our way within two and a half hours. The last two visits have been a lot more successful! we like this hotel but is not without its niggles.First the good bits nice friendly staff meals quite adequate always more food on offer especially at breakfast and this was often offered before being asked for.Rooms are of adequate size clean and tidy but the shower was a joke poor water flow reported it and it was"fixed"fairly quickly but the problem was worse after!creaky floorboards were annoying at times.bar staff were always efficient and friendly dinning room staff were excellent.entertainment was just about passable but the staff did a good job of holding the fort when the booked act failed to turn up.good location just a short walk to town and opposite the sea.weell done Russell Hotel!

We stayed at the hotel over the valentine weekend, although the weather was very cold the hotel was always warm and welcoming.
The food was excellent as was the service in the restaurant. The entertainment was good and the staff were always friendly and attentive.
If we had taken previous reviews into account we may not have chosen this hotel we're so glad we didn't.

Having read the reviews about this hotel just before I was going there with a group I was not very excited and had a very low expectation. WRONG!! We were welcomed and given our room keys in a very friendly manner. The rooms were very clean, dated but had all we needed. On the first morning a member of staff, dressed as Father Christmas (it was a Turkey & Tinsel weekend), went to every person to find out if their rooms were ok and if there was anything at all they needed. The food was very good, always piping hot and plenty of it. The staff were really friendly and amazingly fast to help. The entertainment was very good. I have to admit that the "Bingo" comments were accurate - only a very brave man (or woman) utters a sound - let alone a gigle - when the Bingo is in progress! The only criticism iI have of the hotel is the ballroom/ social area - way too small for the number of guests which made it almost impossible to get a seat. The sister hotel, which you walked down a corridor to reach, had an enormous ballroom which would have catered for everyone easily but was in darkness, cold and empty!! It is only 2 star hotel but the staff offer so much more.

Just came back from a turkey & tinsel weekend so glad i didn't listen to all the bad reports about this hotel because i thought it woz lovely ok so the rooms are a bit dated but they are clean and tidy and you couldn't fault the food or service they provide in my opinion if u want five star luxury then pay for it and so wot if it caters for the old folk at least they know how to have a good laugh without a punch up at the end of the night .So to round it all up we enjoyed it so much we are all booked up for next year can't wait !!!!
