Owner description: This 19th century Fort includes a museum highlighting coastal defence. Built by the Victorians to protect Portland Harbour, Nothe Fort is one of the best preserved forts of its kind. The advances in technology that affected the fort are explained through many displays, exhibits and audio visual facilities located on the ramparts, gun decks and maze of underground passageways. Enjoy the stunning and far reaching views of the Jurassic Coast from the picnic areas on the Ramparts. These will provide one of the best vantage points on the south coast.
Useful Information: Food available for purchase, Activities for young children, Stairs / elevator, Wheelchair access

good artifacts pity about the price though, right in Weymouth so no need for carparking, voluteers very good, pity they changed this in to a place where you have to pay to go in as I used to for years wander around in side as lived not far from Weymouth.

lots to see & do. Historical and fun. All weather attraction suitable for all ages and abilities. Enthusiastic staff. Food is good and good value with children's 'evacuee packs' packed lunches so do eat in their canteen.

Total freedom for the children to run around on the parade ground and play.

If you go over from Weymouth, go to the harbour next to the Pavilion and get on the little rowing boat across the harbour. It's only 50p and cuts out a lot of walking. Not wheelchair or buggy friendly but it certainly adds fun to the trip - everyone we take over on it loves it. It drops you off at the bottom of Nothe steps so you can then take a short walk up the steps to the fort.

We have visited the Nothe Fort many many times over the past 30 years taking our children and now our grandchildren, They all love going , There is so much to see and the kids love to do the mouse hunt, So much information is given about all the exhibits and the kids can run around outside, The little cafe does great homemade cakes and a " Ration bag " lunch for the kids in a brown paper bag, this is a great idea for kids to see what life was like in war times. Entrance fee is very small compared to museums and such and you will enjoy your visit immensely.
